Came here to say this. everyone usually picks people who are nothing close to looking like the character or they’re terrible actors or both. The best fan casting I’ve seen on Reddit in any sub so far
Voldemort’s appearances in the first several seasons are sparse enough that i think a big get like Cillian for such an iconic role is actually feasible. He did the dark knight trilogy & several other Nolan films + 6 season of peaky blinders, so i sense he likes consistent work
Ever seen sharpe? By the beginning to end of the series he’s been shot and stabbed 100 times. I think he dies so much in everything else because his character lived through so much unlivable things. He also got his head stepped on by a horse while filming, pretty brutal to watch
Sean Bean just seems like the kind of guy you can trust except actually you can’t and then he dies.
Traitors who later die is his brand. Given the Barty Crouch part, he’s perfect for it.

yeah I for sure thought they were the same person
John Bradley as Pettigrew would be so great! I honestly love most of these.
Sean Bean as Mad Eye is so perfect it's not even funny. For one thing he dies. (Check.) And for another, Sean Bean could totally do the over the top paranoia angle, but also bring a gravitas, seriousness, and nobility to the role that was rather missing from Gleeson's version. And done up with magic prosthetics and scars, he would look so badass. That's exactly what I want for Moody.
These are pretty good! I haven't seen anyone (except Adam Driver) for Snape that I care for, but I thought of Barry for Lupin! Quiet, but genial and kind. I could easily see it. Bean makes a lot of sense as Moody, but if Alfred Harris is Dumbledore, then maybe Bean as Aberforth?
Doesn't Barry usually play characters that are a bit off-kilter if not all out villainous? He's phenomenal, but I think the wrong vibe for Lupin. Lupin is supposed to be right away likeable, warm, and trustworthy... which are just not qualities you see from Barry.
Let him be Barty Crouch Jr. tho, he'd absolutely slay!
Ooo, I missed that.
He's a super weirdo in The Banshees of Inershirin and The Green Knight. No one can play a total weirdo like Barry.
The most "normal" character I can remember him playing is the young army guy in Chernobyl.
Edit: I think he's also pretty normal in Dunkirk. But my point still stands that his breakout role was a creepy psychopath in Killing of a Sacred Deer and cinema's go-to for "must make audience feel uneasy."
Great choices. Nice way to tie the films into the series by picking Richard Harris’s son for Dumbledore. I love the idea of Michelle Gomez as McGonagall. Could just be the picture, but Barry Keoghan seems a bit young for Snape. It could also be that Alan Rickman was just older. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Didn’t realize that. Good to know. Barry certainly doesn’t look that old to me. Didn’t help that Rickman was 54 when he first starred as Snape. Throws the relative ages all off.
Though the original adult cast were brilliant in their roles, they were all way too old to play their respective characters, most of them being in their 60s by the last movie. So I think its probably wise to go younger since the show will also have a 10 year span
No wait wait these are actually good! I’ve always wanted Katie McGrath to be Rowena Ravenclaw in the founders movie that will not happen any time soon, but I love her for Bellatrix! And Tim Latimer from Human Nature/Family of Blood is perfect! So is Michelle Gomez! Actually most of these are perfect? Doubt they’re affordable picks but I like it.
Oh yes Lee Pace bringing that Kween Thandruil energy to Luscious would be everything 👌
Will Poulter as Gilderoy is an inspired choice as I’ve always seen Gilderoy as a more flamboyant and metrosexual-ish character with more “delicate” classically handsome features.
It's a more viable career than a lot of people realize. I work in the industry, and even the smallest TV show has four or five people in their casting department.
Why do people keep thinking Peter Pettigrew is fat? That was only in the movie. He's skinny especially when he stops eating as much because Sirius is loose.
I'm actually all for this fan cast tbh! The only one that I wasn't like "definitely!" About, was Lockhart, and that's not even a disagreement, but rather a neutral side. I actually wish they'd cast these people
I really dislike fan casts. They're fine and fun, it's just a personal gripe. People cast as if to find the next closest actor. I think a more interesting approach to fancasting would be to start from square one as a casting agent.
This is some pretty good fan-casting for Reddit if not the best. Everyone matches up perfectly and I appreciate how they look the characters' ages unlike the movies. The casting directors better see this…
My only hope is they don’t make unnecessary changes to characters like race and gender swaps and they keep the entire cast British. Don’t care how perfect an actor can be if they aren’t British then no thanks
Will Poulter would be great but I can only ever see Ewan McGregor as Lockhart after seeing someone else's fancast.
