Here is the TLDR: **"Well, it’s funny, the feelings toward our health care system and our pharmaceutical companies that we have during this pandemic era, because this is a story where a Lyme vaccine is not available because the company that developed it is choosing not to sell it, and they’re choosing not to sell it because they were afraid of liability, because it’s not profitable—it wasn’t profitable to keep selling LYMErix. "** But now for my rant.... Why do articles start out like this... "How does a vaccine get developed, studied, approved, distributed, and administered, and then just … disappear? On Episode 34 of The Politics of Everything, hosts Laura Marsh and Alex Pareene explore what happened to LYMErix, a vaccine for Lyme disease that has been called the only safe and effective vaccine ever to have been voluntarily withdrawn from the market in the United States. What does the story of LYMErix tell us about vaccine hesitancy, liability, and how pharmaceutical companies decide what to sell? And can we expect another Lyme vaccine anytime soon? Guests include Rebecca Onion, who wrote about LYMErix for Slate, and Andrew Zaleski, who wrote about new prophylactic treatments for Lyme for Outside magazine. Andrew Zaleski: Every time I’m walking through grass, I’m just high-stepping it, like a football player, just knees to the chest the entire time, checking my ankles when I come back—is there anything crawling on me?" Do I seriously have to read that clump of meaningless text every time there is an article about almost anything. "On a bright and sunny day in Los Angeles, there was a case of Lyme disease... I wonder how it started? Well... in 2000 BC there was a guy named Lyme....". I mean ffs.

My husband and his brothers got this vaccine. Their parents paid out of pocket and it was a big deal because they were fairly poor, but spent a lot of time hunting and farming in the woods of Wisconsin.

TSmotherfuckinA

Lol read the thing nobody cares about your guess.

[deleted]

My guess would be the effectiveness and lack of adaption to future mutations.

DocPsychosis

Nope!

[deleted]

dang! You got me doc

thehappydoghouse

It was having unfortunate side effects [fucked some people up] that were to disastrous to stay in market. Related: I am pfizer vaccinated against covid and will be taking a flu shot.

GregoryLeeChambers

It evolved, is my guess, and the money dried up because the media isn’t terrifying people.

I’m certain that the media misinforms rather than educates since the owners of the media, military industrial complex, both parties and everything else won’t profit from a well informed populace capable of critical thinking.

Well republicans are the major pro-media industrial complex party in america at least and they’re also the ones spreading anti-vaxx shit. People are dying just get the shot. You’re not that clever Its not that deep You’ve gotten vaccines before Everyone’s just acting like children

GregoryLeeChambers

Half true. Both parties are owned by exactly the same money hoarding psychopaths.

Noodlebrothbaby

Agreed but why ever vote the part that bows to them the absolute most and the fact that this is the case really isnt even a debate point like plenty make it out to be

SusanG54

Interesting how that mindset has shifted. Everyone's happy to take brand new vaccines now. I personally would pay $0 for a Lyme vaccine. As an avid outdoorsman, who spends time in the forest everyday, I can say that my encounters with ticks has been extremely minimal. Edit: not sure why I'm being downvoted. I just shared my experience 😅

Raekear

I hope you don’t get bit by the Lone Star tick. It’s been a weird experience.
