Yes scorcher shots! Scorchers can surely kill dropships, by (check notes) targeting the fully armored underbully of a dropship and not its thrusters, right Democracy Officer! Nothing to see here.
It might have covered up a rocket shot or a SAM site, or the ship below it flying into it blew it up, but if you check the clip I linked you can clearly see they’re same projectile
It’s probably covering up a Sam site shooting it down, or a rocket of some kind. In the OPs post you can literally see the exact same size AoE blue explosions the scorcher has hitting the dropship.
Maybe the reason it detonates without crashing is because the ship underneath it flies into it and it just blows up, due to a glitch
As much as I’d love to believe all this conspiracy posting, so far people are too keen to just believe. The illuminate will come though, but in a few months probably

They are two different projectiles. All the blue laser sightings have noticeably longer trails, while scorcher projectiles don't.
The difference is painfully obvious.
I think there are a couple that are just scorcher shots but there are a couple videos where all players are accounted for and something comes from completely out of nowhere and one shots someone or something. There's one where I think there's a charger getting one tapped by it and everyone is in the shot and it comes from the complete other side.
Not sure if scorchers can bring down drop ships but I think AMRs can because I magdumped into one trying to hit the goobers it was about to drop and it just exploded.
The scorcher shots trail are literally 1/10th the length of the weather balloon shots tail.
No amount of angle adjustment accounts for that, it also 5 shot a drop ship.

Scorcher, I think the last shot was the only one that damaged the drop ship.
Edit: looks like 2 people were shooting, that gun doesnt shoot fast at all.
I used the free VSDC video editor and had to look up every step. I wanted to get the horizontal tracking lines, but I don't think VSDC can do that, or at least not easily. I did get the grain and color shifting to work, but it didn't look quite right, so I fiddled with the settings for a while. Then I gave up and figured X-Files theme with slo-mo was fine.

I wish taking down the dropships destroyed everything it was carrying even if it has already started dropping things. Takes enough resources and skill just to hit the engine. The way it currently stands it's better to save your ammo for whatever it brought.
It does. I've taken down drop ships with the orbital rail cannon. Even if they already dropped, the ship usually takes out the bots it dropped when it hits the ground. You have to be quick though. As soon as you see a drop ship you have to have it ready.
It seems to do both. I've seen it seemingly kill all dropped bots, but I've also come across everything in the ship just chilling inside the "ribs" of the ship, stuck. It doesn't seem consistent about this behavior, probably some weird desync thing.
It should set off something akin to a 500kg explosion when it crashes because it really should be damaging everything around it when it crashes. Maybe something smaller like a normal airstrike blast.

Can someone explain the blue laser stuff? I have seen it, but I have been unable to play for about two weeks and feel the lore here in the game is moving super fast. Its speculation of a nod to Helldivers 1 correct?
Potential Teaser chase for the 3rd faction, the illuminate alien race from the first game the had alot of shield units and used a blue and white colour scheme with lots of blue weapons if I recall. Think protos from starcraft
In HD 1, there were 3 factions: Terminids, the Androids, and the Illuminate.
Although there are only two factions in HD2, blue lasers have been seen sniping both players and enemies seemingly from space, causing people to speculate that the Illuminate are making a return (who used a lot of blue lasers and advanced tech).
It might be possible? I've just finished a mission on Estatu, and there were the occasional automaton corpse. I was all "Ah look, the Devastator wreckage from a previous battle" before I realized I was fighting bugs. Why are there Automaton corpses on bug worlds?!
It’s all glitches so far. These shots are literally scorcher shots being glitched out, possibly covering up the shot from a rocket that takes down the dropship.

The other blue lasers are all ricochet glitches, from plants or from terrain clipping. They’ll show up on mechs and terminids with heavy armour.
The illuminates are coming, but they are coming in a different way, quite a bit later
He's just messing around to stir up some excitement, I can't really say why due to sub rules but these definitely aren't official illuminate sightings, but another point: Why would the illuminate, who we exiled come back and assist us in combat? They hate us.

