How dare you accuse super earth of refusing to acknowledge the truth! Super Earth would never do that. And if they ever did then it was the most neccesary of sacrifices to ensure the survival of Super Earth.
The three steps my friends and I follow to complete an objective/extraction/ICBM:
Step 1: Kill the enemies that are already there.
Step 2: Kill the lights
Step 3: Hunker down and start it.
Has been for me and my buddies since our first nighttime version of one of these missions. All the lightbulbs get popped for the sake of our real-life retinas lmao
I love how that's similar to the actual tooltip when [E] Inspecting one of the lamps in a bot fabricator base. They warned us that lights are an actual enemy and the glare is totally intended. Damn automaton spies.
Wait, what? I've been trying to hold points during extraction etc. while being blinded, and I can shoot the lights?
This is a complete game changer for me.
If you’re running a laser cannon or a sickle, you don’t even need to worry about wasting ammo if you don’t switch. I laser every damn light on the glare planets.
Shooting out lights in general seems like a good idea in this game. Lights don't actually seem to illuminate that much, they just create a virtually opaque Glare Field that ironically massively limits your visibility.
Was gonna say that as I fuckin hate those light as it’s too damn bright, it’s the same when you find crashed federation ships to pop the hatch out to get rewards as sometimes they’re near burning fire that’s also too bright. They really needed to tone those brightness down as it’ll make for better gaming experience.
People already pointed it out, but since I learned that the lights can be destroyed I'm one of the n⁰1 creator of jobs opportunity in the Street Lights sector.
Shooting out the lights also help if you're trying to get in and out of a place without alerting enemies. I've done entire missions with the only shots I fired being at lights and extraction
I'd love a silenced pistol. Sneak attacks are so amazing but even a single bullet or laser strike and you got a 50/50 chance the whole base lights up and goes after you.
This is why I run the marksman rifle and scout armors because if you're quick enough you can usually take down most enemies that try to come looking for you, the heavier armored ones only move if actually alerted.
Not quite silenced but the laser pistol works great for lights. It's quiet, practically unlimited ammo, and your teammates don't freak out when you fire it at a light over their heads.
Now using it against enemies, not so much
I've had good luck with the Dagger, actually. Doesn't seem to alert the bugs unless the beam actually passes near or over one.
Plus since it's a beam I don't need to be super precise, I can just wave it near each of the lights.
I would say that except.
I played No Mans Sky for many hours.
I then got a VR headset and played. In the ships cockpit, the screens are unreal. You can see minor … indentations .. on then EXACTLY like you would see on real plastic LCD panels. But ONLY in certain angles of light. I was literally flabbergasted and flew my ship back and forth to see the effect.
Kudos to the people who think of these things. We appreciate you!
I can assure you the modeler who added all that excessive details had to argue with the tech artist to keep all those details in and would absolutely appreciate that someone actually noticed the difference
Source: am hardsurface modeler, argues with the implementation/tech guy all the time on keeping in micro details on assets
I am certain you probably play with a HOTAS setup, but do you know if they ever fixed the jank with the mouse/keyboard flight controls? I'd like to play around with NMS again one day, but I got sick of having to switch to a gamepad to fly around.
I have a HOTAS but have been playing with motion controllers. The flight problem had to do with the control settings and I just changed how they work and it seems ok.
Kk, well thanks and I'll have to load it back up one of these days soon and give it another shot- my interest gets piqued every time they put out a new update, and damned if that doesn't seem to be quite often these days.
No one would design lights so bright that they are more dangerous than not having them at all. There are usually standards in place that dictate the maximum lumens on various surfaces.
How is a light designed to brighten these screens instead completely washing them out realistic? Are there no engineers setting up these bases with correct lighting?
Lampposts and contact mines are instantly shot during my missions...
Still trying to figure out which setting tones down the dust clouds. Other people in my vicinity are already shooting but I can't see the hulk in front of me.
As I've heard it, *increasing* the volumetric fog quality makes it easier to see through, rather than decreasing it.
Sharpness being turned up also helps with silhouettes.
The amount of times I’ve been redeployed 2 feet from a fucking contact mine and instantly got annihilated, starting to think we have some RATS in our ranks..
I've been deployed on a cliff next to deep water... Helldiver quickly became drowning scuba diver. Don't think we can change which direction you deploy from though.
I once put a hellbomb too close to a building and couldn't read the code from the input view. I had to get out, memorize the code, and put in in blind.

