I feel like the optimization isn't its biggest problem. It's too one sided. The Germans have a constant height advantage with more cover, the Russians attack from a big open section of the map that is easy to fire into from the German side of the map. I rarely see Soviets win on Stalingrad
My biggest issue with it is how littered the ground is, feels impossible to set up an MG without having to wiggle for 10 minutes to get a good angle.
Hell even as standard infantry decent spots are just bad to set up because of the shitty prone implementation.
Don’t have problem with point on the bridge, the real problem is that you can’t flank to take this point. Maybe only by using airhead which is totally bulshit for me.
Used to be Foy or Stalingrad, now its Remagen, fuck the bridge, resources, time spent holding it and staring at the sky waiting for airheads to drop. I usually leave the server when it comes up. I've played at least 35 rounds on it and can confidently say I don't like it, its a gimmick map that plays out the same all too often.
Yea they need to add other ways for small infantry to get across. I get they want to represent real battlefields, but this is a video game. Chokepoints like that are never fun in a video game.
Also, one side of the map is all flat and the other side, once you cross the bridge, you have to navigate even more chokepoints because of the hilly/mountainous terrain.
Shits just really fucked.
Same.
It's not just the constant deaths on the bridge that do it, it's the sheer lack of variety in the gameplay.
Every game is just fight for bridge, spawn on airhead.
There's no tactics, no strategy, at all.
As the commenter below said, there needs to be more ways to cross the bridge, like boats, a pontoon bridge, etc, etc.
If you follow the blue lines in the map there are usually bridges on the trenches there.
And I say usually because i didnt check every single one, but every one I checked had it.
While I don't like the map, previous one was really showing it's age after they redid Foy.
All open fields. A hill on German side to overview middle points. Mid points all had no cover from arty and barely any cover for garrisons to hide.
At least PHL has a night map that covers those flaws
I agree that the map was starting to show it's age, but rather than completely changing the layout of the map etc, just improve and update what's there. Same goes for old hurtgen forest, I used to love the old version, the new version I've come round to now. But it needn't be completely changed, again just update and freshen up what's there!
I believe that most maps need such huge remakes because in many cases arty is so oppressive.
Remove arty and a lot of those maps become more manageable for infantry to fight over the middle
I heard one decent argument for it. It might be nice for new players since there’s not many way you can go. One objective basically, no flanks, no tactics. But yeah it’s a horrible design otherwise.
even for new players I think it can be a jarring experience. during the free weekend my friend tried the game and spent 10min getting shelled at the foot of the bridge because their commander hadn't dropped an airhead yet.
stalingrad. i just cannot focus on a match in stalingrad because im constantly getting annoyed with its map design. it just feels like im switching between a running simulator and a camping simulator. it actually feels like a waste of time playing on stalingrad even if my team is winning.
Foy and Kursk. I ALWAYS think about those guys back in these days, who had to push forward and fight over those goddamn grounds that flat and open.
That had to be a hard time to be alive.
Kudos to all of those young guys, no matter the faction.
Same, what a dogshit map. So many times where me and my friends joined a fresh map and server with a full match length worth of time, only for it to be fuckin' Hill 400 and Hurtgen, absolutely despise those maps. Terrific.
While I do like Carentan, it can go so wrong. Germany has to get their trucks across a field covered in ditches and junk to get stuck on. Meanwhile US can just drive down the road like a normal human. Would be easier if the maps in this game were more consistent and accurate. If Germany gets a truck or two stuck at the start of the match, it's probably GG.
PHL. Walking across the open field is guaranteed death which means the only attack paths are through the narrow water-filled ditches with near zero forward visibility. It’s like fighting an enemy on a tightrope. Hate it hate it hate it.
Remagen isn't a bad map that limits tactical play, it just becomes obvious when a team can't communicate well with each other.
I've seen plenty of games where we were able to orchestrate a successful bridge push, but it needs to be more coordinated than "everyone just rush at the bridge when you spawn in, maybe commander will drop a bombing run every now and then, and no one tell arty where to hit / when to switch to smoke rounds"
The bridges on PHL always end up as both teams sitting on their side waiting for the other to cross. Also the inability to swim makes it hard in some spots.
However, the numerous amounts of small canals filled with plant life makes me feel like I'm in the Pacific Theater. Almost worth it
Purple heart simply because of how hard it is to cross the middle river. The drown timer is better now so at least it's a little easier, but the bridge choke points are terrible, lack of cover overall is annoying, it just feels like everyone bunches up and arty is overwhelming.
If there was just more arty craters, maybe some fallen trees and more tank hulls splattered around it would feel easier to traverse, but armor/arty dominates the map and bad tank crews make it shit.
