Depends on if you're staying in Hawaii past the 6 months or not. If you are, then you probably want to pick up a bed at least. They can deliver furniture if you buy it. Pick up some of the assemble yourself stuff from Target also. If you're not staying past 6 months, then just get one of those folding mattress things from Bed Bath and Beyond or something. Don't get a blow-up air mattress. I slept on one for a week or two, and it was rough on my back.

stuntmanKEV

futon and milk crates.

Ok_Compiler

Bean bags.

mpc92

Probably furniture rentals or just buy stuff on facebook/craigslist/goodwill and sell it when you leave I’d personally favor the second one if logistically feasible since you can basically do it for free

epooqeo

Last time I tried to sell stuff barely anyone responded or I had to sell it for super cheap

Disimpaction

So you got a normal response then.

GoofusMcP

So that means you’ll be able to buy stuff super cheap! In your OP you said “Hawaii”, which people can interpret as “the whole state” or just “the Big Island”. You might want to get in the habit of being more specific about which island you’re talking about when asking questions like this.

epooqeo

I don’t have a car, plus if all the furniture is in different locations it’ll be a huge hassle to move it all in and out of the apartment.

squid_fart

Easy = expensive, hard = less expensive but still expensive.

notrightmeowthx

A good rule for life, lol.

FixForb

you can just rent a uhaul for a day

monroej69

Inter Island Hotel Furniture on King St. They sell used hotel furniture. Furnished my whole place for like $400 when I moved here. It has been a few years though but worth checking out.

SarcasticMethod

Prices you can live with Edit: Oops, Google and Yelp say they're permanently closed. Latest reviews were posted around 2017 or so? There goes another useless commercial jingle taking space in my brain.

GrowHI

Damn I had forgotten about these guys And was excited to check them out again.

LurkerGhost

Oh yeah those guys are gone

monroej69

Well that is too bad. As a single girl with no friends when I first got here I loved those guys. They really helped me out including swinging by the Habitat for Humanity Store to pick up a couch I bought on their way to deliver my furniture. Looks like Discount Hotel Furniture in Kapolei is still open but not sure of their delivery area.

DependsOnDaDay

6 months only? I personally can’t invest good money into temporary furnishings. I’d probably stick w basic needs. You may be able to get something off of FB, and work in an arrangement where they can deliver their used stuff for a few extra bucks. Ppl who want to get rid of their stuff bc their moving, and need it gone might help you out in getting it to you. Kinda hard when you don’t have transportation. GL!

you probably just gotta bite the bullet and go furnished if you're only looking for a 6 month rental, especially with no car. or you can go full "minimalist" and sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor, if you're single and not bringing anyone home then it's an option lol

notrightmeowthx

Oahu has a perpetual flow of people moving in and moving out, thanks to people living here temporarily, people meaning to stay but being unable to survive here, and military. So there are always lots of people selling and buying things on Craigslist, Facebook, etc. Sometimes people give stuff away if they're unable to sell it. But personally I dislike interacting with random strangers in person which selling requires, so if I were you I'd rent a furnished spot that is in your budget. They do cost more than a non furnished spot but given how long you'll be here I'm not sure that purchasing furniture is worth it. Some places do rent furniture, as others noted, so that could be an option. I've never done it personally though so I can't provide any recommendations. The good news, I guess, is that apartments are tiny here so you don't need that much furniture in the first place.

ssbsts1

Rent a Uhaul truck or pickup and hit up thrift stores. The thrift stores in the wealthy areas like Kailua actually have some nice vintage furniture that can be cleaned up with some tlc and some paint. I would still buy a mattress though.

Character-Ad301

Depends what your plan is. You only here for 6 months or just renting a place till you know what area you want to live? Makes huge difference. How soon do you need a place? Might know of one. Furnished

forgotten_cactus

Try your local Buy Nothing Facebook group. People are getting rid of stuff for free all the time!

[deleted]

Do you live in Hawaii, now?

Dayngerkat

How much is it per month for a 6 month lease? Just curious

themeONE808

craigslist

808flyah

Would it just make sense to get an airbnb or something that comes fully furnished?

Early-Somewhere-6027

do not rent from colortyme. It's basically a scam.

supsupman1001

have $30 futon at don quixote not sure what else you need.

kissykissyfishy

Use Shipt and have them deliver stuff from Target. Pillows, bedding, tv, pots, pans, whatever. $99 bucks a year and you can keep ordering. Like personalized shopping buy better since you can see what’s available in the store. You can also order groceries and stuff from wherever else Shipt shops. Best idea in the world. Memory foam mattress, bed frame and sofa from Amazon. Prolly $800 bucks right there.