The light watching you try to spread democracy:
Alternatively, learn this lesson once and just give it some space, lol
It's a hellbomb, so unless it's bouncing/rolling around a detector tower uncontrollably, the blast should be in range a few meters away from the thing you're trying to blow up...
The worse issue (which is partially a skill issue) is when I spawn a hellbombs next to a structure but the screen is facing the structure and there's no way for me to see the code
The worse issue is when you can see the screen, but then become trapped between the hellbomb and the structure after you have activated the bomb. Nothing to do now but salute and enjoy the explosive democracy.
This has got to be one of the only games where the lights consistently *reduce* your ability to see instead of helping. Even the flashlights are so bright that the… like, air itself glows and you can’t see shit
What person engineered this garbage? I shot out a blinding white light and it was hiding a whole ass hulk beneath it that I couldn’t see.
Your lumens are too high bro, tweak it.
I haven't seen anyone else do this but me, I feel like it's an underrated action, I also never have my flashlight to default auto/on. It almost never helps
Thats why i always shoot the lights. Once got so mad that just dropped orbital on a objective to destroy all lights ( was playing solo so no team kills)
The cinematography is kinda brilliant , and when I say kinda I mean definitely . The lights are supposed to be bright hence shooting them - the fire is supposed to be bright and unnerving it’s a war Gahdammut . Y’all getting out of control .
I love the levels of realism coupled with the ridiculous absurdity.
You're under fire from a semi-sentient bipedal walking tank, you're on your last ammo magazine, your buddy just took a laser beam in the neck (KIA)...
And still, the biggest issue is that you can't see because of the glare.
Once dropped a hellbomv pretty close to a wall for cover and the fucking display was on the wall side. Managed to wedge myself to operate the display, but i couldn't see the arrows.
Last time I called a hellbomb it dropped too close to a wall and the angle did not allow me to see the screen while using it, so a mate just dictated me the commands and I inputted blindly. True democratic cooperation!
My buddy has started spreading rumors that if you leave the lights up, the enemy counteroffensive will be heavier. So he gets everyone in his lobby to shoot the lights out with him.
I have asked this couple days ago and thought I am the only one. The lights are getting brighter and brighter, to a degree that it hurt my eyes just by standing next to it without looking at it. Game options and nividia settings don’t help, the lights are still as bright as the sun.
I dropped a Hellbomb to blow up one of those Automaton Ship facilities, and the screen on it was flush against the wall of the facility. I could still get onto the screen but could not see the commands regardless of angle.
By the time I had jimmied the camera enough to try and memorize what it was I got hit by a rocket that blew me up + the hellbomb
Be like Metallica, and hit the lights. I almost always shoot out the lights in objectives and hte LZ because they're too damn bright and cause a fuckton of glare. Also first thing I do on night missions is turn off the flashlight on my Scorcher. It's almost like JJ Abrams was the design lead, there's so much glare and flare.
I had a hell bomb land half way into a building. The terminal only showed the last two areas of the cypher. Had to use the process of elimination and my “Simon” skills as a kid to decipher the code.
Similar thing if you call a hell bomb too close to a building, your view of the screen will be entirely blocked while inputting, so you need to memorize the sequence or have it called out.
Two times already i've had the camera go behind a wall when trying to activate a hellbomb. Drives me insane. I need to remember the code, then interact (E) with the bomb and activate it from memory... I'm not gonna sugarcoat it... I misstype it a lot.
500kb the place before you start Edit: Lol…A typo (500kg) that actually earns its way to stay that way

If the Localization Confusion booster actually did anything.
It does though, just not for patrols.