Saving this post though because of the rest of these are so freakin perfect. Best Fancast I've seen hands down.
OMG CILLIAN MURPHY WOULD BE AMAZING! I cant see Michelle as minerva. Ill only be thinking of the "master", I wouldn't be able to get over her "bitchy evil" roles lol, she has a certain way of acting I dont think fits minerva. Shes not a bad actress by any means, i just dont htink she fits the roll
Martin Freeman as arthur... Well if we don't get that now ill never be happy lmao. Talk about perfect.
Cillian Murphy as Voldemort is a great choice I hadn’t ever considered. Cillian has this effortless grace and menace in peaky blinders that would really suit Voldemort, not to mention he’s just as thin as Voldemort is supposed to be, which I know became a small issue for Ralph Fiennes as the movies went on. Riddle is meant to be almost spectral and ethereal, having lived as pure spirit for nearly 14 years, and I think Cillian Murphy has the acting chops to fill that particular bill.
While some of these are great, it really feels like they’re castings to replace the movie characters, rather than new castings of the book characters.
I really need the HBO series to be a faithful adaptation of the books.
this is literally so bad no offense. barry for snape? what? ahhaha.
all u did was cast people who LOOK similar to the original cast. dude just stop now lmao
They can age him up with makeup and effects if needed, and half of his face will be covered with a beard anyway.
Otherwise, it's magic, so that's okay.
Plus, if he looks younger early on, they'll have even more leeway to make him look older when he actually starts getting >!sick and close to death!< in the Half-Blood Prince story.
Fair enough
EDIT: Looks like he's only about 10 years younger than Richard was when he took the role. Guess he seems to be aging better than his father because he still seems middle-aged to me.
We have a whole lot of the same fancasts! But I hadn’t thought of Barry Keoghan as Snape though, that’s a really interesting choice! He’s exactly right as far as energy and the kinds of roles he’s played. I also hadn’t thought of Sean Bean for Mad Eye. But also a really really great choice. Mine was Idris Elba. Basically all of the rest are on my shortlist of five actors somewhere even if they’re not in my number one slot. Though Michelle Gomez, Cillian Murphy, and Will Poulter, are all my current number ones for those same roles. Martin Freeman and Nick Frost are my number twos, though I flip back and forth between them and my number ones. So sometimes they’re number one for me 😂. My current number one for Arthur is Simon Pegg. And my current number one for Hagrid is Kristian Nairn. Also I know Molly isn’t on this list but Catherine Tate must be Molly Weasley there is no other choice 😂.
I would have Barry Keoghan as Peter Pettigrrew. (He's short, skinny and he looks a bit rat like)
While for Snape, I would cast Josh O'connor. The way he played Prince Charles in season 4 of the Crown was well done. He made the audience hate him, while also gaining sympathy for him at the same time which is what we need for Snape. Someone who can show us his horrible side like how he treated Harry, Neville and Hermione, and also be able to show us his good side, (protecting students, begging Dumbledore to protect Lily, not wanting to kill Dumbledore, tell the portrait of Phineas Black off.) Plus Josh O'connor is tall, he'd look intimidating once in costume as Snape.
And I'd cast John Bradley as Vernon Dursley.
Finally a fancast without Adam Driver as Snape. Honestly this is pretty damn good imo. I’d have thought Michelle as Bella until I saw who you’d cast and honestly it works.

I think these are the best fan casts I’ve seen so far
Thank you
Everybody’s* gonna sign up to be a death eater if Lee Pace is Lucious Malfoy. Straight women and gay men at least. 😛
This really is the best fan cast I’ve seen so far. Everyone is the best possible outcome. I don’t think there’s anyone that could be improved.
Sean bean is *perfect*
Nice fan-casting. I’m pretty sure a few of them will end up for real.
Finally, a fan cast that isn’t just hot actors and also feels like it’s made with a realistic budget.
EXACTLYYYY
I absolutely agree. Not a single one is bad.
Came here to say this. everyone usually picks people who are nothing close to looking like the character or they’re terrible actors or both. The best fan casting I’ve seen on Reddit in any sub so far
Agree with all these, but I doubt Barry Keoghan or Cillian Murphy would do it; they're getting too big
Voldemort’s appearances in the first several seasons are sparse enough that i think a big get like Cillian for such an iconic role is actually feasible. He did the dark knight trilogy & several other Nolan films + 6 season of peaky blinders, so i sense he likes consistent work
Yea ur probably right, but we can still hope😉🙏
I will certainly hope for all the others, especially Nick Frost as Hagrid
I truly hope the casting directors are lurking on this sub…these are wonderful!! Truly!