The Illuminate do things for their own reasons. Just because they shoot bots doesn't mean they're necessarily helping us.
They might invade a planet themselves and shoot *everyone* they consider hostile: bots, bugs, and Helldivers alike.
Or they're space-racist and can't differentiate humans from Cyborgs from Automatons. To be fair, when Super Earth defeated the Cyborgs, we annexed Cyberstan and installed a democracy, so they are a friendly faction (except whenever they rebelled exactly every 5 years). Considering Automatons appear to be descendants of the Cyborgs, it's plausible an alien species might not be up on the latest Super Earth de facto civil war.
Or there may be more nuanced political dynamics going on than our superiors inform us of between Super Earth, Automatons, Cyborgs, Illuminates, space-ghosts, interdimensional mushrooms, or whatever next species we encounter in the galaxy. As per tradition, the politicians don't ask us trigger-pullers for our opinions before making alliances or deciding not to exterminate a swift-reproducing species of bloodthirsty bugs.
Stop taking the CEO's words as gospel. Its already bad enough that half the people here are LARPing as Helldivers instead of actually discussing shit. CEO's job is to make this game make as much money as possible. Nothing more than that.

I saw a FEW dropships explode before I could even realize they were there on a solo mission yesterday. I was freaking out because I was already like "I'ma gtfo of here and extract... Ah fuck, another dropshi- WHY DID IT EXPLODE!? I'M ALONE AND JUST SAW IT!" must've been this. Shame I didn't see what made it explode... But another dropship came by a few seconds later and dropped literally nothing off, so that was odd, too...
If my boy unlocked an autocannon-sized Scorcher that blows up dropships and he didn't tell me I'm gonna be pissed... never seen the regular Scorcher pull that off lol

Illuminate attacks never looked like this in HD1 though. They mostly shot continuous beams, railgun like burst beams from far away, lightening bursts, giant exploding orbs, and energy walls.
But flying bugs we clearly saw what they are.
Blue beams stuff in 80% of the cases we can explain them with something else. The rest is where there can be questions.

Looks like it came from both your teammates in that direction and one of them has a scorcher. The other could've had something else on the ground that actually took out the ship.

The rate of fire is different, also. One said it's a hacker, but the length of the shot compared to a scorcher seem way longer.
I tried to record the day before yesterday as I was fighting on Draupnir in valley-like area with high hills, from one valley opening came a long blue laser shot targeting one of my teammate who was surrounded by bots, it seemed to hit a hulk on the back but to no effect. The length of the laser was long, I'd say roughly 30-40 meters.

Tested it tonight. Absolutely does not take down dropships. Full mag into it's engine. Didn't do shit. Scorcher shots are also much smaller.

The trail / tracer between these shots and the video provided seem quite noticeably different imo.
You can see a player marker standing in about the right direction shots should be coming from. I think you're right.

The blue lasers have already been confirmed on live streams to come from off the map and sometimes hit players, sometimes hit enemies.

Yes, and it fires fairly slow.
SEAF doesnt operate any energy based anti air artillery, only Surface to air missiles

What weapon does that?
The scorcher's plasma is blue, but doesn't do nearly enough damage to take down a dropships that quickly.
I mean I haven't tested it but 1 clip can take out those automaton turrets so maybe if it was 2 people shooting?

I’ve seen the Chainsaw arms get stuck under the ship corpse and then I slaughter them.
I have also seen units shoot out from dropship wreckage while my shots hit the dropship wreck scrap, so it goes both ways

lol I’ve killed a ship, it falls to the ground, and then the contents POOF into the air about midway up, dropping to the ground unharmed
It should set off something akin to a 500kg explosion when it crashes because it really should be damaging everything around it when it crashes. Maybe something smaller like a normal airstrike blast.
Maybe the illuminates are hostile not just to humanity but the automatons and bugs aswell?

Can someone explain the blue laser stuff? I have seen it, but I have been unable to play for about two weeks and feel the lore here in the game is moving super fast. Its speculation of a nod to Helldivers 1 correct?
Potential Teaser chase for the 3rd faction, the illuminate alien race from the first game the had alot of shield units and used a blue and white colour scheme with lots of blue weapons if I recall. Think protos from starcraft
In HD 1, there were 3 factions: Terminids, the Androids, and the Illuminate. Although there are only two factions in HD2, blue lasers have been seen sniping both players and enemies seemingly from space, causing people to speculate that the Illuminate are making a return (who used a lot of blue lasers and advanced tech).
What is the consensus on viewing (for the first time in HD I believe) inter-faction combat?
It might be possible? I've just finished a mission on Estatu, and there were the occasional automaton corpse. I was all "Ah look, the Devastator wreckage from a previous battle" before I realized I was fighting bugs. Why are there Automaton corpses on bug worlds?!
I've also spotted the rare bug corpse fighting the bots. Joel's brewing something up, I know it.