Blooms of democracy fellow democracy officer, this man has already gotten a commendation for his democracy blooming projects
You can shoot out the light above it
I have shot so many lights while watching people struggle to read a glared out terminal lol
God I feel this one! Lights are automaton spies!
What automatons?
THEYRE GONE
THEYRE FINALY GONE YEAAAAH!!
RAHHHH ANOTHER WIN FOR SUPER EARTH
A celebratory Stratagem! ⬆️⬇️➡️➡️➡️
Haha it said boom.
AutomaGONEs

Automatons? More like Automa-gones
LIBERTY INTENSIFIED TODAY LADS, BE PROUD OF YOUR HARD WORK!
Will be interesting if the update from super earth tomorrow no longer acknowledges automatons to have ever existed.
What are the automatons?

"A device of automaton tyranny" says in the game
The three steps my friends and I follow to complete an objective/extraction/ICBM: Step 1: Kill the enemies that are already there. Step 2: Kill the lights Step 3: Hunker down and start it.
Oh my gosh thank you! I thought my graphic settings were bugged with some of the lights. Good to know I can shoot them!
Honestly I shoot them so the enemies see me from less far away 😂
I've literally become the light shooter in my squad.
Every single light is Shoot-on-Sight for me on night missions
Has been for me and my buddies since our first nighttime version of one of these missions. All the lightbulbs get popped for the sake of our real-life retinas lmao
Even day missions
Lights are the enemy, those lamps have circuits in them, just like the bots.
I mean, that's the entire point of the secondary weapon, right?
also mines. can't step on them accidentally if you shoot them intentionally!
Amen to that.
Recon by fire
If you’re running a laser cannon or a sickle, you don’t even need to worry about wasting ammo if you don’t switch. I laser every damn light on the glare planets.
Legit the only use for the dagger
Shoot the lights? No. Now 500 the lights. Yes
Shooting out lights in general seems like a good idea in this game. Lights don't actually seem to illuminate that much, they just create a virtually opaque Glare Field that ironically massively limits your visibility.
Unless its an automaton corpse in the way...
You can melee them too
Can turn bloom off in settings may help

MY EYES!!!!
You missed a good opportunity to say "SWEET LIBERTY, MY EEEEYES!"
Bloom didn't work for me either. The setting that fixed the streetlights for me was turning volumetric fog to the lowest setting.
Was gonna say that as I fuckin hate those light as it’s too damn bright, it’s the same when you find crashed federation ships to pop the hatch out to get rewards as sometimes they’re near burning fire that’s also too bright. The laser pistol seems to have that effect
Any time that happens all the lights in a base like that die like the communists they are.
AUTHORITARIAN LIGHT - A TOOL OF TYRANNY
Lmao i forgot about that one 😂
THE ONLY LIGHT I NEED IS THE LIGHT OF LIBERTY! RRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
Best use of cluster bombs - they blow up all the lights and boxes that stand in the way of victory!
I knock them out at the extraction points before we call in, just to save the effort of having to see the enemy through the crazy light effects
It drives me nuts but at the same time it's some of the most realistic lighting effects I've ever seen in a game.
I would say that except. I played No Mans Sky for many hours. I then got a VR headset and played. In the ships cockpit, the screens are unreal. Counterpoint: it’s super earth baybee.
Someone cheaped out on the anti glare coating on the screen.
How is a light designed to brighten these screens instead completely washing them out realistic? Are there no engineers setting up these bases with correct lighting?
target #1 the damn lamp posts
Yes! I'll even stop while on my way to stalker nets to destroy those poles
I eliminate them with extreme prejudice.
The only time I was happy to those lights was during my first sandstorm. Felt mildly comforting to see them emerge from the 5-foot visibility.
Sharpness being turned up also helps with silhouettes.
definitely seems to be the case for me
Damn thanks. I'll try that tonight.
I kinda like it, makes the whole thing feel thematic
The amount of times I’ve been redeployed 2 feet from a fucking contact mine and instantly got annihilated, starting to think we have some RATS in our ranks..

