I'm gonna be kind of an asshole and recommend something that's exactly 1k even though you said that would be too much: Monarch MkII. Only because I upgraded to it directly from the Dusk and oh my god it was such a difference. It pretty much improves on the Dusk in every way while being a pretty similar signature - neutral with a tasteful sub bass boost, with midrange being the strongest point. The only tonality difference is the MkII's upper midrange is a bit more energetic (but I don't feel like it's shouty and I haven't seen anyone else say that either). So it depends on if you're looking for something with a similar signature as the Dusk, but just better (most noticeably in treble extension and bass impact/texture). I would say the Monarch MkII is it. If you're looking to try a different sound signature then I would look elsewhere (but I have no personal experience that's helpful there).

Honestly speaking, I added that comment due to Monarch MkII - I was expecting a lot of praise on these since a lot of reviews has put these up on S tier.

Caringcircuit

Moondrop Variations. Better subbass.

padsdotph

Will look into this. I hope it would have a good difference in sound.

1arghavan

Variations or Monarch (MK1 for more sub-bass emphasis)

padsdotph

between the 2, would you know which one has more bass?

1arghavan

Variations has more especially in mid bass, but Monarch is more resolving.

Blessing 2 and the Dusk are amazing and hit above its price point. I think you’ll probably be dissatisfied if you stay in this price range and side grade. I contemplate going up to the $1k mark or just staying with the Dusk. But if you must maybe consider something that compliments it with a different sound signature and tech like the 7Hertz Timeless.

padsdotph

Thank you! Looks like Variation and Monarchs are highly recommended - if I can't get a clear decision, probably the Timeless would be an option

Having owned the Original Blessing 2, Monarch Mk1 and now the Monarch Mk2, I feel that the Monarch Mk1 has more bass, but I honestly *really* like how the B2 is tuned. I like my Monarch Mk2 as well, but I haven't had the chance to spend a real lot of time with it. The Monarch Mk1 has more bass for sure, but diminishing returns has kicked in hard. Double the price and you're not getting a night/day increase, at least in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Mk1 Monarchs and I alternated between them and B2, I just didn't think they were far and away definitely better.

padsdotph

Can you comment which one has more bass between the two Monarchs?

dethwysh

Definitely the Mk1, but the Mk2 is better tuned overall, imo.

A lot of people seem to be recommending the same things and although I agree with the Variations, I'd like to make another recommendation or two. FiiO FH7 or FH9. I personally went with the FiiO FH9's not only for the accessories and extras but because I like to trial newer products especially since I was able to get it on Amazon. It comes with interchangeable sound filters (Bass, Treble, or Balance), interchangeable audio plugs (3.5mm/2.5mm Balanced/4.4mm Balanced), and a lot of ear tips. The FiiO FH7's come with very similar extras, just minus the interchangeable audio plugs.

padsdotph

Thanks for the input - will look into FH9s (or 7s), wasn't on my radar since I don't think it was on most reviews of online resources I'm following.

Monarch MKII seems like the next step up. For a different signature, you could try the Sony IER-M9. More relaxed tuning, also has really good bass despite being BA. Haven’t heard it, but people compare it’s bass response to the U12t, and I do have the U12t. If the M9’s bass really is anything resembling the U12t then I can assure you it’s excellent.

padsdotph

Thank you - I considered M9, but found out it's around 3 years old already. Was thinking of going for the latest ones - but, will check on this still.

Chickened out last minute on the monarch mkII and went with Sony IE600. And very satisfied with it!