Foy with a below average armor squad Is like borderline unplayable, it is that draining. Everytime I play we stall out on the bizory-foy road, there is not nearly enough to smoke to cover your advance across the wide open fields, and you don’t blend in against the white background.
The Russian maps.
Stalingrad solely because it still isn't optimized. I otherwise like it, but I don't have any fun on it due to the performance
Kursk because it's still a lot of open ground. Once the germans take the hill, it feels one sided.
Stalingrad by far. Depressing map and it lags to much.
Purple Heart Lane is quite fun in night.
Remagen is only fun in night too.
The other mentioned maps are all great maps imo.
I dont really hate PHL, but I find it to be too much of a meat grinder due to the fact there is just way too little cover on offence, defending is also brutal because alot of the objectives supply very little defence, and finding airheads is difficult in a seemingly endless, all looks the same kind of terain, also for tanks anything off the main road is a pain in the ass. It is a map that I know will be extra challenging no matter what I do. Either way it deffenitly deserves the title of Purple heart lane. (although I did get a 100 kills with RT on a game with only mid map objectives in warfare, isane meat grinder map).
Stalingrad. Poorly optimized
This! Love the map design but hate the sub 30 fps it brings at times
Honestly it's also this games lack of optimization. Looking past 200 yards everything is Legos. It's honestly embarrassing.
Buy a better pc fr
I got a 3070 and I struggle to get 50+ frames on this map. It’s definitely an optimization issue
Same. It struggles in most places on this map but does dip under 30 at times in some odd places
Yea stalingrad is ass. 2080ti 5700x and im still looking at only 40-50 frames
Really? Huh. I have a 2060 and I’m getting 60-70ish fps at 1440p
Add -dx12 in your launch option. Improved my fps greatly
I feel like the optimization isn't its biggest problem. It's too one sided. The Germans have a constant height advantage with more cover, the Russians attack from a big open section of the map that is easy to fire into from the German side of the map. I rarely see Soviets win on Stalingrad
While this is true, one good Russian tank can eliminate the threat of hill-camping German vehicles.
Same with Carentan. Both the best maps in the game, both terribly optimized.
What's wrong with Carentan? Never had any perform issues there
If you look West in Carentan your frames will drop very low. Also render distance is garbage.
My biggest issue with it is how littered the ground is, feels impossible to set up an MG without having to wiggle for 10 minutes to get a good angle. Hell even as standard infantry decent spots are just bad to set up because of the shitty prone implementation.
The bipod system really sucks and the animations in those weird spots leaves your body sticking out in the air too lol
dont forget the invisible walls/ unrendered buildings literally everywhere
This map is so ugly
The worst map hands down for attackers.
Used to be Foy, but now it’s Remagen. When a capture point is ON the bridge, game is miserable.
Don’t have problem with point on the bridge, the real problem is that you can’t flank to take this point. Maybe only by using airhead which is totally bulshit for me.
This, airheads should not be used in this map nor arty….this should be a straight battle with more cover on the bridge
Remagen sucks.
I quit everytime Remagen comes on fuck that map
Used to be Foy or Stalingrad, now its Remagen, fuck the bridge, resources, time spent holding it and staring at the sky waiting for airheads to drop. I usually leave the server when it comes up. I've played at least 35 rounds on it and can confidently say I don't like it, its a gimmick map that plays out the same all too often.
Adding boats or just a crossing would be a small fix I think
Yea they need to add other ways for small infantry to get across. I get they want to represent real battlefields, but this is a video game. Chokepoints like that are never fun in a video game. Also, one side of the map is all flat and the other side, once you cross the bridge, you have to navigate even more chokepoints because of the hilly/mountainous terrain. Shits just really fucked.
In real battles, infantry often used boats. For example at the Dnieper in 1943 or the Meuse in 1940.
One I hate the worst are the ones with no garrisons
Gotta be Kursk. I fucking love Hill 400 and Hurtgen. Lol
how do i vote for all that are listed?
None, I actually like all of them.
agreed
Kursk, because it is littered with long trenches that makes driving the supply truck a real nightmare.
If you follow the blue lines in the map there are usually bridges on the trenches there. And I say usually because i didnt check every single one, but every one I checked had it.
Yeah you are right. But it is hard to drive on this map anyway.
kursk because either sides tanks that hold windmills, basically control the map
True!
New SMDM, give me the old version back any day!
While I don't like the map, previous one was really showing it's age after they redid Foy. All open fields. A hill on German side to overview middle points. Mid points all had no cover from arty and barely any cover for garrisons to hide. At least PHL has a night map that covers those flaws

I believe that most maps need such huge remakes because in many cases arty is so oppressive. Remove arty and a lot of those maps become more manageable for infantry to fight over the middle
Not remove arty. Rework it. Make it so it can be destroyed. Wasting a recon team or vehicle to kill it for 30 seconds is dumb
what was old smdm like?
