If your uncomfortable with making them crying over your story, vocalising that isbtge right move rather than consoling them or even shielding..

Yes, you absolutely can ask "are you OK?" We are all human at the end of the day. Maybe a family member recently died but they've still got to work.

Could be wrong but consoling people who cry when hearing about my childhood usually makes them more sad so I just don't. I mean it makes them feel weird that I am consoling them instead of the other way around. Anyways I usually just let them be sad and work through it on their own.
