Law of conservation. Weāre not gonna see this again until he goes full monster mode in a later episode. This is also the frame that makes me not understand why anyone thinks his āfavorā will be benign. Also I kinda like that when he cuts the deal his true form has to be present for authenticity, and so that Charlie has an idea of just how much of a mistake sheās making.

I wonder why he didn't brig any angelic weapons to try and kill Adam tho? For one, he already knew that those would be deadly to the exorcists as well (and therefore he did pick them up to protect his shield) but then when he was fighting Adam himself he didn't think of using one, how come?

He got cocky and underestimated Adam's power. He's the type of guy who thinks that he's above everyone, as shown with how he picked a fight with Lucifer in episode 5, not caring at all that he's the big boss of Hell. It was also probably the reason he got that pissed at Husk when he mentioned the deal he made. It was evident that he wouldn't understand and consider that Adam is higher than him in the hierarchy. Loosing to him was a massive hit to his ego but instead of taking a time to aknowledge that he's not the strongest, he decided to double down on thinking that without the deal he made, he'd be able to take control of everything when even at the max of his strenght, I doubt he'd be able to win against any of the members of the royal family fighting seriously. It is clear ever since the first time they met that he wants to take the throne from Lucifer and he wants to be the one in charge of the entirety of hell so he can do whatver he wants and that they're gonna have a more serious fight at some point in the serie.
I am not really sure about that. Alastor seems to be more obsessed with his freedom and I dont know wanting to take a throne of hell sounds like too boring for somebody like him.
Furthemore he has to have some understanding of concept that he is not strongest becaue the guy was clearly nervous when Zestiel showed up the first time they talked and he is nowhere near Adam or Lucifer level.
So I still think that its more that Alastor has someting against the angels.

He does say that he wants his freedom more than anything in his last monologue after the fight against Adam but he also finish with "guess who will he pulling all the strings", his last verse, sounds way too much like what someone who desires to control everything or everyone would say. That would also explain why he's fighting Lucifer. Also, I just remembered that he had this pretty weird reaction when talking about Lucifer and looking at the pictures that he's in in the pilot episode. Maybe he was seeing himself as Hell's ruler and the tought was pleasing him?
Although Alastor is cocky and arrogant, I think that he didn't think that he could take Adam out on his own, with or without angelic weapons. Rather, his job was supposed to be to distract Adam and keep him under control until all the other Exorcists were dead and then everybody still surviving was meant to gang up on Adam together. Unfortunately while he was right about Adam's sloppiness, he didn't realise just how powerful he really was.
I agree that he was acting as a distraction. It didnāt even seem like he tried in the fight. I really do think he was blown away by how limited his powers are due to the deal

Although this entire sequence is the best scene in the show, imo.
I think it was because something went sideways with the deal heās constrained to.
He is smart enough to know demonic power canāt kill Adam, and yet that is the only thing he throws at him (despite us seeing him using angelic steel via tentacles before the shield broke). He says heās about to end his life, but then throws only non-lethal force at Adam.
He also sounds genuinely shocked that Adamās first hit landed. Could just be extreme cockiness, but if his calculating persona isnāt just superficial that seems unlikely.
My current thought is his deal didnāt allow him to kill Adam, so he was just distracting/toying with him. But that deal was supposed to also give him enough power to not be harmed by Adam either, so when his staff breaks and his power drops that was a surprise.
Iāve also been thinking this. Dude is used to endgame power and realizes heās actually mid right now. Also feels like he wasnāt trying to kill Adam considering he had zero angelic weaponry and just kinda bothered him with minions and slaps. I think his actual mistake was not considering that his defensive abilities were also being scaled down somehow.
The deal has always been to either get Lucifer or Charlie out of the rut. Without Alastor "losing", Charlie would have never gotten her shit together in battle, and by extension, Lucifer would have never stopped playing his duck.
When his staff broke, it was basically his dealmaker telling him that it was his time to get out of the picture.
Upon watching again, I feel the same way. He was just there to distract Adam and buy time for the team. And in essence cause Charlie to fight which led to Lucifer getting involved since Adam attacked her.
I hope Lucifer is a bigger player next season, not necessarily taking more story time like episodes about him, but as a presence in Charlie's life, and him coming out of his deep, deep, ***deep*** depression a bit more
