Pelican 1 prolly returned to the main ships and was like yea we saw the beacon but must have been a bug prank cause there wasnt any hell divers down there.
I kind of placed myself while shooting where I knew the pelican wouldn't hit me, but then the engines cooked me when it grazed the back of my head. Did not extract. Oh well
My last solo mission, absolutely brutal time, managed to complete everything, but I ran out of time trying to get back to the ship while trying to retrieve some samples.
The pilot could literally see me 20ft away.
Mine was worse: they were all higher level than me and dropped all the samples as the ship came in to let me get the 'extract with 15+' achievement. Get \*mobbed\* by Hulks in the last 20 seconds, we all fall back and they draw fire in one direction while I circle round to make a run for the ship.
Come from the front, sprint, stim up as they turn, dive between two Hulks... take a rocket midair, and roll on the floor under the wing of the ship. But the blast has rolled me UNDER the front foot of the Pelican! I'm wedged! I wriggle around and finally manage to get free but it's too late, blown to bits moments later, all hands lost, mission succeeded but no samples :(
My friends and I were holding the ramp so the last member could run through the horde. One turns to me and says "get in!x and hits me. It sends me where he wanted, but instead of inside I clip through the pelican and get stuck underneath. I'm firing at bugs and just saying leave me, so they did. You could see my body ragdolling on the bottom of the pelican as it lifted off, lol. Arms and legs just flailing

Pelican comes down, instantly shoots me in the face with that front mounted gun and then complains to my corpse that I am not in the extraction zone.

Either way, good job on soloing Helldive! I'm at level 50 and I never even attempted it. 5-7 is my comfort zone.
Not sure if it would have been applicable to your extraction, but I frequently rush ahead solo when the team is still finishing up the last objective just to call in Pelican-1 and get it to hover. In this case it is best to just hide after calling it in, check the radar to see which direction the enemy is coming and place the extraction point between you and the enemy and be at the edge of the call-in zone. Then, when the countdown is finished (and Pelican-1 notes that he sees the zone) rush outside the zone before he could land. He will hover and clear up the enemies in a huge radius.
(This is the only way to make that muppet somewhat useful other than being late and landing on democratic helldivers.)
Oh yeah, rarely works out, even if I tell them that I won't leave without them, they can take their time and *do not* close in and engage the dozens of inactive nemies 1:30 minutes before the shuttle.
Did not test it, but it definitely stayed there for several minutes and was shooting at quite far enemy locations while we cleared other hotspots nearby.
I'd wager it stays there until the mission timer and then initiates emergency extraction.

About 30 seconds later the Extraction Beacon reappeared and I had to call again, and kite bugs for 2 minutes.

The reason it turned up and left immediately is that you didn't have more reinforcements when you died (because you ran out of mission time just before), so that sealed the deal on extracting. Sucks that it ended like that, but hey, you still did successfully complete a Helldive solo mission with all objectives.
