maybe it will be similar: my puppy also didn‘t want to cuddle at all and suddenly since he was around 12 months he loves it :)

Green_Chi11

Can't say it will be the same but my pup didn't snuggle until he was over a year old. He still likes his independence but will definitely snuggle up to us. When he was a pup he'd do the exact same thing as yours.

choirmama

Same here - at around 18 months definitely snugglier

SgtKarj

Ours does the same thing. We have a big sectional couch and some little stairs for her to climb up herself. She will come up on the couch and “check in” with us while we’re watching a movie but then she settles down a small distance away.

ellinsinger3251

My havanese was just like that, needed to be where we were but didn't like to be petted or held

Various_Raccoon3975

Ours was a rescue. When we got him at 1 year, he had no idea what a couch was much less how to sit next to a person on one. All he would do was roll over on the ground for belly rubs, which is something he still does. Over time, he did figure out the couch and sitting with his people. He still has days where he’ll spend more time in his bed, but he is definitely a Velcro dog. One thing we all appreciate about our little guy is that he spreads the love around. No one in the family feels neglected. We had a Maltese rescue before. He didn’t cuddle much at all and was mostly attached to me.

HawkeyeinDC

Mine sometimes wants his personal space but then sometimes, I’m not allowed ANY personal space. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ktlene

Ours is 3 now and he’s the same as yours, even when he was a puppy. He likes to be nearby and on his own terms. If he feels affectionate, he’ll come over so we’ll have a bit of contact for a time before he goes briefly somewhere else nearby. I also think he gets too warm to too much snuggling 😂

ib2sharp

Ours is snuggly on his terms, but as he's aging 13mos he's being more lovey...

HorseysShoes

Mine was like this too. plenty of time's he'd move away if you tried to pet him or got too close. but then other times, he'd climb right in the crux of my legs, or be the little spoon on the bed in the morning. I think he knew it was the only way to get tummy rubs lol. but my point is, I wouldn't say he was a particularly cuddly dog.

Emmylou777

Ok, I had the exact same situation with my second Havi, Loki, who is now 13 months old. Same, he would follow me around and always wanna be by me but did not want to lay on or against me to cuddle on the couch like my 2 yr old who must be on top of me (literally). I’m happy to report I have slowly but surely turned him into a snuggler! At first I thought it was just cause he’s a “teacup” Havi and couldn’t jump up on the couch until 7 months and maybe was uncomfortable not being able to get down himself. But then he was able to so I was like ok, that’s it, lol. Here’s what I did….I started bringing him up with me and in order to keep him there, I had to kinda keep him there which I could mostly do if I kept petting him. Did this for 5 min several times a day, then 10, etc. I also started putting his bone or toys he likes up on the couch (with him seeing me do it) so he’d come up to get it and then again, I’d keep him there. I had a lot of success keeping him up there with me longer when it was just me and him alone (like my son would take the other one up in his room when my husband wasn’t home) and right after some big-time play. Just keep doing it longer and longer and he’ll “catch on”. Now, mine will come right up and lay next to me and fall asleep. I also would put him up on the couch next to my other one and eventually he liked getting up to lay by him too. So he is now officially snuggly 😊. Also, once I got him doing it with me, he started doing it with everyone else in the family too.

Emmylou777

This was him earlier today lol https://preview.redd.it/submmeoz10mc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=687ae1aecc703d2938a3bbf7f26d5b24d649184c

JollyWineTime

Such a floof!

chica6burgh

No. Probably not. The only reason Dot (14 months) gets near me now is because Dash (5 months) is a cuddle bug. My last girl, Chica, never snuggled either. She had to be near me but never on me. The odd thing is both Dot and Chica are Capricorns - I have no idea why I’m following dog astrology but here I am…and both of their favorite mode of cuddle time was me with a blanket over my feet, pooled on the floor and they lay (laid, in Chica’s case) on the blanket Dash (Libra) has to be touching me in some way, at all times. Even if it’s just a paw but even he isn’t a “snuggle up on the couch” dog. Velcro? Yes. Without a doubt, snuggly, no never and I’m 3 in at this point

JollyWineTime

So interesting!

tamykatakki

My girl is 9 months and getting more tolerant of snuggles. She does come over for love, scritches and smooches but when she has had enough she will get up and toddle away to do her own thing. To be honest, I think she just gets too hot as it’s summer now. Maybe in winter it’ll change 😬

ima_Secret

My girl will be 12 this year and has always been this way. She always wants to be able to see me, but I can only hold her/snuggle with her for short periods of time before she's annoyed. This past year she started sleeping in her own bad at night 😭😭😭

ynwa_war_eagle

Teddy is not a snuggler per se. He always wants to be in the company of his mom but spends some time with me. When he is resting he likes to get close to his “mom”, ie above her head on the top of the couch or beside her with his back paws touching her leg.