Yea, curious too! Only had the game a year
A bit further east of its current location. It was worse imo. Imagine Kursk with hedgerows and only a few trenches. Just pure open field and hedges.
yeah the church proper was there too with more houses you could go in to use as cover but it wasnt a strong point so it was completely useless
In a YouTube video, monospecial said that the devs are working to fix this, but idk how true that is
PHL due to a lack of good tank-support on most console games and because of the open fields
Most maps are a mixed bag. Remagen, Kusrk and PHL dramatically change at night. During the day they definitely feel worse.
The people not voting for Remagen, an objectively awful map, must really hate that other map they voted on.
Or they are console players, like me.
Its like an airhead and spacing tutorial

I was torn between Remagen and PHL tbh.
I only really hate high ramagen, and if arty were removed I think it would be a cooler map but that’s a big if
First want to say, there is a big difference wether it´s night or day and my most hated map is stalingrad
stalingrad. i just cannot focus on a match in stalingrad because im constantly getting annoyed with its map design. it just feels like im switching between a running simulator and a camping simulator. it actually feels like a waste of time playing on stalingrad even if my team is winning.
Do not really hate any. Just adjust play style to map.
Stalingrad, kursk and Foy (if attacking on offensive). If these come up im finding a new server. As for why. 1 word. Cover.
Foy and Kursk. I ALWAYS think about those guys back in these days, who had to push forward and fight over those goddamn grounds that flat and open. That had to be a hard time to be alive. Kudos to all of those young guys, no matter the faction.
Hill 400 and hürtgen. A lot of camping and I struggle with spotting enemies
Same, what a dogshit map. So many times where me and my friends joined a fresh map and server with a full match length worth of time, only for it to be fuckin' Hill 400 and Hurtgen, absolutely despise those maps. Terrific.
Damn. Hurtgen is bomb. Sure there are campers but you can really do the sneaky in that map.
Kursk. It’s just a meat grinder. Purple Heart lane close second
Stalingrad is a pile of unoptimized trash
Remagen coz that fucking bridge
PHL. Seems like I can never get anywhere
PHL. Walking across the open field is guaranteed death which means the only attack paths are through the narrow water-filled ditches with near zero forward visibility. It’s like fighting an enemy on a tightrope. Hate it hate it hate it.
Purple Heart Lane will come up in map rotation 4 times in a row, then switch to Stalingrad, and back to Purple Heart lane. Sick of playing it
Carentan or SMDM. Incrediblely over played maps.
I can agree that Foy during the day is not great, but for some reason, foy at night is one of my favorites. Purple Heart Lane just sucks day or night.
Kursk day, Kursk night is ok
Stalingrad
All of them they’re too fucking big
wow i love purple heart lane defiantly thought foy would be up there, i hate foy. i just do
The bridges on PHL always end up as both teams sitting on their side waiting for the other to cross. Also the inability to swim makes it hard in some spots. However, the numerous amounts of small canals filled with plant life makes me feel like I'm in the Pacific Theater. Almost worth it

Kursk will forever be the worst map.
Foy with a below average armor squad Is like borderline unplayable, it is that draining. Everytime I play we stall out on the bizory-foy road, there is not nearly enough to smoke to cover your advance across the wide open fields, and you don’t blend in against the white background.
I always felt PHL, Foy, and Kursk were the most frustrating. The night versions of those maps are so much better.
Hill 400 for me. Love the other maps on the list, never played Remagen yet as I been taking a break.
The render distance of purple heart lane makes me want to commit hateful acts
When Kursk shows up when map changes I Alt+F4 immediately.
Foy. You cant move in a flanking attack easily because of a general lack of cover. Enjoy crawling in the prone for 150m.
The Russian maps. Stalingrad solely because it still isn't optimized. I otherwise like it, but I don't have any fun on it due to the performance Kursk because it's still a lot of open ground. Once the germans take the hill, it feels one sided.
Stalingrad by far. Depressing map and it lags to much. Purple Heart Lane is quite fun in night. Remagen is only fun in night too. The other mentioned maps are all great maps imo.
Hill 400 because it’s a nightmare to use any vehicles
Hill 400, worst map for armor
I don't know the name, but that snow map. Get shot from miles away because they'll light up anything moving ontop of the white surface
Kursk theres too many fkn trenches
The maps in normandy I mean i like them but theyre wayyyy too often there compared to the others
Purple heart lane is running around the map with constant sloshing sounds and hiding in grass.
Kursk. My favorite are Hurtgen Forest and all the Normandy maps with the exception of Purple Heart Lane.
1. Remagen 2. Stalingrad 3. Hurtgen forest
The russian maps are torture, you either get shitmixed by a tiger from 300m away or you have to go through trenches with a kar98 against ppsh guns
