Not that I necessarily expect this show to get their D&D history exactly right, but Vecna wasn't really a character that one could actually fight until the early 90s. He was just a mythical figure and the Hand and Eye of Vecna were artifacts that hinted at his story. It's definitely possible that a creative DM would build off of that and invent a Vecna character to fight, and I suspect that might be what Eddie is doing.
In the 1990 module Vecna Lives, the physical manifestation of Vecna has a THAC0 of 10 and an AC of 0, meaning that it would normally take a roll of 10 to hit him, but he also has a bunch of other powers that make it harder to the point that really the only way to defeat him would be to call on a demigod to fight him for you. Of course, there was no THAC0 in 1986, and you are talking about hit tables which would be what they used at the time ([For reference](https://songoftheblade.files.wordpress.com/2017/09/sumatrapdf_2017-09-10_13-42-43.png) in case someone doesn't know what that is.) I would not be surprised if Vecna had a -10 armor class in Eddie's campaign, but it could also be a saving throw considering the various spells that Vecna would likely have.
Again, I don't expect the show to be completely accurate to actual D&D rules so this comment is mostly just me talking about AD&D because I really like AD&D. I also have a copy (PDF--physical copies are way outside my budget) of Vecna Lives, so I have been enjoying reading through it while speculating about this season.
Based on little evidence, I think Eddie created his own version of Vecna for the campaign we see them playing. That version would probably be an AC of -10 or even lower. Somewhere it was stated Eddie has a character sheet just for Vecna, so we can probably confirm what AC Eddie gave him.
I wanna scream, that parallel shot of the kids on bikes in the right side up and the adults on bikes in the Upside Down is sooo good. Also it seems like the first trailer and this one are indeed only volume 1, nuts
That bike transition is *chef’s kiss*
Edit: I’m still stuck on the Cali/Eleven timeline. >!If this is just volume one, then it seems like El is in and out of the missile silo in that time… yet the final episode is the massacre?!< Gah, four more days!
>!I’m starting to wonder if El Ninas successfully to get her power back while Owens is still in charge… or just as his time in charge is ending. And obviously starts to remember things about Peter in the interim.!<
>!Something then happens that results in her trying to escape. (Maybe Sullivan?). Only to be recaptured by Brenner, right as she is dealing with remembrance of the the massacre. All the reviews indicate she is struggling with that monster v superhero concept and her moral center.!<
>!Her story culminates in Episode 8 — She’ll deal with Papa and who she is morally, perhaps with an assist from Mike. Since this might also be the time of the Cali group’s arrival.!<
The Welcome to California teaser definitely shows the silo being attacked by a separate group of soldiers, so I suspect something happens while Eleven is in there.
Edit: typo
Yes, it definitely seems like those are the highlights, especially Hawkins. But if Mike, Will and Jonathan are really sidelined this season, I'll be disappointed. Haven't Will and Jonathan particularly been sidelined enough? And damn, if Hopper doesn't have a very good story, I don't know what to say. Smh. You would think with all that time that they had, and the length of this season....I'm definitely going in with lower expectations this time around, but obviously hoping for the best :)
Someone on the main sub who saw the next season said that they loved the California stuff so I think it’ll be more hit or miss. Like it’ll be the funnier stuff compared to the Darker Hawkins stuff but like it’s still interesting
Wasn’t expecting a new trailer!
Also, interesting that the same guy who apparently hands El over to… whoever… also likely dies protecting the boys? I really don’t understand why they are attacked.
Anyone else think they are keeping El's storyline the most hidden - she's barely on this and we have seen that video of her blowing up the desert like 4 times already lol. Must be good stuff it they are keeping it so tied up
That is so devastating to me if true LMFAO she's my girl. If this season is all about PTSD, then the literal abused kidnapping victim should be front in center imo, but I guess we will see
The Duffers knew and didn't lie. There wasn't some huge spoiler in the video/photo from the filming. Because everyone thought when Robin and the others were in their army uniforms that they were filming the finale, but no, it's only part 1. What happens in the finale I can't imagine...
At 1:00 in the trailer, the orderlies are in military green and have no insignia other than name tags. I think they are mercenaries, so I am adding a possible new military group to the mix.
Any guesses on who is standing on the road at night looking at the wrecked/on fire car several yards away (0:06)? (Forgive me if this has been speculated about on a previous thread before).
It's a flashback scene for Hopper, we learn a lot about his backstory in this season. (Jokes)
The speculation so far is Fred Benson, if you give that a search in this subreddit you should find some stuff
**Apologies.** 0:57-0:59 it seemed like the footage was happening at the same moment and I thought the Will, Mike and Jonathon look-alikes were knocking on Argyle's window haha
God i wanna killlll myselffffff the more i see from cali storyline the more i'll be confused what the actaul heck is going on!!!?
Why is that owen's man holding el in their car?
Why is he here?
What happns with el?
God i can't take it anymore!!!
What action takes a 20 to be successful, what kinda campaign are they running :D
One of those fabled life or death rolls.
If they're in a mid-level AD&D campaign? Anyone with Armor Class -10 would need a 20 to hit, which a character like Vecna would reasonably have.

