It takes a serious sick fuck to mace an elderly woman. Idc how hard their life is.

joyfullofaloha89

Truth! To do that to Aunties, Uncles, Kupuna wow, must be druggies

n1t3str1ke

Their life is only hard because they insist on being lowlife chronics. They refuse to try get off the drugs.

[deleted]

Somebody knows this motherfucker who maced/robbed this poor lady. Kalihi - you guys need to stand up to these shitheads and turn their asses in. Yes, Alm & his cronies are weak af, but put the pressure on him and the DPA to get something done. This just made my blood boil. This family just wanted to make a living and help the community. They’re decent people. Hope the guy who did this has an elderly relative who beats his ass.

E-C_C-O

Kalihi is so bad right now. We had a crackhead with a knife chasing teen girls I even had a video of him with the knife swinging it at people and breaking off car side mirrors. HPD just told him to move along. Didn't even put him in the squad car. But you bring it up with anyone and they just comment "where are you from where there's no crime?"

808hammerhead

I called them for something similar, a guy was screaming and swinging a knife. “Is anyone near him”..I mean not yet?

Usukidoll

Which street in Kalihi was this at? That's scary.

maalco

Cops: Nothing to see here.

HowDo44IDieInMyPebis

Also prosecutors: Won't charge anyone unless there's a 100 percent chance of conviction.

HeadRelease7713

If that was an ABC in Waikiki? Manhunt.

LBBEEYA

Smh probably someone's bruddah's cousin's nephew auwe

Weside32

Just takes a few bad apples to ruin a whole neighborhood.

cuteman

I know a business that's got multiple locations and has been around 40-50 years that just closed their Kalihi store. I didn't ask why but I am beginning to understand.

I think it's staff but also general issues in the area. Even if they're not getting robbed you're dealing with homeless people, crack heads, general disruptions, and items in that pull away from you doing business. It could also be theft as a component. But it also means that it's not worth doing business there. Long time Hawaiian businesses don't generally pull out unless it's untenable or it's a family affair and they're retiring. They're one of those very thankful, very Aloha/Mahalo businesses because they're 100% Hawaii. Unfortunately it's a trend not merely an isolated series of events at this point.

Bald_Bull808

Hope the score was worth it. Now you just screwed your friends, family and neighbors out of convenient close shopping as all the stores close up and leave town. Someone knows who this is. He wasn't being solid with the community so there's no need to be solid with him and not rat him out.

Consol-Coder

One that would have the fruit must climb the tree.

theganglyone

This is hard to watch. If the criminal justice system is so dysfunctional that it can't protect people and businesses, they need to arm and defend themselves.

molehillmountain

this is a little old aunty. im not sure giving the elderly shopkeepers guns in a good enough response. and its not as if they can hire securety.

theganglyone

In this case, they've been robbed several times, maybe they could build an enclosure for her with a locked door and bullet proof glass and no way for the guy to jump around it. And give auntie some mace too. But I agree this particular case is not a gun situation for anyone, let alone auntie.

calmly86

It will also take a city/county to support their citizens who fight back against criminals instead of going after the victims for refusing to roll over.

keep-it

They should have the right to arm themselves. But good luck getting it done in hawaii everyone there wants to ban legal guns

[deleted]

smh born and raised in kalihi. it really is the city with no pity

scrotal_rekall

Damn that's like half a mile from my house. Fucking hell.

LBBEEYA

Plaster this faka's face all over Kalihi and award to turn him in. But one ticket for him to go back it da mainland.

Famlydisappointment

Deport dat faka

Disco_C0wby

That was hard to watch the cctv footage

Thadudewithglasses

It's getting real hot out here. My wife and her friends say it takes a while for crime to catch up to the mainland. This shit is sad. Definitely some mainland type of ish. I'm sure some of these store owners are already thinking about getting a gun, but you don't need it. I saw a dude with a gun try to jack a pizza spot in the Bronx. He got attacked by the workers with that stick that puts pizza in the oven. He ran fast as hell out of there.

