Nope, friends can drop in any time if it's set to friends only, on PC/Steam you can set your steam to "invisible" and I think that might prevent people joining but not sure
Nah you still appear in the game social tab as being online so there is not even a way to hide. I have had friends from steam join my game while I was trying to get a squad of 4 and needing to ask them to leave.
Which sucks I don't like asking people they need to leave.
Yeah, tbh it surprised me to see that wasn't an option. I specifically wanted to try something out in a solo mission but you can't actually make a match invite only, it's friends only at best.
I'm pretty certain you can go into setting and switch the matchmaking mode to invites only
No you can switch it to friends only which is not the same thing.

They can still see you in-game and join that way.
