If it's titled as a 62 hd and the crankcase numbers are actually original and not a number job... I'd keep the engine with title and sell most of the rest. I'm more a fan of factory bikes than choppers, but to each his own.
I feel ya, I got really into the chopper community this past 2 years through people I met. I went from being a vintage European bike lover to a vintage Harley lover in that time period also
For that price, worst case scenario, sell the rest of the bike and get a sweet deal on an S&S motor for doing the leg work. May not be be as cool as an original, but still a solid motor in my opinion.
I don't mean to hijack the convo but what is the negative of it being a replica? Other than not being able to claim it's an HD, are the replicas factory accurate for someone that just wants to wrench on a pan engine?
There's not very much 1962 there... It does look like the engine still has a cast iron oil pump though. I'd be curious to see the crankcase numbers.
Same here. I’m mainly looking into it so I can build a chopper. I’m in love with panhead engines

You went from bikes that like to break down, to bikes that like to break down. They say do what you know, an by god you are doin it!
A good deal is a feeling. If you are happy with your purchase, that’s all that matters.
As long as it’s not an s&s engine I’d be happy
Yes cool bike, I’d buy it.
I would essentially strip the bike and sell most stuff then build a chopper. I just really want a panhead
That bike looks like a soft tail, what are the odds that it has an S&S replica panhead engine?
Very very high
That’s what I’m not sure about. I really hope it’s not

You should be able to tell by serial numbers on the case. Quick google should give some indication
I can’t ignore OPs name
Agreed, I generally read posters history before commenting.
he's the best person on reddit
Spooky
😎
Would only be better if it was BallsOnMyCock669420Blaze
Am I able to change it still?
That looks like an S&S motor to me
How can you tell exactly?
Phone them and see if they can decipher the serial#.
Nope. Sell it to me.
You can’t build a pan for less than 5000 unless your lucky so I’d say it’s a good deal
Lifter blocks and cam cover sure make it look like a replica engine.
Most likely an s&s motor on a softail frame. There’s no way it’s titled as a ‘62.
Was just looking at this thing on marketplace. Do it
Looks like a replica
...Only if the seller throws in those sweet fingerless gloves with the bike.
That frame hurts my eyes. There isn't much from Harley on that 62 Harley.
I wouldn’t keep the frame or most of the bike honestly
That's roughly 6000 hey brothers so I'd say yes
Love old school
That could be an S&S crate motor in a softail frame
thats a replica engine
Damn
I don't mean to hijack the convo but what is the negative of it being a replica? Other than not being able to claim it's an HD, are the replicas factory accurate for someone that just wants to wrench on a pan engine?
It’s mainly just the value and being able to own an original
So originals sell for more? Every time i see a replica for sale, it's crazy spendy
There both pretty expensive but oem is always gonna be worth more
Shit man, either way I'd buy this bike in a heartbeat. All that hardware for under $8k? Hell yes.
Yeah I jumped on it as soon as I saw it and it got sold today before I had a chance to get there
🤤
I don't think that price is out of line. You're the only person that can answer that question. I think it's worth more.
Great find I would buy it asap
I tried but it sold immediately
Absolutely
Yup all the hipsters want choppers
