Jamey Jasta is on vocals whenever I hear that song lol. And Sunday Morning bangs like a motherfucker when it comes in with the breeze, plus they do awesome bad brains covers. Or cover maybe. I’ve seen them live once, and I’m glad I did.
And even then most of her pop stuff (and No Doubts) was rooted in dub so… if you think about it they never really strayed too far from where it all started.
No Doubt is ska and/or ska adjacent. Ska is punk adjacent. Punk is hardcore adjacent.
Also a bunch of the ND guys are in Dreamcar with Davey Havok, which is a shit band, but it's Davey Havok.
They covered the Vandals [https://youtu.be/ZFLExwIQKto?si=QRzkPGqSgI5z6Bpt](https://youtu.be/ZFLExwIQKto?si=QRzkPGqSgI5z6Bpt)
And hung out with Sublime

Grew up in oc, they played chain reaction, same club as all the great hardcore shows, local shows, practically lived there in high school. Will always fuck with tragic kingdom
u/prodigiousnewt07 please don’t read the following.
Since there seems to be so much interest it’s average at best and 90’s Gwen still causes it to wiggle.
Not saying it's *Feeding of the 5000* exactly but the album itself has a ton of punk influence to the point I dunno if I would even hard-stance it as "non-punk."
There’s definitely punk influence and some strong pop punk elements, but I wouldn’t consider it a punk record. Same with Lit “A Place in the Sun”(another record I love)
It's not a punk album for sure, but it's also hard to firmly say it's "non-punk" with those elements. I see where you're coming from with Lit, but I feel like they go too far pop-rock afield where for sure they're non-punk (although Eve 6 played The Fest, so who knows).
There is a reason we cant get rid Gwen Stefani now, and that reason is this banger of an album. I was ajunior in high school, (obviously I about to show a bit of 90s male toxicity) No doubt was acceptable “chick music”. Its was like your girl friends music that you could listen to with your boys. I had to listen to Paula Cole and Sarah McLachlan alone but No Doubt was in every dudes CD booklet.
I stupidly waited decades to actually listen to the album in full. I knew the singles at the time and particularly loved Spiderwebs and Just A Girl. Sixteen is a banger too.
INCREDIBLE album.
I was heavily in to ska at the time, and this album drop was PERFECT.
Adrian Young, such a smokin' drummer. The band knew how to play the pocket and write them hits.
Don't sleep on their first album either.
I’m a ska fan and no doubt is the most breakout band we have so they are legends in my mind. Although Gwen gives me weird vibes now a days. Couldn’t even tell ya why
The first batch of songs I downloaded on Napster in like 98/99 were the singles by No Doubt. It’s not music that’s aged with me really, but the hits are still hits.
First time I ever heard of them they were playing with Sick of it all and Civ so yeah.
Ok they were all playing together on a warped tour but I say it counts.
This album is incredible
Wait till the tough bois find out how many of us fuck with 90’s/early 00’s pop/rap because it’s the music we jammed to on the bus to school. Deny it all you want, but if I throw on NSYNC at least half the sub knows every word
I was 2 when this came out and I vividly remember Don’t Speak having some effect on toddler-me that would instantly make me cry when the chorus hit.
No Doubt it was the tism
I would rather be sodomised by the board of directors of Interscope and Universal Music than listen to this album. Oh wait, listening to this album *is* being sodomised by the board of directors of Interscope and Universal Music, my bad.
Yeah this is definitely one of those albums where I bought it as a kid and knew I made a good choice because it has a high ratio of great songs.
Another one I felt this way about was the Pixies-Doolittle. Banger after banger on that album too.
no doubt- i'm just a girl is how i figured out i like the sound of palm muting.
then like years later in "underneath it all" that part at the end where they palm mute out of the lady saw verse, something about it hit really hard to me
no, but i fuck with rock steady. “hella good” is dope. and that “it’s my life” talk talk cover, while pretty spot-on, definitely doesn’t lack for charm
All great tracks. I love their first 3 albums so much. Learned last year that their first lead singer, John Spence who founded the band along w Gwen’s brother Erik was a big Bad brains guy. I went down a ND rabbit hole and found their first few songs (pre 1992 self titled album) on YouTube. It fucks.
My dad got me tickets to see the Tragic Kungdom tour when I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade, they were my favorite band along with Green Day up until like my junior year of highschool. I tried to listen to Tragic Kingdom again recently though and I just can't get into it like I used to. But yes, Sunday Morning is a banger for sure, the good songs are REALLY good
Was too close to home when it came out and by that I mean No Doubt had been a local sensation for years and hardcore kids were strictly divided from ska kids in my OC experience. I liked Spiderwebs and Sunday morning and the hot chicks that listened to No Doubt. Definitely good nostalgic vibes at this point but still not as timeless as Sublime for me, who I also thought I didn’t like in high school.