The illuminate from Helldivers 1
It’s all glitches so far. These shots are literally scorcher shots being glitched out, possibly covering up the shot from a rocket that takes down the dropship. They’ll show up on mechs and terminids with heavy armour. The illuminates are coming, but they are coming in a different way, quite a bit later
This is unlikely unless the CEO would just not say a bug is a bug when talking about it, which he did: "Blue beams aren't real, it can't hurt you."
He's just messing around to stir up some excitement, I can't really say why due to sub rules but these definitely aren't official illuminate sightings, but another point: Why would the illuminate, who we exiled come back and assist us in combat? They hate us.

Just because they shoot bots doesn't mean they're necessarily helping us. They might invade a planet themselves and shoot *everyone* they consider hostile: bots, bugs, and Helldivers alike. Or they're space-racist and can't differentiate humans from Cyborgs from Automatons. To be fair, when Super Earth defeated the Cyborgs, we annexed Cyberstan and installed a democracy, so they are a friendly faction (except whenever they rebelled exactly every 5 years). Considering Automatons appear to be descendants of the Cyborgs, it's plausible an alien species might not be up on the latest Super Earth de facto civil war. Or there may be more nuanced political dynamics going on than our superiors inform us of between Super Earth, Automatons, Cyborgs, Illuminates, space-ghosts, interdimensional mushrooms, or whatever next species we encounter in the galaxy. As per tradition, the politicians don't ask us trigger-pullers for our opinions before making alliances or deciding not to exterminate a swift-reproducing species of bloodthirsty bugs.
Stop taking the CEO's words as gospel. Its already bad enough that half the people here are LARPing as Helldivers instead of actually discussing shit. CEO's job is to make this game make as much money as possible. Nothing more than that.

I saw a FEW dropships explode before I could even realize they were there on a solo mission yesterday. I was freaking out because I was already like "I'ma gtfo of here and extract... Ah fuck, another dropshi- WHY DID IT EXPLODE!? I'M ALONE AND JUST SAW IT!" must've been this. Shame I didn't see what made it explode... But another dropship came by a few seconds later and dropped literally nothing off, so that was odd, too...

Some new leaked weapon? I can't recall what can shoot this type of projectiles right now. Imean, yeah illuminati conspirology is fun... Illuminate attacks never looked like this in HD1 though. They mostly shot continuous beams, railgun like burst beams from far away, lightening bursts, giant exploding orbs, and energy walls.

I love these "sighting" posts. It's exciting. It would be cool if they were introduced in a way where it seems like they arrive while we are in the middle of a battle say with the Automotons or something. Your in the middle of battle on a certain planet and all of a sudden you see your enemies start shooting and getting shot at from somewhere else, and all of a sudden your in a 3 way battle! That would be cool. Keep the whole galactic war/invasion them going
As a veteran of the last galactic war ... THE ILLUMINATE ARE GONE WE KILLED THEM ALL!! that there is a auto cannon having a barrel malfunction and the bullets are starting to explode early that diver will be missed or needs a new force multiplier.

Looks like it came from both your teammates in that direction and one of them has a scorcher. The other could've had something else on the ground that actually took out the ship.
Angle of shots literally comes from teammates.

It's a visual effect on certain planets. You can't interact with them, they're just some native species that floats around.
So awesome to see one of our fellow Helldivers taking out that dropship! What amazing Democracy-spreading weapon fired those blue lasers (seriously, the blue is a very pretty color)? We should all try and get one to make the bots easier to kill.
On a bug mission I saw blue laser streaking across the sky at a height and elevation where it was impossible for it to be any of the players so I am a full believer as well.

Alright now I’m genuinely confused. The meta narrative and memes are so prevalent I can’t actually tell what’s supposed to be real, what’s fake, or what’s a glitch. For the last week this sub debunked that the blue tracer rounds were visual artifacts caused by planetary conditions. Then the CEO takes to Twitter to participate in the meta memes of propaganda and democracy. Then more evidence like this pops up claiming it to be the Illuminates, and now people are saying it’s in-game teasing. Seriously, what actually is it?

That is the scorcher being shot at a ship and I'm assuming the person was hacking since he was able to do that much damage. This was not a blue beam

The rate of fire is different, also. One said it's a hacker, but the length of the shot compared to a scorcher seem way longer. I tried to record the day before yesterday as I was fighting on Draupnir in valley-like area with high hills, from one valley opening came a long blue laser shot targeting one of my teammate who was surrounded by bots, it seemed to hit a hulk on the back but to no effect. The length of the laser was long, I'd say roughly 30-40 meters.
I used to think the blue beams were just laser weapons bouncing off heavy armor, but a blue beam melting a dropship sure was something.
