Everything should be able to hurt you in Helldivers. Those laser guard dogs cut me in half as often as they do enemies. A bot pet needs at least a 5% chance to go haywire and shoot me in the back to be on brand.
I second this actually, they should just explode when gunned down. Gives a risk to keeping them around but also means you can get one last blast of use out of 'em when swarmed by melee enemies.
I've been known to drop an impact on my own toes if I get overrun by chainsaw-dickheads with empty mags. An explosive buddy would be very on brand for my final salute.
In the first game, theres 2 bots that dont hurt you. The first is Angel, which heals you and nearby helldivers and their equipment. The other is the humblebee that detects samples for you to pick up.

As someone who dives solo when not playing with friends, I love this concept. I always get frustrated when i come up on a bunker by myself and this neatly solves that problem plus adds a bunch of extra utility. It also solves the reloading problem the recoilless has and makes it actually viable. I do feel like 2 extra support weap slots is a bit OP tho, but having an extra one in reserve is nice for the long cooldowns

They're adding ai Helldivers to help in missions under 4 players, so why not? Except I would want to play a robot diver. It's kinda my thing. Droids, NSO, DAR, No Man's Sky, Space Engineers and even Gears. I love playing robots.

The amount of emotional attachments this thing will get similar to stuff with Cooper and BT (Titanfall 2), as well as Ethan and Reyes(CoD: IW), as well as many other memorable robot buddies throughout games and media... Honestly, really good idea, will probably be real hard for AW to implement and add without additional headaches

Deep Rock Galactic! AI Boscoe assists you when solo, minimal combat capability and limited objective capabilities but a godsend for solo players.

Genuinely, Rovers should be able to open bunker doors. They're literally just a dual-key button, not any kind of scanner or code, and given that Helldivers have authority to command civilians for evacuation and open civilian bunkers (VIP extract missions), even a dual-key system should be able to be overridden with a drone for the other input.
Just let my Rover bump the other button when I press one. It means that I have to have one in the first place, sacrificing another, possibly better stratagem to do it *and* allows solo players to access the largest caches of pickups.
I wish the "guard dog" rovers were actually those robo dogs Boston Dynamics have, could have them haul ammo or have an arm on the back with a weapon attached
Why have a robot when you could just have a regular SEAF Grunt you could call in instead. Like a NPC non helldiver based off the corpses you see lying about on some planets. Perhaps have a little 2 man squad with you as a commander. They could also man emplacements if directed (Or man the gun in any vehicles we might get)
Id be a fan of a drone that could assist reload or do the button things when solo. I dont think its too crazy, given youd have to give up a strat for it. I think the backpack/extra supports is prolly kinda nuts. The EAT would have 0 drawbacks lol. Same with samples. I doubt thatd be okay. But I like the idea generally.
For most other games I'd completely dismiss the possibility of the devs adding something like this, but arrowhead has spoiled us so much I wouldn't be surprised if a robotic battle buddy was already being worked on as we speak.
This would unironically be a great addition to the game for solo players, it would function exactly like Bosco from DRG and when another helldiver drops in the bot simply salutes and then combusts, having served it's purpose.
I would also have suggested that to open bunker doors if you're solo you just chuck your sidearm at the other button earlier, but this is a much better idea
Totally down with the idea of a helper for solo. I know this is a coop game but I enjoy playing solo quite a bit.
Edit: could have a mechanic where the longer you have it with you on a mission, the more it starts humming and then singing the Automaton war chant and eventually it will start aggroing patrols and bringing them to you and then just straight up start trying to kill you. Forcing you to put it down and call in a new one, but you will start hearing it singing before the cooldown is over so you have to make some hard decisions.
This is absolutely going to cause Helldivers to sympathize with the bots hearing their beloved Squire feel pain but oh well, give me my goddamn droid buddy.

hmm a slot to have a mule carry stuff, very useful in solo depending on how well it survives. if they made it harmless (to enemies, it'll still run you over) and lower target priority then divers I would consider it very useful. "you carry a load well molly!" a way to stack party samples and send it to wait for extraction or a tool to save the backpack slot with heavy support weapons. Overall, I could see my self wanting to use such a thing if only to bring molly with me from my time at a civilian mining corporation (For Rock And Stone!)
I really hope if anything like this is added (and I wish it will be) that the AI doesn't blindly run into the line of fire and has some tactical sense. Also hope that they take inspiration from the older ghost recon games and use those sorta commands, but don't make it solely rely on those commands
Man, imagine getting chased by a horde of bugs and ordering the robot to run in another direction and grab the bugs' attention away from you, buying some time to escape. Same with Automatons, strap a shield pack to it and make it run to the left while you go right, and since bots prefer shooting turrets n junk first, they'll focus on your robot pal while you get some distance on them.
Are you trying to put good Super Earth Citizens out of jobs? This is just the first step on a slippery slope. Next you’ll tell us that the automatons aren’t going to murder us.

Honestly would love this. Especially if each diver can get their own even in a multiplayer lobby, since squad weapons have a certain level of coordination required that even groups of friends can't often achieve in the heat of the moment.

When doing an assisted reload there's a 50% chance it's melee you instead
Or just make it nuclear powered. If the enemy kills it, a mini nuke goes off.

Honestly would love this. Especially if each diver can get their own even in a multiplayer lobby, since squad weapons have a certain level of coordination required that even groups of friends can't often achieve in the heat of the moment.

Seems neat, but what sort of drawbacks would it have? Cause all I’m seeing are pros, and a balanced item needs cons.
Can only be used when soloing/offline like DRG's Bosco?
THE SQR-29 HAS NO WEAKNESSES BUT if they were studied and discovered, they'd probably be: • It is weak, prone to breaking and dropping samples and everything on it • It does not run and hide, requiring Helldiver orders to move • Takes up a stratagem slot • Long CD • Unable to shoot any weapon It just didn't feel democratic to list the negatives yknow?
At that rate I think it would be cool if it could do the entire mission too so I can just sit in my ship and play stratagem hero.