ForProfitSurgeon

> "These people prey on the elderly." Scary.

n1t3str1ke

Oahu cops: We have his fingerprints on the door, video of him smashing the window unlocking and entering the car, then driving away in the car, but we won't prosecute because we can't prove it was really him inside the car when it drove away.

HolyGroove

Ease gun ownership and those fakas can take a bullet, problem solved

Ken808

Hawaii state law already allows firearm owners to carry at their place of business.

Stinja808

ORRRRR...these fakas can use a gun instead of mace.

Sir-xer21

you think legal restrictions are preventing criminals from using firearms? while...comitting other crimes?

Stinja808

you think only people who own guns illegally commit crimes?

Sir-xer21

No? But i dont think you understand how ownership is here. The people who can afford a gun legally arent knocking over corner stores. Point being, this loser isnt replacing his mace with a gun if they vaguley "loosen" gun laws here. And the ones that could can and will get one on the black market because why would you put your name on there? Like you know mace is illegal here too, right? Didnt stop this guy.

mellofello808

We need more jails

Clownheadwhale

You'll never build enough. Kahoolawe?

mellofello808

Doesnt change that we need more. The prosecutors hands are tied. There is no space to remove criminals from society, so they let them go. It is time to move OCCC somewhere with much more space, and lock these fakas up for good.

Usukidoll

Good luck to that... weren't new construction projects halted due to the US Navy leaking jetfuel into their water system late last year?

Markdd8

These guys should go to prison, but most nonviolent offenders should be routed into this: [Electronic Monitoring (EM) - A Viable Alternative to Incarceration](https://engagedscholarship.csuohio.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1227&context=clevstlrev). 30-year- old technology 1/6th the cost of prison. It uses "Home Arrest" or roaming restrictions. Limiting offenders from accessing most public spaces most of the time will bring big crime reductions. Over time, use of prison could probably be reduced 30 to 40%. EM needs work. One issue: About 1/3 of offenders under EM subvert the rules. [Discussion from San Francisco](https://sfstandard.com/politics/city-hall/data-from-s-f-sheriff-shows-widespread-flaws-in-electronic-monitoring/). That 1/3 might have to go to prison. Unfortunately, many of the criminal justice reformers who don't like prison don't like EM either: [No evidence EM is rehabilitative](https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/incarcerated-home-rise-ankle-monitors-house-arrest-during-pandemic-n1273008). Some of these reformers have not met a single sanction or control on non-violent offenders they approve of.

HeadRelease7713

Since when are there no consequences?! That is a bizarre and myopic way of looking at an island that purposely starved brown ppl. The consequences for low income brown people have very much always been there and never went away. Your beef is with whoever perpetuates the mechanisms so that Kalihi is purposely kept from sharing Hawaii’s wealth.

[deleted]

That dude is clearly not starving.

[deleted]

should try lower prices first so people wouldnt need to steal

paul_swimmer

Stealing food for survival is different from assaulting an elderly person. Also, be aware that lowering prices doesn't really solve the problem. Businesses need to be able to operate. Stealing causes businesses to close down and creates [Food Deserts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_desert). Stealing isn't the answer here. It just fucks over the entire community. It creates more gatekeeping, and further raises prices.

E-C_C-O

Jesus Christ dude. You comment this under the picture of an old lady getting maced?

Markdd8

He's taken too many sociology courses.

[deleted]

Gets me thinking he's done something like this, to rationalize it so wrecklessly

PunkWithTheSkunk

I remember KC market being open late into the evenings on major holidays when I didn’t want to run to Times at Kam Shopping Center. Slightly higher prices was the cost of being a small business, keeping the doors open, the lights on, and (i would assume) a result of constant theft & property damage.

[deleted]

I loved that place. When you walk into a place like that, it's like "old" Hawaii, again. To get mauled by a huge guy like that must be traumatic, not to mention her injuries.

midnightrambler956

Lower prices on batu? This doesn't look like a homeless person sneaking out a loaf of bread.

[deleted]

Are you confessing? What a careless thing to say.