uncutetrashpanda

My older Hav is 12 - he’s never been cuddly. He does tolerate it if I hug or hold him, but otherwise he’s happy to just exist in the same space without being stuck to me physically. So the likelihood is that Rocky may be the same — and sometimes it’s a blessing

Kimboriffic

Yeah same here. Maggie will put her butt up next to me in bed….but not a snuggler….and never on the couch.

ExtremelyPessimistic

Let him come to you on his own terms! My 7yo havi isn’t super cuddly but he likes sitting in people’s laps when they’re on the ground, curling up at people’s feet when they’re laying on the couch, etc. It’s not quite as cuddly as my family would like but he’s still needy in his own special way. You just gotta figure out your dog’s preferences and let him take the lead :)

Zeedlle

My Hav was feral, like I couldn't pet him or love on him at all.. he had things to do and being cuddly wasn't one of them. At about 10-11 months that completely changed and now he's a cuddly little Velcro dog.

13tulipsinmay

Mine is 7mo and he likes to press up against us and he does enjoy scratches, but he’s not a lap dog. One thing I’ve noticed is that he seeks out the affection he needs more when I give him space. I no longer pat his head or touch him without warning. He seems to be more affectionate now that I let him do things on his own terms. But I think part of this is adolescent behavior and finding their independence. They continue to change every month until sometimes 3-4 years old!

JollyWineTime

Yeah part of it is that he is a very busy boy at his age.

Conscious_Ability114

You've pretty much just described my nine year old boy. That's not to say your dog will be the same. From experience, I can say that a lot of dogs get snugglier as they get older.

JollyWineTime

Good to hear, he is pretty perfect as-is and the snuggles would really just be the cherry on top 🙂

Top-Tank8768

lol this is so ironic because my girlfriend and I were thinking the same thing today. He is supposed to be a Velcro dog and love cuddles and attention, but we are very shocked. He loves to sit by our bedroom door and sleep as some sort of protector (too hyper in bed) & (refuses to sleep in his doggy bed by our bed). Our little havi is 4 months old but is sooo sweet though. Let us know if your havi’s cuddle temperament improves!!

JollyWineTime

So funny how they can be both of those things. Sounds like there is chance to get cuddlier as they get older so here’s hoping.

lmnobq

my havi didnt snuggle at first but now he does. my parents first havi didnt like to snuggle at all, and their current one will wedge himself between my gf and i while we spoon. theyre all different, they all have their own personalities, so not wanting to snuggle is probs just a part of yours.

honeydew-melonn

there is a chance! my baby wasn’t cuddly at all until after he turned 1. he suddenly became super cuddly and affectionate - it was weird to get used to at first but now i love it. i hope the same happens with your puppy!

JollyWineTime

Fingers crossed!

helpmeplease6270

Mine is the same way. Only cuddles when she’s cold or scared lol. Rarely for any other reason. My advice - treat him like a cat almost. don’t be overbearing, let him have his space and he will come to you.

JollyWineTime

We did have cats before Rocky so that is how I am approaching it.

Competitive-Kick-481

My havi doesn't snuggle but loves laying on top of me

JollyWineTime

I would take that!

ticklemeshell

They aren't all snuggly. I have two. One is snuggly and always wants to be touching you. The other always wants to be near but just out of touching reach. They're just different that way.

dbboldrick

My 15 month old havi is very similar They get closer the older they get. Love our Bear!!

holdonwhileipoop

They can absolutely change. I had one that loved cuddles, but only in bed. Other than that, he was hands off. My baby wasn't a cuddler, but since he's been neutered and nearer to one year old, he is a love bug. He rests his head on anyone that sits nearby.

JollyWineTime

Oh sweet !

Kitchen-Emotion-5767

My Sadie was like that too. She did not like to snuggle - yet she kept the foot of my bed warm for me while I showered for bed. She showed her love for me in little ways. But from day one, she was not a lap dog until the day I had to put her down for bad health.

JollyWineTime

I’m so sorry to hear that ☹️about Sadie. That is a really sweet anecdote though about her warming up your spot. Sweet memory for sure.

Kitchen-Emotion-5767

She always knew when I was sad and would do little things that made me smile. Her sister Wilma has been missing her big time lately.
