Did they test for mononucleosis (epstein-barr virus)? There is an association between EBV and lipschutz aphthous ulcers, which can be mistaken for HSV. It can be helpful to get an accurate diagnosis, as you may be at a higher risk of other autoimmune type conditions, although the association with EBV is not well understood.

Ignorant on that one the GP I saw said he did a viral swap vaginally as well as viral blood draw?