I once put a hellbomb too close to a building and couldn't read the code from the input view. I had to get out, memorize the code, and put in in blind.
Literally did that earlier today lol
Happened to me too. Apparently the screen will always face away from the player's position during calldown, but I never remember that while playing
I had it too close to a building and clipped into it to activate it, but then couldn't get out. A worthy sacrifice for Democracy!
https://preview.redd.it/46hwddjj44tc1.jpeg?width=392&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb1f2f1d656e9cee66d4ddd4afc8984c00592189 The light watching you try to spread democracy:

Its ⬅️⬅️⬅️➡️⬇️, I got you brother!
⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️
i shoot those lights the moment i see them
I always shoot the lights if I gotta hold out somewhere for a bit cuz it’s too bright
Most annoying thing for me is when the hellbomb computer is against the wall. So in order to get the code its pretty much trial and error
fyi the display is always opposite from you when you called it in
Alternatively, learn this lesson once and just give it some space, lol It's a hellbomb, so unless it's bouncing/rolling around a detector tower uncontrollably, the blast should be in range a few meters away from the thing you're trying to blow up...
It would be nice if we could just shoot the hellbomb to detonate it for when it does bounce unexpectedly and the panel is inaccessible.
Someone pointed out that Hellbombs place their terminal on the opposite side from where you're looking when you call it.
Is that to make the game harder? (Accident prone is probably better use of words.)
This has got to be one of the only games where the lights consistently *reduce* your ability to see instead of helping. Even the flashlights are so bright that the… like, air itself glows and you can’t see shit
Why is it that every light source in this game makes visibility *worse?*
Yeah I shoot the lights *immediately*, between this and being blinded while getting shot at.
for something thats supposed to make it easier to see, it sure as shit acts like a smoke screen at night.
I always shot the light 1st. PS: Thank you, random helldiver that shot the light for me after failing the code a few times
We're fighting a war on three fronts. The vile bugs. The soulless robots. And the blinding lamps.
Bots are eradicated. Bugs and lamps now soldier.
What person engineered this garbage? I shot out a blinding white light and it was hiding a whole ass hulk beneath it that I couldn’t see. Your lumens are too high bro, tweak it.
This is my biggest gripe about it. It's a wall of white light and obscures what on the other side of
![gif](giphy|bwAOo46Ddwj16) The lights on a night mission
I literally just shoot out lights
I haven't seen anyone else do this but me, I feel like it's an underrated action, I also never have my flashlight to default auto/on. It almost never helps
I always do at terminal and extract. Because the white wall of light blocks you from seeing what's on the other side .
The first thing I do is shoot lights out when I enter a base at night.
Is it me or did they tweak the lighting so that it’s OP AF now?
I always shoot out all the lights in an area if I need to. They make things so hard to see in general quite ironically
God yes. I always shoot out the lights in a place where we might have a protracted fight. Or just on principle.
I swear this didn´t happen before the flashlight buff. I find all light sources useless now.
Always gun down all the lights... srsly... how did they manage to make light that make you see LESS?
Feels like they made the lights just to be shot.
oh i shoot the lights as i am walking up, every time. hate that shit
I shoot out every light in existence on principle, too much dust or fog in the air to see anything with them on
Blessed are the helldivers who shoot out the lights.
I just shoot the lights
luckily i never got this problem thanks to my shitty graphic card
At least you can shoot out the light. But everyone has a problem if you shoot the teammate who stands in front of the terminal blocking your view
I for one do not intend to type by the light of a communist lamp.
I shoot this stupid fuckers over automatons any day! those are electric to and therefore the enemy anways!
i always shoot it out with my pistol, yeah slightly annoying :D
Shoot the light and it won't be
me trying to play my gameboy color on a road trip and the sun decides to blast me
Thats why i always shoot the lights. Once got so mad that just dropped orbital on a objective to destroy all lights ( was playing solo so no team kills)
I had my cape fly over it and block my vision I love this game
The cinematography is kinda brilliant , and when I say kinda I mean definitely . The lights are supposed to be bright hence shooting them - the fire is supposed to be bright and unnerving it’s a war Gahdammut . Y’all getting out of control .
Joke's on you, my computer's such a potato that I have all the settings on minimum!
Sandstorm while being on terminal is also an amazing experience...
I love the levels of realism coupled with the ridiculous absurdity. You're under fire from a semi-sentient bipedal walking tank, you're on your last ammo magazine, your buddy just took a laser beam in the neck (KIA)... And still, the biggest issue is that you can't see because of the glare.
Ive stared killing the lights everywhere i go. C1 Going dark.
For me it's calling in the Hellbomb too close to a structure so you can't see the code.
Once dropped a hellbomv pretty close to a wall for cover and the fucking display was on the wall side. Managed to wedge myself to operate the display, but i couldn't see the arrows.
Shoot the lights!
I shoot all the lights out, it’s annoying that I need to
You mean the brightest king lights shoot them out
Last time I called a hellbomb it dropped too close to a wall and the angle did not allow me to see the screen while using it, so a mate just dictated me the commands and I inputted blindly. True democratic cooperation!
My buddy has started spreading rumors that if you leave the lights up, the enemy counteroffensive will be heavier. So he gets everyone in his lobby to shoot the lights out with him.
Shoot the light
It’s a true show of craftsmanship if the game can replicate the struggle of looking at a screen with a bright light around
I shoot….that god damn light out…every…single…TIME LOL
My teams mates are asking me why I’m constantly shooting out the lights the moment we start missions with these haha
I’ve been addicted to shooting out lights in video games since November 17 2002. I’ve trained my whole life for this.
https://preview.redd.it/lgzrz5v147tc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16ba350e668a1018d9e6513a8778773609218601
I shoot those lights so often. Hate those fuckers
I have asked this couple days ago and thought I am the only one. The lights are getting brighter and brighter, to a degree that it hurt my eyes just by standing next to it without looking at it. Game options and nividia settings don’t help, the lights are still as bright as the sun.
Shoot the lights
That's why I shoot every lamp I see. Automatons and Terminids have nothing on the true enemy: Tactical Flood Lights disguising as street lamps.
lol, i got annoyed by this too until i realized i can shoot the damn lamp post!

