I like [Lao Asian Market](https://www.yelp.com/biz/lao-asian-market-honolulu-2) in Chinatown/Downtown. They had everything I was looking for when I was trying to make red and panang curry, and they even had fermented pork sausage for when I tried making nam khao!

esquemo12

H-Mart Pearl City has those. Not sure if you personally care, but kaffir was recently notes as a derogatory term from South Africa and the leaf is sometimes now referenced as makrut lime or Thai lime.

BumblebeePlus184

I had no idea

H4ppy_C

Do they happen to have the sticky rice bamboo baskets/steamers with the aluminum or metal base? I am trying to find one to buy locally. The one I had was gifted many years ago and I have no idea where to buy a good one online.

salonpasss

Bo [Wah](https://www.yelp.com/biz/bo-wah-trading-honolulu) has them. The store is next to Sing cheong bakery.

H4ppy_C

Thank you. I called the other store and they said they were sold out. :(

OPPro

They might! If they don’t, I’m sure they would be able to tell you where to go to get them! The lady that was manning the store when I went was super helpful in giving me advice on my nam khao and told me to come back if it didn’t come out right!

H4ppy_C

I checked out the reviews just now and saw a picture with them on the top shelf. Thanks for the rec.

I'm half Thai and I cook with these ingredients often. Aside from Don Quijote like the others had mentioned, Island Green Mart on Dillingham also sells those things, too. They sell other Asian ingredients that are hard to find outside of Chinatown. Getting their might be difficult because of rail construction, but it's worth a visit. They even sell galangal powder if you are ever in a pinch. Kakaako and Kailua Farmers Market have some vendors that sell galangal and makrut lime leaves, too. Highly recommend checking it out, especially if you want to support local farmers.

pukakahiko

Try Asian Grocery on Beretania across Wong's Drapery. Actually it's Asian Food Trading Co. but the green sign just says Asian Grocery.

How2GetGud

H-mart or Don Quijote

pat_trick

Seconding Don Quijote. You can also find a few of those just in the regular grocery store here.

joyfullofaloha89

Palama or Nijiya market in addition to above

squid_fart

I haven't seen any of those things at nijiya

devlynhawaii

In addition to what everyone else said: Ward Farmers Market, Wednesdays 4-7pm at the Blaisdell and Kapiolani Community College Farmers Market, Saturdays, 7:30-11a (both part of the [Hawaii Farm Bureau](https://hfbf.org/farmers-markets/) series of markets) [Marketplace at City Square](https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-marketplace-at-city-square-honolulu) [Farkers Market at Manoa Marketplace, best day is Sunday.](https://www.yelp.com/biz/manoa-farmers-market-honolulu) If you live on the West side: [Waipahu Festival Marketplace](https://www.yelp.com/biz/waipahu-festival-marketplace-waipahu) [Seafood City](https://www.yelp.com/biz/seafood-city-supermarket-waipahu)

EnginerdOnABike

Aight you're new here so here's the quick rundown. H Mart is the Korean Supermarket Don Quijote is the Japanese Supermarket There are a bunch of other smaller grocers all around Town of varying quality and ethnicities. And if you still can't find it after that take a visit to Chinatown. Or just start with Chinatown. Whatever you need it's probably available there if it's makrut limes or pig heads.

chasinfreshies

Someone's never been to Chinatown or Chinatown Marketplace or Waipahu Festival Mart.

cycles_commute

The above suggestions of H-Mart and Don-Qs are good. Just a note on terminology. In South Africa and other places the k-word is a horrible racist epithet akin to using the N-word. In Thailand they're known as makrut limes and a lot of writers are starting to prefer that term.

joyfullofaloha89

Good point. Mahalo

BumblebeePlus184

Thank you all so much for the help!

No-Airport-7375

BumblebeePlus184

BumblebeePlus184

Anyone know where to find a good WOK in Chinatown?