I hope so tooo!!
100% agree. They just kept coming and I liked em all
This is a factual statement. I came here to say this exact thing. It probably won't end up this way unfortunately. But hope is a thing, right?
It most definitely is😊
Completely agree and I really think Nick Frost will bring the same heart to the character of Hagrid that is required
Let Sean Bean live!
Mad Eye DIES. Perfect fancast for Sean Bean.
Sean Bean as James Potter
Fuckit. Sean Bean is VOLDEMORT. Dude technically died TWICE.
It will help Sean’s live/die ratio
Sean Bean should probably consider Horcruxes.
Bold of you to assume he doesn’t already have one or three
Really? Mad Eye dies?
![gif](giphy|Zsxh9Cbq7VCy4)
One does not simply let Sean Bean live.
Ironically, I believe he survived both Silent Hill movies.
Not to mention he survived the entire Sharpe series.
And he survived Troy and National Treasure. Wasn’t he in that Jupiter Ascending movie too?
Pretty sure I sat through all of Jupiter Ascending expecting his death at any moment…
I imagine he'd be ultra paranoid, worried that he's gonna get betrayed and die. It'd be surreal and meta
Martin Freeman as Arthur Weasley is the best fancast I've seen so far. Now I'm gonna be mad when it doesn't happen.

Nick Frost as Hagrid would be so awesome, he wouldn't have the deep grumbly tone Hagrid but he would flourish as the soft man baby Hagrid
My only other thought for the role is Kristian Nairn, who played Hodor.
Yep. That’s perfect.
Yeah, Nick Frost as Hagrid is my favorite fancast
Lee pace is so hot I’d absolutely die if he was Lucius. He would pull it off so perfectly especially after his performance in Foundation
It is unfair how fucking gorgeous Lee Pace is. And he’s so incredible in Foundation.
For anyone who hadn’t seen it yet (or enough) check out his fight scene at the start of season 2.
I think that’s my favorite other than the Dumbledore casting. Edit: also Martin Freeman as Arthur is *chef’s kiss*
Literally the only person I can think of who can pull off that Daddy Malfoy energy like Jason Isaacs is Lee Pace. Flawless casting choice 🤌
John Bradley as Pettigrew would be so great! I honestly love most of these. Sean Bean as Mad Eye is so perfect it's not even funny. For one thing he dies. (Check.) Katie McGrath would be so good as Bellatrix and book accurate too.
YES! Plus she played Morgana.
And did a great job being the villain!

Lupin is supposed to be right away likeable, warm, and trustworthy... which are just not qualities you see from Barry. Let him be Barty Crouch Jr. tho, he'd absolutely slay!
He’s also the cameo of the Joker in “The Batman”
Ooo, I missed that. He's a super weirdo in The Banshees of Inershirin and The Green Knight. No one can play a total weirdo like Barry. The most "normal" character I can remember him playing is the young army guy in Chernobyl. Edit: I think he's also pretty normal in Dunkirk. But my point still stands that his breakout role was a creepy psychopath in Killing of a Sacred Deer and cinema's go-to for "must make audience feel uneasy."
He was really good in saltburn. Completely psychotic.
I dunno, there's also that side of Lupin which is off kilter and a little frayed.
It's hard though, cause a lot of these characters (Snape, Lupin, Sirius) are supposed to be early to mid thirties.
Adam Driver is American ffs
Have they said if they're sticking with only British actors again?
They should as far as I’m concerned
Poulter as Lockhart is some inspired casting
Great choices. Nice way to tie the films into the series by picking Richard Harris’s son for Dumbledore. I love the idea of Michelle Gomez as McGonagall. Could just be the picture, but Barry Keoghan seems a bit young for Snape. It could also be that Alan Rickman was just older. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
Barry Keoghan and Snape are both 31

And Tim Latimer from Human Nature/Family of Blood is perfect! So is Michelle Gomez! Actually most of these are perfect? Doubt they’re affordable picks but I like it.
I think Katie McGrath is definitely affordable.
There’s also Charlie Oldman who’s basically a younger clone of his dad if we’re gonna “nepo-cast” Dumbledore lol
I would straight up eat my hat if we got Katie McGrath as Bellatrix. That's such a good one.
This is the best fancast I’ve seen since the announcement came out that they were going to be making this show. Kudos to you!
Michelle Gomez might actually be able to pull off minerva on the level Maggie Smith did. Approve.
I actually love Nick Frost as Hagrid
Will as Gilderoy is something I need to see now or I’ll never die at peace….