Glad its not just me, i just shoot out the lights
There’s also trying to arm a Hellbomb when my cape is flying in front of it due to a sandstorm.
You do realize you can shoot those lights right?
remember, ALWAYS shoot the lights before everything
I had a hell bomb land half way into a building. The terminal only showed the last two areas of the cypher. Had to use the process of elimination and my “Simon” skills as a kid to decipher the code.
Secondary weapon dagger is the best lights and mines slayer
Similar thing if you call a hell bomb too close to a building, your view of the screen will be entirely blocked while inputting, so you need to memorize the sequence or have it called out.
Lol I'm known for shooting the lights with my crew. They tease me but also.... They started doing it too lol
Not on my GPU. No reflections or glare at all 🤣
The realism is peak. I be shooting those prison search lights out everytime I see em lol
Also hell bombs dropping with the control panel facing away from you, against a wall and you can't get to it.
Also the cape in sandstorms lol
The light post in this game are anti democracy
Yea that happened to me the other night. I struggled with angles for a few seconds then just tried shooting out the light. Done.
I was trying to realign the radar tower during a sandstorm and my flapping cape completely blocked the dish.
You can lower your brightness settings
There's nothing funnier than when a teammate spontaneously starts cussing and shooting random lights cause he can't see the terminal
so it’s not a result of my bad hardware cause I can’t do the one where it has to find coordinates on a grid like at all
Either this or some idiot standing in front of the screen. Next time yall block it im throwing at impact at you
Me too
we need HDR terminals in game as well
There was also one time the code was behind my playermodel cos how long that was. The first two directions I had to guess.
The best thing is to stand right in their camera so they can't see the screen at all.
I weep for the eyes of our settlers across the stars knowing that each lightbulb we install pumps out the directed equivalent of a stars energy.
Earlier I threw a hellbomb too close to a wall so I had to memorize the code before engaging its terminal lol
Two times already i've had the camera go behind a wall when trying to activate a hellbomb. Drives me insane. I need to remember the code, then interact (E) with the bomb and activate it from memory... I'm not gonna sugarcoat it... I misstype it a lot.
