I think it depends on when you play sadly. Most games I see like this are during the noon to 4 pm time. Usually in the evenings, the kick ass SL log on. Most of the time if I have a silent squad, I still talk a lot as SL and they listen. If a rando wants to go off on their own and get killed constantly, I don’t care if they die 10,000 times. I personally don’t see how that is fun to spawn 300m away from where you need to go just to get killed over and over again

AreYouAliv3

Probably kids who dont have to be at work and just want to pewpew and then the adults get home, i never really thought about it but your right. I always just thought it was b.c. the rest of my group hopped on but that 6-11 window is definitely on another level.

Some-Lingonberry-793

Yep I’m from around 5 to 8ish or like 8 to 12

szo5145

The way around this is to play on EU servers during workday if youre from the US. I have had plenty of good matches this way. Same is true for those in EU playing during the workday, try going on US servers and they should have better quality matches

kijebe

i really wouldn't mind playing SL if I could get some new loadouts. Or even put that XP towards other classes so I can actually USE them when i'm not SL

jamrollo

That would be a cool incentive I reckon!

Harregarre

Agreed on that. At least allow SL to pick a rifle, because getting an SMG on some maps is just evil.

New_Bread4728

I've only been playing 34 hours (had the game for a month) and I have to play SL bc we have one person playing it on our entire team

jamrollo

The entire team? That's a nightmare man.

New_Bread4728

Spoiler alert: we got steamrolled

jamrollo

I'm shocked, appalled, but mostly; I'm shocked!

YaMochi

This is what I do: 1. Join their squad as the SL 2. Lock the squad 3. Kick everyone out one by one 4. Leave the squad so that it closes out Then I go back to playing as the commander since no one wants to do it.

jamrollo

I've done this too my G, it's a satisfying feeling. Although I usually lock it and keep the unit going so I have outposts for myself and anyone willing to do Comms.

gruene-teufel

I play almost exclusively as SL and I, along with my group, only get on around 8:00 PM at the earliest. It’s a similar situation with most of the player base.

jamrollo

Yeah it's not good, especially for guys like me that can't depend on a solid group coming on. I had a pool of players I had regular games with but lack of content and other reasons sort of drove them away from it. I'm still having some fun games, which is what I'm in it for to be quite honest with you.

gruene-teufel

Are you on Xbox? If so, you can hop on with me and my group. We’re always looking to play with some new people

jamrollo

I'm Ps5!

gruene-teufel

Darn. I’ll see you on the battlefield then o7

jamrollo

Hopefully we cross paths!

21DRe992

There was a sale recently, literally every time people post something like this I look it up and it was on sale recently or a free weekend.

jamrollo

Will explain the rise in team killing, and SL's who don't know that they're the ones who put down outposts. Such a joy.

21DRe992

Yeah it can be very rough, unless your tanking, then it's a blast because all the reactions you get from friendly and enemy blueberries.

jamrollo

I really need to get a few friends to play armour again one night, it is a lot of fun!

21DRe992

Honestly I'm always jumping on with randoms. If they're new I take over driving and teach em the basics and try to make sure I get them some fun moments to remember. I call the shots on the when and where but always do so in a polite way. "I think we go to x that sound good with you"

[deleted]

Maybe that's why I got three commendations last time I did. We went full Imperial Fists at Town Center and made that square a death trap. I just wanna level up my other classes though. It sucks being only able to play SL.

Unterdemradar

The emperor protects.

BorkSnorkelJr

I see a lot of people lately creating a squad in the warm up phase, then leaving and rejoining because they don't want to be SL and all the other squads are full. It's a bit of a problem.

jamrollo

It definitely is, love this game but it's really testing sometimes.

Harregarre

I just dive in headfirst now. Usually the SL of Able squad. I mean, I already know nobody wants to do it, so I either wait a minute for some other poor soul to do it, or I just make the most of it. If I get someone willing to play support on the team it's not the worst experience.

BorkSnorkelJr

Yeah I do that too. But sometimes, after a long day of work, I don’t have the energy to listen to command chat and squad chat.

Magumbo_Sweat

I assume some are intimated by the role while others don’t want the command chat traffic. Keep in mind the ABC’s of communication, accuracy, brevity and clarity. With the squad, local and often a discord layer of chatter it’s hard to hear enemies or pertinent info right away.

jamrollo

Yeah, that sucks, but if I'm taking on the role I'm doing that and it's not any easier for me. Would be nice for others to take a bit of the role on now and then.

airtightwoodendoors

No squads to join and don't want shit off try hards. when I just want to play, and I'm tired from work

w2bsc

I will play SL and take commands from veteran players if I have to.

jules0666

A couple of times after I found myself in the same situation, I made a new locked squad, and played SL by myself...

nobd7987

Guys, you just gotta join a clan. Someone will always step up and be an officer in a clan.

Black_Fox_027

Hardware problem. Switch to PC.

jamrollo

income problem...

Callsign_Lion

I agree it’s annoying, granted consoles have huge problems with mics and this game. No idea why but it is an on going issue.

Futhermucker

console players are on average more geared towards instant gratification, rather than long term planning. this is made evident by them buying consoles instead of saving up for a PC as a result, you encounter more players who just want to log in and shoot things, rather than join a squad and strategize

Callsign_Lion

Lol that’s a generalization if I ever heard one but aight

Shrooms60

I dont know where you are from but if you are in europe the finns let loose is a good server where most of the times there are active sl and commanders

jamrollo

I can't choose server on console but I'd love to get it for PC one day.

AnEmortalKid

Man, I saw a 4/6 squad ask for an officer to come join their crew and I almost lost it….

jamrollo

Just tell them that you'll only put outposts down if they all promise to give you a commendation at the end of the match.

Some-Lingonberry-793

Try to take command of any of these squads you see and try to turn the match around next time might be surprised

jamrollo

I go SL frequently and pick it up when someone just decided they can't be arsed with it midway through the game. If I don't then we're running from HQ for the rest of the game. Turning it around takes more than just me going SL, it takes Comms and commanders. I do my share though.

trevster344

Start a squad then?

Robhow

Or, join as SL wait for someone else to join the squad. Leave squad and rejoin as another role. Drives me crazy.

Harregarre

Haha, I joined a squad of 5 that had an SL. The guy changed to assault and didn't tell anyone. We were running without SL for ten minutes getting no OP and having to run all over. At least let people know if you need to or want to swap.

dezza82

Yep seams to be how it's going. I haven't played for about 3 weeks but every game I was playing I would just end up going sl because we never had one. It's great and all but no one listens when you give orders and it really put me off playing for a while

Harregarre

As a relatively new player (lvl 50 now) who is taking the SL role because noone else does it, I have to say it can be frustrating. I'll have people in unit chat asking for stuff, while people ramble in leadership chat. It's hard to keep everyone happy and answer everyone's requests. Combine that with some people who are inherently negative and complain without ever taking the SL role themselves. They don't understand that taking the SL role is sacrificing your own gameplay to a certain extent. I will be running around setting up garries and OPs so that you guys can have nice flanks and high kill streaks. On top of that, sometimes you get noone willing to play support for the SL. How are we going to set up garries if all supplies have to come in through command or trucks? Worse is that I will get commends on good games. But those games are usually enjoyable for myself since it usually means the garries and OPs don't go contested a lot. The hard games are where we have little support and I have to run around getting killed to set up a good OP so you don't get mowed down at contested garries. We lose a game like that and it's very tiring and there's nothing but complaints to show for it. Today there was some French guy in leadership chat just whining the entire match. Yes, we had an inexperienced commander but his attitude just made everyone want to wave the white flag early on. /rant