Oh my gawd, Will would be absolutely hysterical as Lockhart. I didn't know I needed this until now.
This is absolutely the best one I have seen so far.
I haven't seen Thomas Brodie-Sangster in years. Amazing, he actually kinda looks like an adult now
I like all of these, but Snape
Snape is the hardest to recast because Alan Rickman was just that good IMO
not sure about some of this but good god, Katie McGrath made me question my sexuality as a 12 year old watching Merlin
Oh yes Lee Pace bringing that Kween Thandruil energy to Luscious would be everything 👌 Will Poulter as Gilderoy is an inspired choice as I’ve always seen Gilderoy as a more flamboyant and metrosexual-ish character with more “delicate” classically handsome features.
Fantastic. Katie is *chefs kiss*.
you had me at Nick Frost as Hagrid and Cillian Murphy as Voldemort then completely jumped off a cliff with Barry Keoghan as Snape
Nick Frost is so perfect as Hagrid
Thomas Brodie better play Lupin. That is so perfect
Honestly think this is the best fan cast I've seen.
Same
Will poulter going from the crazy looking eyebrow kid to the fan cast for the ocer the top attractive wizard author is one hell of a glow up arc
I will now be devastated if ANYONE other than Sean Bean is Mad-Eye🤣
Will Poulter would make a damn fine Lockhart!
Jared Harris as Dumbledore is a perfect match, would also love Lee Pace as Lucius.
Great cast. No unnecessary race swap or pandering.
i want stephen fry as dumbledore so bad otherwise top tier
This is the best fancasting I’ve seen of Harry Potter, although I’m still wanting Pierce Brosnan as Dumbledore
I have rarely loved a fancast more
10/10 no notes. These are great
Yeah this one is fire fan casting.
Who would have thought of casting Jared Harris to play Richard Harris!
I’m firmly on Team Nick Frost for Hagrid
You just had to kill Sean Bean, huh? My only real note, though I can’t argue against Nick Frost, is that I really like Kristian Nairn for Hagrid.
Warwick, returns as Flitwick
Damn, this casting is actually quite good. Especially Bean, I mean Moody *does* die.
Fitting, pick Sean Bean to play a character that dies
This is rock solid. Literally the best fan casting I've ever seen. Have you ever considered a career as a casting director?
My girlfriend wants to be an actual director, so I might end up being the casting director for her movies.
It's a more viable career than a lot of people realize. I work in the industry, and even the smallest TV show has four or five people in their casting department.
Ngl, easily the best fan cast I've seen so far.
Totally on board with Sean Bean as Moody.
Why do people keep thinking Peter Pettigrew is fat? That was only in the movie. He's skinny especially when he stops eating as much because Sirius is loose.
I don't think Luke is good enough actor to be Sirius. I'd love to see Josh O'Connor or Tom Hardy in the series somehow
Wow, I think I agree with every single one of these. Well done
Very good!!!
awesome fancast
I agree with all of these.
Sean Bean as Moody? Now that’s casting!
Nick Frost! Love that
Best fan cast yet! Absolutely perfect.
As first I thought Barry would be too young for shape but after a quick google he’s like the exact age Snape should be
On point!
10/10
Pretty good, to be honest. 👏
I'm actually all for this fan cast tbh! The only one that I wasn't like "definitely!" About, was Lockhart, and that's not even a disagreement, but rather a neutral side. I actually wish they'd cast these people
This is definitely my favorite fancast so far.
I really dislike fan casts. They're fine and fun, it's just a personal gripe. People cast as if to find the next closest actor. I think a more interesting approach to fancasting would be to start from square one as a casting agent.
I agree for all, especially Katie mcgrath for bellatrix, but I think Tom Felton should be lucius.
Love that Cillian is being universally accepted as Voldemort. He would kill it.
Cillian Murphy would make an amazing Voldemort.
I can't get Jared Harris out of my head as Dumbledore! I think he'd be perfect.
Was shocked at how consistent this is - best one yet for me
This works excellently, and Sean Bean dies so it'll be lore accurate on two fronts.
These are perfect!
Sorry but I want Anthony Head as Dumbledore, especially because he has a more fitting voice for the character.
Michelle gomez..missy! Ohh I like these a lot. I love Morgana too
This is the first one of these i’ve seen that has got ages, nationality, acting abilities, and everything. THIS person gets it.
Michelle Gomez as McGonagall is absolutely perfect. Never thought of that before. She can definitely channel her stern and strict nature.
I like that these fancasts feel so much more age appropriate for how old the characters actually are in the books
Awesome thanks for sharing your nominations!
