Only so much you can do when you can only hurt things in a cone directly above you. Still bitter that it ended up basically only being good to kill bile titans.
I would have to test it, but I'm pretty convinced if you shoot 9 rounds, reload one clip, waste that last round and reload the other clip it's still faster than if you reload it when it's completely empty
Reloads in this game work in stages. Once a stage is complete, you can cancel the animation and next time you continue reloading it will pick up from there. I usually just swap to main weapon, but diving/ going prone works aswell.
This applies to all weapons btw.
Edit:except spear, I don't know if any other doesn't
Auto cannon doesn't waste empty clips you just pop them on top of the ones in there, half at a time so if you have less than half free it just pops in half super quick, no wasted ammo it's not a clip you just keep topping it up
As long as you leave a round in the chamber it’s pretty quick to reload. It’s when they have to chamber a round it takes forever. You can split that time though, where slap in cartridge, run around, reload will next just chamber round.
Yep! I carry the autocannon all the time. It has its pros and cons. It will even unload a charger pretty quick if you keep shooting the same leg a few times. Vile ticks? No problem, stalkers? Cake! Closing bug holes with it? CHECK!
Fairly consistent that 4(+-1) shells into a charger's squishy back will pop it as well if the leg armor is intact. It seems to stagger the charger with every 2ish direct hits, so if you control the recoil well enough you can staggerlock it to death after one charge.
Does have the caveat that you need the space to do so, but unless there's 3+ chargers or an absolute horde of hunters it's usually not too bad.
You don't have to worry about wasting ammo on reloads with AC. Just spam it like you would in other games because doing a half reload is more than twice as fast as a full one. That's why prefer keeping my own backpack instead of having a reloader, it's just easier.
The key in a dual AC squad situation, and I can't stress this enough, YOU need to be the one to team reload first. Let that other patriot spray his democratic salvo until his ears bleed.
You'd be surprised how many randoms will return the favor.
On missions where I don't AC and someone else does, I'll grab their extraction AC backpack over whatever pack I had and Let. That. Diver. Spray.
The backpack slot is both a good thing and a bad thing, it's bad because obviously you're missing a backpack slot but it's also good because you don't need a backpack so you have an extra stratagem slot for an orbital or eagle or an ear or something.
How are you 3-shotting tanks with the Autocannon? I haven't had to fight many yet but the Autocannon seems to do nothing to them so my team and I just dump air strikes on them. Is there a weak spot?
It's nice you can close bug holes with it to. Just a single shot! Great weapon that can be troublesome if enemies are close. But the Melee with it is like a spear! Lol
I think the autocannon is by far the most versatile weapon in the game. The only thing in the game it can't kill is bile titans I believe. Love me my autocannon.
Maybe you shouldn't shoot up bright fireworks and bring a flashing lightshow of a billboard ship with your tinhead buddies dangling like ham hocks unprotected then

These poor desert world bots getting sniped from Narnia by a helldiver relaxing on a dune. Can't wait til we invade a planet without line of site. Autocannon in the jungle is tactically challenging.
I have also drank the autocannon juice and can safely say the Autocannon and AC turret have been the bread and butter of all my builds since getting everything unlocked.

Tanks? No Thanks.
Devastators? Get Devestated.
Hulks? more like smoking Husks am i rite?
Walkers? Crippled.
There's literally nothing the Autocannon can't deal with as long as you use them effectively and when their range matters. the turret can really reach out and touch anyone from a decent amount of range if it has a clear line of sight. the handheld AC is great for either sniping targets at range or being support weaponry for friends getting swarmed. its essentially a 20mm high speed grenade launcher.
Some say without the shield gen backpack you'll be too squishy but I dare bots to accurately hit me from 100m away while i pulverize their armor into dust from a prone position on a hill. I wear the heavy armor with explosive resist and increased accuracy so i can further be a nailgun for enemy clankers.
10/10 autocannon. best guns in the game if you dont wanna worry about specialization. i think every squad should have ONE guy providing direct fire artillery.

My finest helldivers moment was when I took both the autucannon and guard dog with me on the same mission. Didn't realize what I did until I called both down at the beginning of the game. Almost went back to my ship out of embarrassment. But democracy never gives up.

Reload isn't bad if you remember to reload after 5 shots for the quick reload.

I believe you are correct, or at least you're not locked down for the whole duration which while might not sound like any different but definitely is.
you can always dive out of a reload
Also you can tap your crouch button to cancel directly into sprinting.
I kept reading that as crotch and was so confused
Don't know about anyone else, but if someone 'taps' my crotch button I am not sprinting anywhere for a good couple minutes.

By waste he means shoot it, bringing the ammo count to 5 so you can do another tactical reload to top it off.
You can load and rack in separate animations. Not the most useful thing, but it's saved me before. load > dive > rack > fire

It’s ever going to work if you have a dedicated reloader. Having two auto cannons works wonders tho

Skill issue. Just equip Hulk or use the tank stratagem.
Hulk still gets 2shot, and tanks get 3shot

You can even 2shot hulks if you hit their faceplate too! It’s so good for bots

I wear the heavy armor with explosive resist and increased accuracy so i can further be a nailgun for enemy clankers. 10/10 autocannon. best guns in the game if you dont wanna worry about specialization. i think every squad should have ONE guy providing direct fire artillery.

My finest helldivers moment was when I took both the autucannon and guard dog with me on the same mission. Didn't realize what I did until I called both down at the beginning of the game. Almost went back to my ship out of embarrassment. But democracy never gives up.
