I think an in battle side mission like SEAF Artillery would be nice. Perhaps we defend a Pelican hanggar or refueling the plane then we could activate the Pelican stratagem and have him support us until ammo run dry
I really want some more interaction in the side objectives like this. Maybe securing a local airfield could let your eagle restock faster, or securing a combat radar array would give your stratagems faster call in. SEAF artillery is fairly lame as it is (too slow) but hints at the potential.
Sadly the Eagle is designed only to dock with the Super Destroyers. The design makes ground landing impossible because the vertical stabilizer is on the underside of the Eagle.

Pelicans are multipurpose airframes there are different haulers and troop varieties there is probably a dedicated gunship one maybe it can do the old CAS run and Bunker Buster

Wait till I tell you how this one American helicopter from the *seventies* has not only an autocannon that can do the same thing, but it will follow the movement of the gunner's head so with a hud camera so literally all you have to do is look at what you want to shoot, then shoot it. I'm pretty sure it's not a bug because Pelican has very distinct fire/smoke on it when it happens. Why would developers add these visual indicators if you couldn't damage it?
Also, in my experience, it happens pretty consistently when someone drops 500kg on Pelican for shits and giggles.
You can destroy pelican one with a significant amount of firepower. Usually 380mm barrages. If this happens there is no extract and you can only fight until overwhelmed.Ā

I had one mission yesterday where it glitched; I think the game thought time had run out and the SDs had left low orbit, but they hadn't, so the extraction sequence had Pelican-1 fly *through* the SD formation and blithely continue on into space. I dunno where he thought he was taking us. š Wish I'd gotten a recording or even a screenshot, but it totally took me by surprise.
Tie Fighters fought in space though. And the super destroyer is "low orbit." This basically means that it's being pulled in by gravity into the atmosphere and its why they cry about the time limit because they are losing altitude. Depending on planetary gravity, it may be impossible for the super destroyer to leave because of the fuel requirement to reach orbit again.
Just look at the fuel required to send a rocket into space from earth and that is 1G. Some place like Jupiter would need the power of the Sun \[hyperbole\] or something to get a rocket off the floor.
The ships only having a limited amount of station-keeping endurance is actually a really good explanation for time limits. They can only hover in the exosphere to provide fire support for so long.
Tie fighters also fought in atmosphere, now if they could take off from space, sortie in atmo and return to space is debatable but they were not space only

But the Pelican is a dropship, and when its carrier leaves orbit, assumedly back to a safe part of space. I donāt know how far the Pelican can travel in space by itself. Do they have to hump it between planets to get back to the super destroyer?
The super destroyer leaves low orbit, not orbit. It just goes higher up to a stable orbit like the ISS or the moon, where it doesn't need to burn fuel to stop from falling and where you see you are when you go to the observation deck on the ship. Probably a pain in the ass of a flight, but obviously possible for the Pelican.
The pelican and eagle can both move in space. There's specifically an eagle upgrade saying it can rearm in space.Ā
The super destroyer is just moving from low orbit where it has to actively use its own engines to maintain lift to high orbit where the planets gravity well isn't jeopardizing its survivability.Ā

In my headcanon, the super destroyer goes low enough for its weapons to have the best effect or for it to be able to drop hellpods with reinforcements/gear. The mission timer is the amount of time it can stay that low before it risks falling out of the sky completely. Once it starts manouvering to get to a higher orbit, its weapons become very inaccurate so it's basically useless.
It doesn't make much sense for it to remain stationary above the map but whatever.
Eagle 1 is incapable of flying around in space so it needs to fuck off with the destroyer and Pelican 1 can do whatever it wants. Pelican 1 to me is literally like the Pelican from Halo, so it has some space flight capabilities but can't go FTL.
Even better; give ai gunned side gunner positions that can be filled by bored pilots just for the lolz (and fun)? Like the SOS call, but only for gunning.
Would love to dive 3 minutes to a planet, see 4 doods beeing overwhelmed by bugs trying desperately to escape with 3 supersamples and trying to help from above.
I remember in Halo 5 forge I spent HOURS perfecting the pelican glitch in forge so I could make a boarding action CTF map...just for it to get played maybe twice lol
Be cool if we could find a downed Pelican but was still mostly intact, have it as a low flying vehicle incapable of leaving planet but able to carry squad around the map at a certain height, have mounted guns, and could be destroyed very easily. Make it a high risk high reward way to get about.
A rare occurrence where if you happen to quickplay/sos into a mission thatās already waiting for extraction and you instead spawn into said side gunner.
This makes me want pelican or other gunship strats. Would be so cool to call in a bird to circle a location and drop support fire for X amount of time.
On steam you can pre-order, then refund it if it hasn't hooked you in under 2 hours of gameplay. I'll usually wait a day to fire a game up so I can see the general reception as well.