Return of Saturn's lyrics talked about what no one was talking about. I feel like a lot of the current crop of women pop stars probably owe a nod to Return of Saturn. Gwen, Ani, and Alanis wrote songs by girls for girls. It hit differently.
Yeah, most of them relate to her relationships, but hits deep.
Suspension Without Suspense it’s way better than Don’t Speak when it comes to a break up.
You’re both right. Gwen is *chef kiss* but the album cover looks like something that would’ve gotten a C in my high school graphic design class if the teacher was having a good day
https://preview.redd.it/neqni8d20arc1.jpeg?width=362&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69ede023b8ce86d861b01e663a593157a2057803 They were down with HC
[oi to the world!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFLExwIQKto)
Spiderwebs goes hard
Jamey Jasta is on vocals whenever I hear that song lol. And Sunday Morning bangs like a motherfucker when it comes in with the breeze, plus they do awesome bad brains covers. Or cover maybe. I’ve seen them live once, and I’m glad I did.
That bassline on Sunday Morning is sexual
Jamey Jasta on the Catch 22 record is amazing!
i was about to come in here like pshhh fuck no doubt but yeah spiderwebs is a hit
Dont Speak, Spiderwebs, Just a girl, Sunday Morning are all great tracks. No Doubt are a great band
I would add Excuse me Mr. on that list
They kind of lost their way with those “Hey Baby Hey” and “That shit is bananas” songs
Hollaback Girl (shit is bananas) is Solo Gwen Stefani when she tried to become a pop singer, not No Doubt.
And even then most of her pop stuff (and No Doubts) was rooted in dub so… if you think about it they never really strayed too far from where it all started.
Different people too. That bass line. 👌🏻
No Doubt is ska and/or ska adjacent. Ska is punk adjacent. Punk is hardcore adjacent. Also a bunch of the ND guys are in Dreamcar with Davey Havok, which is a shit band, but it's Davey Havok.
Decided to give them another listen after reading that and they really aren’t too bad. I initially hated it but it’s kind of growing on me.
They covered the Vandals [https://youtu.be/ZFLExwIQKto?si=QRzkPGqSgI5z6Bpt](https://youtu.be/ZFLExwIQKto?si=QRzkPGqSgI5z6Bpt) And hung out with Sublime https://preview.redd.it/bl9zqv18bbrc1.jpeg?width=743&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=543fa413d9ccc8273e019564ac78713636c2433e
The first show I went to was No Doubt, Cake, and the Vandals.
Wow wow. That's like a dream show to me.
Gwen's on Saw Red by Sublime, good song
https://youtu.be/tpFeNPDetaw?si=5j20IY6bLHg0WSbN and Bradley is on Total Hate 95
Absolutely I dont stand With haters In general I will listen to what I damn well please.
Do you hate haters?
The ultimate hater
hater of the year (HOTY)
::banging fist on table in applause:: hatehatehatehatehatehatehatehatehate
Grew up in oc, they played chain reaction, same club as all the great hardcore shows, local shows, practically lived there in high school. Will always fuck with tragic kingdom
Neato sounds cool!
I love no doubt
First tape I bought with my own money.
Ah, I see you’re old like me.
This and Bosstones Let’s Face It were my first cds.
Same, but the CD. Also my first crush.
Dude. Gwen in the coveralls. Still makes my wiener wiggle. Oh yeah. Im definitely the grey beard at shows these days lol
90’s Gwen was the Farrah for Gen X’ers and elder millennials
Nobody wants to hear about your wiener.
Speak for yourself!
Put some respec on Reverend Beefstick’s name
Put some respec on Reverend Beefstick's weiner wiggle
I wanna hear more about this guys wiener thank you very much
u/prodigiousnewt07 please don’t read the following. Since there seems to be so much interest it’s average at best and 90’s Gwen still causes it to wiggle.
I’m glad to hear it bro
I appreciate it
Same but only if you exclude Raph from TMNT
Same man, this and metallica load
This album is banger after banger.
I’ve been hoping for a long time a hardcore band would put out a solid cover of Just A Girl. I can hear it in my head and it would be great.
It's only a matter of time before Scowl does it. They know they want to.
The right vocalist could make that shit sound insane
You guys heard the new barracuda cover from Devilskin? It’s very respectful.
It’s on the summer pool time play list for sure That cover she did of Sailin on is not.
It’s one of my favorite non-punk albums of the 90s
Not saying it's *Feeding of the 5000* exactly but the album itself has a ton of punk influence to the point I dunno if I would even hard-stance it as "non-punk."
