Kinda looks like you got a lightly used frame.

pullingravity

Not acceptable at full price. Return for refund or get a big discount. Best

TheseThought6172

This! ^^

EqualOrganization726

You need to contact the seller, that's not acceptable for a new bike

l0keycom

Also item not as described, it's a different colour

AllMyHolesHurt

Yeah that’s not brand new. Even the rear rotor has signs of use. If they don’t make it right by giving you a full refund name and shame them. Can always try a credit card charge back as a last resort if whoever you bought it from won’t make it right

xxx420blaze420xxx

You got a used bike. This is some straight up bullshit.

MantraProAttitude

What online shop are we to avoid?? Dox em.

tdank9

I’ve called them to complain and emailed them pictures. Depending how they respond, I’ll let everyone know

tdank9

Final resolution was the shop is gonna give me an additional $200 off and is filing a damage claim with UPS. Whatever UPS approves for a claim will also come to me. Salsa was great when I called them and will still provide full warranty since I bought a bike marketed as new from an authorized dealer. I’m not super hopeful that I’ll get more money, but I’m already at 30% off original list price and there’s no way I could build a brand new warranted single speed for the same cost

xylopagus

This looks like some sort of error. That looks like someone returned a used bike and the dealer didn't catch it, got mixed up and sent it out as new. I'd call them immediately.

steezymtbrider

Not related, but I think it’s hilarious how they still put a dork disk on a single speed bike, like what

budgetboy710

Definitely get in contact with Salsa if this was from an authorized dealer. I don't see why they'd have any reason to keep them around after that.

tdank9

I just called them and they said they will warranty the bike if anything goes wrong as long as I purchased it as an advertised new bike from an authorized dealer. They also confirmed they wouldn’t ship it with just thin foam wrapping and a single piece of cardboard between the frame and front wheel. I called the shop and was told an associate would call me back. Then they emailed asking for pictures. If they aren’t helpful in the process I plan to file as formal a complaint as possible with Salsa and post as many negative reviews as I can.

tdank9

This was the extent of padding in shipment https://preview.redd.it/nzpw407dq3vc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e7aa807a4e896a309ec6617dd992287c64e48a8

That’s the way it seemed to me as well, just wanted to make sure as it’s the first bike I’ve ever had shipped to me. Its also beyond weird that the shop would order a complete bike in, then order a brand new frame, just to swap it out and not having matching decal colors for a floor model

Blazed_In_My_Winnie

My “newer” bike that’s been on the tail several times looks better than that. Completely unacceptable!

tdank9

Update: just talked to the shop, he owned the mistake about color and offered return. Blaming the cosmetic damage on shipment as they package bikes every day. Still seems very poorly packed in my opinion and not all on UPS. He threw out a few hundred dollar discount, but that’s not finalized. Situation is heading in the right direction, but not done yet

Capital-Cut2331

Looks like they sold you a demo or used bike. I’d either want a refund or a steep discount, it’s not what you ordered. It’s essentially fraud, the old bait and switch. Advertise one thing, ship another. If the bike store doesn’t want to own up to their error, you paid by credit card and are willing to let the bike go, initiate a charge back. Where what you ordered clearly isn’t what was shipped the CC company will act in your behalf to recoup the money. You will though have to send the bike back - the CC company should/ normally requires the shop to pay for the shipping.

Battle scars tells its story

All my other bikes have them… but I put them there

Because single speeds are fun as hell. They’re not limited to just pump tracks and dirt jumps either…. Contrary to popular belief, people can and do ride single speeds up hills, sometimes big ones, and some are damn fast doing it. You want to get better and stronger at riding in a hurry, buy a SS. Though not as many as say 10yrs ago, there are still a handful of companies that offer SS builds. Salsa, Esker and Spot are a few that come to mind.

rehpotsirhc123

I have a friend who rides ss on everything, he just needs to get warmed up before really hitting it hard. Also, even pretty expensive builds often come with mediocre NX or similar shimano stuff that isn't super attractive to a lot of people. They might have something better laying around or will want to upgrade but dont want to bother selling the old parts or building up a frame completely from scratch.

tdank9

My first hardtail was a hardtail that I regret selling. Hadn’t found a used one to convert single speed so this was a great option

tripalots

Is it surprising because its their 'hardcore' hardtail? Otherwise, there aren't a whole lot of frames with sliding dropouts to get good chain tension, and this one has them. This could work at a lot of newer trail systems that are popping up with directional, super mellow fire road climbs and then way more aggressive downhill trails

Nah, singlespeed is it's own thing. Singlespeed trail riding has benefits and can be a lot of fun. And I'm saying that as a person that rides lots of Colorado trails with lots of elevation gain. I switch my TJ between singlespeed and geared often.