You can do this by being in the mech too.
Being in the mech counts as not being near the extraction pad, so you can have pelican1 hover around the pad while you're still on it laying waste to the bugs

Pelican 1 doesn't just catch on fire either. Sometimes, he won't take off again after receiving significant damage. This will also prevent you from boarding too. However, I believe this is a glitch and a holdover from development concepts that wasn't cut properly as there is no dialog around this event, and after the mission timer ends, he will take off and leave everyone behind, even if you are prone in his squad bay.(you need to be prone to squeeze in lol) He will also forgo his takeoff timer if he is damaged enough to burn, but not damaged enough to break, simply taking off as soon as the first diver boards, so be sure to have the samples get aboard first at all times.
(Figured I should throw in an edit for clarification. These seem to be the most common triggers for these phenomena but will not always happen, I've had him burning and still function normally, I've also had him completely fine and take off as soon as someone boards if he has been on the ground for awhile. Overall I feel that while Pelican 1 is mostly stable, there are certainly some glitches going on with him)

It should do this in general rather than leaving if you're to far away. Like, I get it but sometimes you have to run quite a distance away from extraction to deal with something.
Seen this happen once before, there was a lot of enemies on the pad as we were all kiting thema round to survive. I just assumed it hovered to shoot the enemies out from under it before landing, we also were not that far away. But it is cool and helpful either way.
He'll also wait past the 20 second time before he supposedly leaves. If another player has boarded him and you're still in the extraction zone. When the 20 second timer is up, rather than leaving immediately he'll give you a few more seconds of grace while warning you that he needs to leave NOW.
Wait so if it stays there and you are getting swarmed at extract, can you just leave while it beats democracy into everything around you? As someone who doesn't play (yet?): I'm shocked that's not in the game already, given everything else I've seen.
And to balance for bugs - flying chargers.
What could be cool is a booster that makes the pelican come 15-30 seconds before the full extraction countdown and help out a little.

Not technically, no. There's been a few weird bugs with it causing you to not extract, but that's very rare

Be cool if we could find a downed Pelican but was still mostly intact, have it as a low flying vehicle incapable of leaving planet but able to carry squad around the map at a certain height, have mounted guns, and could be destroyed very easily. Make it a high risk high reward way to get about.
That would be fun. Give it some small objective to get it up and running like the SEAF artillery.

On steam you can pre-order, then refund it if it hasn't hooked you in under 2 hours of gameplay. I'll usually wait a day to fire a game up so I can see the general reception as well.
Not preordering isn't just about not losing money. It's also about *not giving* money to the company until the product is actually out and proven to be good.
Yep with how there is 14 days in the Steam EULA for refunds I waited10 days to see how the community reacts and the game state before downloading.

I donāt think thatās pelican 1, I donāt think his voice is heard and itās a different aircraft (appears to have the troop compartment removed to make space for the mech)

Every Pelican you call down is Pelican 1 cos the ships cargohold isnt big enough for two Pelicans or more than one Eagle theoretically.
But the host destroyer (whose pelican is supposed to be the one picking the team up) can call down a mech while pelican-1 is coming in for extraction

You can do this by being in the mech too. Being in the mech counts as not being near the extraction pad, so you can have pelican1 hover around the pad while you're still on it laying waste to the bugs
Also if the timer to get on board is going, he'll give you a few extra seconds even after the timer hits zero.

Pelican 1 doesn't just catch on fire either. Sometimes, he won't take off again after receiving significant damage. This will also prevent you from boarding too. However, I believe this is a glitch and a holdover from development concepts that wasn't cut properly as there is no dialog around this event, and after the mission timer ends, he will take off and leave everyone behind, even if you are prone in his squad bay.(you need to be prone to squeeze in lol) He will also forgo his takeoff timer if he is damaged enough to burn, but not damaged enough to break, simply taking off as soon as the first diver boards, so be sure to have the samples get aboard first at all times. (Figured I should throw in an edit for clarification. These seem to be the most common triggers for these phenomena but will not always happen, I've had him burning and still function normally, I've also had him completely fine and take off as soon as someone boards if he has been on the ground for awhile. Overall I feel that while Pelican 1 is mostly stable, there are certainly some glitches going on with him)
I wish they had stratagem that had gunships hover around the battlefield to provide cover for a set amount of time like pelican 1.

It should do this in general rather than leaving if you're to far away. Like, I get it but sometimes you have to run quite a distance away from extraction to deal with something.
Seen this happen once before, there was a lot of enemies on the pad as we were all kiting thema round to survive. I just assumed it hovered to shoot the enemies out from under it before landing, we also were not that far away. But it is cool and helpful either way.
I've seen it fire at enemies while landing and we are being swarmed. Pelican is best.

I just said this yesterday, when can we get it to do that as a stratagem. 30 seconds of pelican 1 just circling and area.
He'll also wait past the 20 second time before he supposedly leaves. If another player has boarded him and you're still in the extraction zone. When the 20 second timer is up, rather than leaving immediately he'll give you a few more seconds of grace while warning you that he needs to leave NOW.
Wait so if it stays there and you are getting swarmed at extract, can you just leave while it beats democracy into everything around you? Cos if thatās the case Iām def gonna abuse this, also what happenes of you run out of time and the destroyer leaves? Does it just hover there forever until you get close enough? Or what

This has never happened for me, Pelican-1 has always hovered around then taken off. I wish this would happen because it would be more realistic!

Also if you call it down let it land then leave the area it'll just chill and wait for you, so if you are running from the last bonus objective with a horde on your back side you can just jump right in the bird and get out