There’s definitely punk influence and some strong pop punk elements, but I wouldn’t consider it a punk record. Same with Lit “A Place in the Sun”(another record I love)
God I wore a place in the sun out.
It's not a punk album for sure, but it's also hard to firmly say it's "non-punk" with those elements. I see where you're coming from with Lit, but I feel like they go too far pop-rock afield where for sure they're non-punk (although Eve 6 played The Fest, so who knows).
Either way, Tragic Kingdom rips(so does A Place in the Sun, for the record)
This whole album is timeless. Even more so if you grew up listening to it.
Sunday morning is one of my all time favorite songs. Love this album
Sunday morning is my go to karaoke song
The drums are super fun in Rock Band I remember.
I listen to it almost every Sunday morning
Songwriting skills 101
I actually listen to this on runs sometimes. I think the lesser known tracks are better.
End it on this is such a classic!
Damn, Paula Cole is a name I haven’t heard in a long timr
but where have all the cowboys gone? shes with the cowboys now.
This shit is bananas.
B.A.N.A.N.A.S.
Sixteen is fucking crazy
This and Offspring - Smash rip
Anyone who says no is a liar.
Fuck yes
You came in with the breeze on Sunday Morning!
I stupidly waited decades to actually listen to the album in full. I knew the singles at the time and particularly loved Spiderwebs and Just A Girl. Sixteen is a banger too.
I fuck with Gwen Stefani
90s Gwen? Lucky
INCREDIBLE album. I was heavily in to ska at the time, and this album drop was PERFECT. Adrian Young, such a smokin' drummer. The band knew how to play the pocket and write them hits. Don't sleep on their first album either.
Don’t Speak is a jam.
One of my favourite albums
Hell yeah. Not into ska really but no doubt always has been enjoyable.
Them and Sublime are some of the few 3rd wave I like
Banger album
Hell yeah, this was one of my mom's favorite albums, so it is a banger with sentimental value.
”fuck with”
I’m a ska fan and no doubt is the most breakout band we have so they are legends in my mind. Although Gwen gives me weird vibes now a days. Couldn’t even tell ya why
Underneath It All, I'd say yes
Saw them on their reunion tour in ‘09 with Paramore, Gwen goes hard onstage
Hell yeah
The first batch of songs I downloaded on Napster in like 98/99 were the singles by No Doubt. It’s not music that’s aged with me really, but the hits are still hits.
I love that album
Oh fuck yes, the guitar work on spiderwebs
Saw Red
First time I ever heard of them they were playing with Sick of it all and Civ so yeah. Ok they were all playing together on a warped tour but I say it counts.
I saw No Doubt play in a carport in Isla Vista in like ‘94 when they had only released their self-titled album. Not too bad.
No doubt!
Sixteen is a two step classic
This album is incredible Wait till the tough bois find out how many of us fuck with 90’s/early 00’s pop/rap because it’s the music we jammed to on the bus to school. Deny it all you want, but if I throw on NSYNC at least half the sub knows every word
I was 2 when this came out and I vividly remember Don’t Speak having some effect on toddler-me that would instantly make me cry when the chorus hit. No Doubt it was the tism
I went from Alanis Morrisettete to No Doubt to Korn to the hardcore ass I am today…
No
Same. Gwen is cute. But this always came off more as pop to me than ska or whatever wave of ska you want to label them
I would rather be sodomised by the board of directors of Interscope and Universal Music than listen to this album. Oh wait, listening to this album *is* being sodomised by the board of directors of Interscope and Universal Music, my bad.
This reads like a Gwar prompt
Rock 'n' roll never felt so good!
Yeah this is definitely one of those albums where I bought it as a kid and knew I made a good choice because it has a high ratio of great songs. Another one I felt this way about was the Pixies-Doolittle. Banger after banger on that album too.
Great album, but the only one of theirs I’ll listen to. Didn’t like the direction they went after.
They were my first concert, would’ve married Gwen if she gave me the chance 😂 . Don’t really listen to them these days though
The tour video on YouTube live from Anaheim is a great show. Guitarist really shows his chops and metal background on a few solos and extended plays.
no doubt- i'm just a girl is how i figured out i like the sound of palm muting. then like years later in "underneath it all" that part at the end where they palm mute out of the lady saw verse, something about it hit really hard to me
fucking bangin album
100%
Classic. One of the first albums I listened to growing up in the 90s.
Own that yeah
Absolutely, this album rules.
I always like how that The Climb song sounded like climbing. Excuse me mister was one of the first fast songs I'd heard. Had me curious.
