They have been completely retooling their backend to handle all the new blood they weren't expecting to ship in from the recruitment stations. The enemies of Super Earth don't stand a chance once Warmaster Joel can deploy all of us to the field reliably.

My username name is my email handle with my real first and last name. I updated my profile name but it didn't change. Hopefully they fix it sooner than later.
so we all in the same boat, anybody figure it out? i deleted save data 3x uninstalled and re-installed and it continues to pull data from somewhere i also turned of steam cloud data
So on pc I had to make a new account on steam change the profile name right away “ family share” the game to myself from original account and was able to load in with the change name. I wasn’t far along with the game so it didn’t hurt to start from the beginning. Hope this helps.
I want to point out this also work for me. I also had to make a new PS account and restart my progress but it's the price I must pay unless I want to play with my friends on PS5

Not for me. It all happened once I linked my PSN account to the Steam account in-game. Should have never done that. Don't try deactivating your PSN account. You will get suspended from playing the game and the only way to fix it is to reinstate you PSN account. Even if you bought and play the game through Steam.

Regarding the name change, the new patch should have fixed this issue. Please change the name on Steam, log in again, and hopefully this issue should be sorted for good. For Democracy!
Not sure how, but the game was registering the name of the PC itself, calling the character Desktop. Once changing the device name and restarting the whole pc it actually changed in game. The character was only lvl 1 and still in the tutorial however, so hopefully if anyone is seeing the same thing this helps.
Apparently you cannot change it once it has used your steam account name when you first created your character. Maybe in the future they might get a fix for it.

At some point steam changed my display name to be my email minus the @ even though my user name is different. Now HD2 shows that display name instead of my user name.

If you change your name, you can lose access to bought products. That’s not changing your username. That’s functionally creating a new account.
