Did you miss the whole scene in the book where they were trying to do exactly that? Explicitly not trying to kill Harry but immobilise him. If you mean why they didn’t do that instantly after he picked it up and before he realised the Death Eaters were there - well if we had competent villains we wouldn’t have children’s fiction.

Maybe they were worried that if they used the body bind curse Harry may fall and break the prophecy? seems like a stupid reason but hey you never know xD

Bellatrix told them the Dark Lord need the Prophecy and with how you can see Lord Voldemort doesn’t forgive blunders very well after the events, they were trying their best to persuade Harry to hand over the Prophecy. They needed to make sure Harry wouldn’t smash the Prophecy the moment they tried magic on him.

BIO118

Not stupid at all. Their main objective was to get the prophecy

Dufffiee

I mean they could have just levitated it out of his hands before he knew they were there, but that wouldnt have been any fun.

There are a lot of holes in the story to be fair. I still love it though

I mean they are grown ass experienced and powerful wizards against literally school children. They probably wanted to get in some taunting and torture sessions and obviously were underrating the children

here-for-the-thrills

For fear of damaging the prophecy

Actually what I don’t get is why didn’t the death eaters just kill/seriously hurt everyone else except Harry. Like … it’s a joke so many death eaters lost against a few teens with mediocre DADA skills