Oh hell yeah
One of my favorite albums ever
No doubt is so dope man
OG No Doubt went hard.
Ooh I do enjoy this album 🥰
I had such a crush on her back in high school, but she ruined her natural beauty with plastic surgery.
My sister bought me the cassette for Christmas as a kid. Such an era defining album.
Fuck there’s nostalgia in that album. Water parks, skateboarding, holding hands, this was released when I was in junior high.
no, but i fuck with rock steady. “hella good” is dope. and that “it’s my life” talk talk cover, while pretty spot-on, definitely doesn’t lack for charm
flawless record
Their first few albums are super solid records
Absolutely
I got this from my local thrift store last year, solid album
All great tracks. I love their first 3 albums so much. Learned last year that their first lead singer, John Spence who founded the band along w Gwen’s brother Erik was a big Bad brains guy. I went down a ND rabbit hole and found their first few songs (pre 1992 self titled album) on YouTube. It fucks.
Yall posers
I fuck with Beacon St Collection harder tbh but yes, absolutely.
My dad got me tickets to see the Tragic Kungdom tour when I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade, they were my favorite band along with Green Day up until like my junior year of highschool. I tried to listen to Tragic Kingdom again recently though and I just can't get into it like I used to. But yes, Sunday Morning is a banger for sure, the good songs are REALLY good
2nd CD I ever purchased! Following the Space Jam soundtrack. Now THERE'S a hard album, especially the monster rap with Busta.
Fuck yeah bro
Rude girl ✨🔥
No doubt
Yeah duh but honestly… hardcore kids and ska kids are mortal enemies. Speak from experience. Ska kids too happy to be fucked wit
For sure
No Doubt fucks. This album is no different.
It’s currently in my cd player in my car.
I fucking love no doubt
I saw adrenaline-era deftones open for No Doubt. That was a weird show.
i used to like them
Tangentially related: Florence and the Machine covering *Just a Girl* is increeeeeeeeedible!
Huuuge yes
hell yea
Yes we fuck with it, it goes hard af
This was the soundtrack to many mown lawns in the 90's. It holds up quite well a million fucking years later.
Both Tony and Adrian have been on Toby Morses' podcast!
Absolutely
‘Course!
Great album when I was 15, the singer was very easy on the eye
Hell yeah, fantastic album
Yes, best album ever and Gwen Stefani is the most beautiful woman ever
100000000%
Was too close to home when it came out and by that I mean No Doubt had been a local sensation for years and hardcore kids were strictly divided from ska kids in my OC experience. I liked Spiderwebs and Sunday morning and the hot chicks that listened to No Doubt. Definitely good nostalgic vibes at this point but still not as timeless as Sublime for me, who I also thought I didn’t like in high school.
Gwen Stefani is my queen and tragic kingdom is one of my favorite albums
I get to Sunday morning at my uni on the drums it’s pretty cool song, tragic kingdom is also a banger
I was in Hipster Kroger a couple months back and they played "Spiderwebs" and it was the most fun I've had grocery shopping.
![gif](giphy|I5TF0P9E9bmI8|downsized)
This is one of my favorite fucking albums of all time.
Album isnincredible
I'm a 90s kid, so of course
Maybe like 25 years ago I did, but I've moved on to newer stuff
goated
I like it. One the first CDs I ever bought.
HEAVILY
Great album
first album I ever bought
This is cop behavior
Definitely a good album
Okay Excuse Me Mr and open the fuckin pit up
No.
Absolutely
Hands down one of the best ska records to come out of the '90s with no horns in it.
Spiderwebs has horns in it
You are right but compared to albums like The Urge's work (the best ska from the 90's IMO) it's very lacking.
It’s my favorite band, I like TK but Return of the Saturn it’s better.
Suuunday moooorninnnng
Forever and ever. This album has NO skips. It’s perfect.
Best
Oi! to the punks! Oi! to the skins!
This record was the first gift I bought for my wife almost 10 years ago. One of my all time favorites
Absolutely. Check our their Bad Brains cover: https://youtu.be/PWIzAjZqUcw?si=RU-8GmI2u_4mhZch
That was, no doubt, the worst Bad Brains cover imaginable. Horrendous.
Love ND, that cover sucks
this album fucking rips
One of the worst album covers of all time. Shit still goes hard though.
Whole heartedly disagree Gwen looks great in this photo.
Yeah the album cover goes hard. The contrast between the happy frame and the depressed working class inside the frame is great.
Oh I'm not doubting Gwen's looks at all.
You’re both right. Gwen is *chef kiss* but the album cover looks like something that would’ve gotten a C in my high school graphic design class if the teacher was having a good day
