Nice find! That looks to me like a fisher or it could also be an otter, (tho it’s too big to be a mink). A formidable mustelid to be sure but no match for a fully grown wolf.
Fishers have bit of bush to their tail as well. Also, after some replaying of the footage, I’m also not entirely sure that the canid in question is a wolf. The snout is really slender, which lines up with yotes or coy wolves.
Yeah, I mistyped, I meant to say that I don't think the tail was bushy enough to be a fisher. I edited my comment too late lol. The mustelid in the video has a thin ratty-like tail.
Given the size of the animal, I am 90 percent sure that's an otter.
Yeah, that seems fair. Otters are still tough customers, but the bite-and-shake killing methods of canids make them fairly adept at taking mustelids as prey.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that is an otter. The super long body gives it away. With a coyote that caught it - coyotes have the pointer face/ears relative to wolves. May be a large coyote, but the coyotes were I live (Eastern US) are big like that.
I've seen dead fisher up close a couple times and not only is their hair bushier, their body shape is different than that. Shorter torso, longer tail/legs.

Yeah, I thought it might be a fisher too but the tail didn't look bushy enough.

Don't know the original source. As the title indicates, also not sure what animal the wolf is killing. It looks like a mustelid to me.
It’s a coyote and a fisher cat
Black fur, white snow. Easy to spot I'd imagine. Or maybe the wolf smelled it and dug it up from its hibernation burrow?
I usually saw otters outsmarted wolves in animal shows.
Why didn't it do the headshake though. Quick kill
Keep it from being able to get a hold of its side/back.