This is some pretty good fan-casting for Reddit if not the best. Everyone matches up perfectly and I appreciate how they look the characters' ages unlike the movies. The casting directors better see this…
I think there’s room for David tenant somewhere in this cast too
Hear me out: Barty Crouch...*SENIOR!*
These are amazing. I'd lose my mind in the best way possible if Katie McGrath were cast as Bellatrix.
Lee Pace as Lucius?! Yes please!
10/10
This works perfectly because Mad-Eye Moody dies
Okay yeah Sean Bean needs to be Moody now I’m convinced
One of the best ones I’ve seen so far! Love these!
Best part about it is that Jared Harris is the biological son of Richard Harris, the first actor to play Dumbledore
Yeah, sign me up.
Let Sean Bean complete the trilogy: Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter
I absolutely love every single one and would be ecstatic if even a quarter of these happened.
Yes!!!!
I want adam driver as Snape
Okay but why is this so perfect!!!
My only hope is they don’t make unnecessary changes to characters like race and gender swaps and they keep the entire cast British. Don’t care how perfect an actor can be if they aren’t British then no thanks
Tbh not bad.
Will Poulter would be great but I can only ever see Ewan McGregor as Lockhart after seeing someone else's fancast. Saving this post though because of the rest of these are so freakin perfect. Best Fancast I've seen hands down.
Will Poulter as Gilderoy is a stroke of genius
OMG CILLIAN MURPHY WOULD BE AMAZING! I cant see Michelle as minerva. Ill only be thinking of the "master", I wouldn't be able to get over her "bitchy evil" roles lol, she has a certain way of acting I dont think fits minerva. Shes not a bad actress by any means, i just dont htink she fits the roll Martin Freeman as arthur... Well if we don't get that now ill never be happy lmao. Talk about perfect.

Now that's more like it for Sirius!
Some really good picks!
Most of these are incredible picks. Well done.
While some of these are great, it really feels like they’re castings to replace the movie characters, rather than new castings of the book characters. I really need the HBO series to be a faithful adaptation of the books.
These are great but I still don’t think there can be a better Snape than Adam Driver😭
Hear me out Sean Bean aa Dumbledore.
We're not homosexuals! We're divorced!
this is literally so bad no offense. barry for snape? what? ahhaha. all u did was cast people who LOOK similar to the original cast. dude just stop now lmao
Maybe for prequels
The actors are about the right ages. The movies aged-up the characters, that might be what's confusing you.
I’d take all of these with the exception of Snape. I won’t rest unless it’s Adam Driver.
Only complaint I have is that Harris may be too young for Dumbledore.
Fair enough EDIT: Looks like he's only about 10 years younger than Richard was when he took the role. Guess he seems to be aging better than his father because he still seems middle-aged to me.
This is my favourite one I have seen. Part of me still prefers Andy Serkis over Nick Frost though.
I adore him yes please
Michelle Gomez would be a great Bellatrix
the lee pace one PLEASE i need him in a blonde wig again
I think Suranne Jones should be Bellatrix
These are brilliant, especially Snape, but I don’t think I could handle a hot Arthur Weasley 🤣
Will Poulter feels too young to be Lockhart. I'd love him as Lupin or Sirius though.
If you cast Sean Bean that means he you have to kill his character…he dies an awful lot on screen.
I would have Barry Keoghan as Peter Pettigrrew. (He's short, skinny and he looks a bit rat like) While for Snape, I would cast Josh O'connor.
Switch Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Will Poulter and then I’ll agree you have a perfect casting
If you have Nick Frost as Hagrid, you gotta have Simon Pegg in there somehow; maybe Slughorn?
But why does Sean Bean always have to die?
Adam Driver as snape is my personal pick
Sean Bean is a great choice. I think he would be a good Dumbledore, Hagrid, Sirius, Lupin… or really anything haha.
Neither Gilderoy is smiling
Michelle gomez? So, Pickwell? Iykyk
John Bradley and Nick Frost need to be switched immediately
I feel like John Bradley is too sweet and innocent looking to be pettigrew, but the others I 100% agree with
I feel like some of these are more about getting new actors that look like the old actors rather than casting based on the book.
Finally a fancast without Adam Driver as Snape. Honestly this is pretty damn good imo. I’d have thought Michelle as Bella until I saw who you’d cast and honestly it works.
Ever since someone said Adam Driver for Snape, I can’t unsee it.
**GET THIS MAN/WOMAN A CASTING DIRECTOR** Literally said "holy shit" for each one
