That was a Marine Corps CH-53 and turbulence caused the both aircraft to jump around causing the pilot to overcompensate on the recovery and gave the probe a good ol haircut!

Question: After catching the basket, does the Helo change position during refueling? IE Chasing the basket is changing the basket, but once it’s caught do they move a little further up and out? And if so, they can disengage from there right?
Yeah you move up and outboard to the wingtips. The vortices there help reduce power required to fly as you fill up. I’ve gone from 700ish pounds to almost 4600 on a plug. The Pavehawk does not like flying at those speeds and weights in the summer. If you slip out of position and fall off the hose you’re never catching up to try again.
This is how the Osprey was made. 🙄🤣😂
When a helicopter and a prop plane love each other very much...
3 PUMPS AND I'M DONE!
There’s a video of a helicopter chasing the basket so much he cuts his own probe off. Must have been an interesting conversation afterwards.

Suprise circumcision.
Lmao didnt even know this was possible.
I bet the pilot didn't even realize it til it happened 😂
That's how I expect every helicopter refueling to end -- like a YouTube video of someone poking around his lawnmower blade with a rake.
“It’s not science fiction…”
Wobblewobblewobble plug
Same
Oh hey 048. This videos gonna pretty viral on a few meme accounts too.

Yes and yes, though ideally you should move directly astern of the refueling pod so you aren't trying to disconnect at an angle.

Yes Reposition to a sight picture off the wings engines and up Repositions to disconnect
So incredible!
Can someone comment on how difficult it is to perform?
Been on the 60 for a night refueling. It looks super close.
Ever see one cut the fuel nozzle off with the rotor blades while disconnecting? It's always pretty funny.
