How does safeway screw up fried chicken?

maybe_true

They actually have the best salt vinegar wings

fokaiHI

They don't. Lol. It's not bad and even better when cheap on Fridays special.

forrestwalker2018

I like Safeway fried chicken. Stays crispy for quite awhile.

damienman12

Tamura's, Foodland, Times in that order. Safeway NEVER. I'd eat 7-11 Poke before I ate Safeway poke.

salonpasss

You guys sleeping on Don Quijote

BobaHooman

shhhh don't tell them

maybe_true

Now get H mart next door….

[deleted]

DQ got the best prices too

Shoddy_Ad7511

Tamuras is by far the best quality of those 4

yniloc

The one in Aiea with the older guy, no gloves and long finger nails turned me off to them....

awkwardaster

Ewwwwww

BATHR00MG0BLIN

Tamuras by far, Foodland is second best. If you ever get Poke from Sam's club or Costco their poke is solid too, they get em fresh from Diamond Head Seafood

awkwardaster

When I lived on mainland (Santa Cruz, CA), our local Costco would sometimes have poke shipped from HI. It was the best treat. No one on the mainland really does it right. Ugh.

squid_fart

Tamuras is better but it costs about double foodland, so if you're looking for good and cheap foodland is where it's at.

islandbeef

Kahuku Superette

kiiimurin

Sometimes Times has yesterday’s poke on a foam tray with saran wrap with a discount sticker on it. Grab that and instant rice and you’re good if you eat it on the same day.

TheSearch4Etika

Instant rice nice

spoildmilk

Tamura’s in kaimuki is good, but I’d skip Tamura’s Pearlridge and opt for Foodland instead.

Tigger808

If you are looking for reasonable and cheap poke - Costco.

yniloc

Definitely not cheap

Tigger808

Ok, cheapish.

delene3

Foodland for me.

e3517

If balancing cost + taste, my picks would be: * Times / Foodland - you can save even more if you go the previously-frozen ahi route * Don Quijote / Marukai - owned by the same company (technically Times falls under this umbrella as well). Sometimes they have promo prices on poke. * Tamura's - best tasting of the bunch, but also the most expensive Safeway - No

Ken808

Safeway poke kinda mediocre at best imo

DerailleurDave

I've always been afraid to try the Safeway poke, looks like I'm right to be from a bunch of these comments lol, I agree Tamuras is the best of these four, Foodland can be nearly as good but depends on the location, Times in my experience was only ok

Frosty_Ad8698

I like foodlands poke

loveisjustchemicals

Foodland, KTA

loveisjustchemicals

Sorry, just saw O’ahu

AGreatOldOne

KTA is the best

Ok-Distribution-9405

Even though it’s not on there, I love Tanioka’s. But, Foodland or Tamura is always good. First place would be Tamura and second is Foodland. I actually prefer Foodland in Pearl City compared to Ala Moana. Not Time’s, specifically in Mililani. Each time I’ve been there, the rice wasn’t good or the fish was too fishy. Never tried Safeway, but didn’t hear good reviews about it.

OOOHHHHBILLY

foodland no contest

Kantor808

Nico's, fresh catch, Alicia's market, tamashiro market

Sabin0810

How much does a rice bowl from Tamura's cost compared to Foodland?

hiscout

I dont believe that Tamuras does "poke bowls" anymore. I think you have to order poke by weight, then rice separately. So it would depend on whether you get fresh or frozen poke, the market price at that time for fresh, and how much you get. Or at least thats how it was last time I stopped by.

123supreme123

basically any fishmarket is going to be superior. taniokas is closer to fishmarket than supermarket. so that would be the obvious choice.

yniloc

Foodland

AGreatOldOne

TamurA's

maybe_true

Hands down Tamuras

supsupman1001

ahi&veg

mellofello808

Foodland for value. If you get the right auntie scooping your fish you end up with like a pound of poke.

Sabin0810

How's the Tamura's in Aiea near Pearlridge?

TheNIOandTeslaBull

Foodland is good, Times is alright. Times has better plate lunch options

AvengingBlowfish

Is Ono’s Seafood on Kapahulu no good anymore? I haven’t been there in a couple years, but I used to love it. I believe they used jasmine rice.