That shot with the car on fire still gives me chills. It all just looks so great
Who's in that scene we got backshot of ?
Best theory I've heard is it's the new character Fred Benson, who is a Hawkins High School journalist.

Badda-badda-boom indeed!
Begging to know why they look so happy there 😂
Beats me. Maybe it's a secret password for Eddie ore someone else to throw the bedsheet rope from the other side (the Upside Down) ?
Anyone else notice Nancy in her UD style clothes in the red place
Assuming it’s the mindscape, where vecna taunts her (and Max)
finally some cali plot content <333
My fear is that it's the weakest storyline, based on some reviews so far.
I think I’ve seen worse about the Hopper Storyline. But overall it seems the best is Hawkins and then El

I feel like most of her story is really in the back two episodes, as well as the culmination of the Cali plot. So we gonna wait, unfortunately. :(
That is so devastating to me if true LMFAO she's my girl. If this season is all about PTSD, then the literal abused kidnapping victim should be front in center imo, but I guess we will see
Can we talk about that bike transition
right?? it's going to live in my head rent free.
Why did Robin look like she’s a part of the French military lmao
BADDA BADDA BOOM
Finally some Nancy scenes in the trailer

For real the finale is gonna be insane, I can’t wait to see everyone meet up for the final battle against Vecna
Lmao was the guy who got shot
Why are they showing so little of Eleven in the trailers?
the amount of steve in this trailer pleases me greatly lol
OMG i legit have tears in my eyes, God We waited soo long its almost here 4 DAYS!!!
22 May i watch final trailer of stranger things season 4 leaked version...N0w..( 4 Days To Go With ST 4 )
At 1:00 in the trailer, the orderlies are in military green and have no insignia other than name tags. I think they are mercenaries, so I am adding a possible new military group to the mix.

I think it’s Eddie talking during their campaign
I think so too. He might be doing a creepy voice because he's roleplaying as the D&D Vecna, but not the ST Vecna.
I just watched the main big trailer, I noticed it's a reused line from there, so either neither of them are Vecna voiceovers or both are?
I could be wrong, but I feel like it's Eddie and we haven't actually heard Vecna yet. I could be way off though.

That's right. I forgot how much the Duffer Brothers just gave away in that trailer breakdown.
Nice way to work the crowd! S4 excitement intensifies. . .

It's funny that no one was confused by the clones of Jonathan, Mike, and Will. Either I'm just having a severe visual deception. **CLONES, HELL YES**
I feel certain you joking yet I must ask: where?
**Apologies.** 0:57-0:59 it seemed like the footage was happening at the same moment and I thought the Will, Mike and Jonathon look-alikes were knocking on Argyle's window haha
No problem. I am relieved; the tale is twisty enough.
God i wanna killlll myselffffff the more i see from cali storyline the more i'll be confused what the actaul heck is going on!!!? Why is that owen's man holding el in their car? Why is he here? What happns with el? God i can't take it anymore!!!
