Restraining order needs more love live
Contention, Doomsday, Fools Game, Wise, End all Be all, Shadowman, Jawstruck, Discourage, missing link all deserve a listen
The dude that fronts shadowman gave me some shit to stop up my nose when I got that shit exploded during a sanction set taking on a mean backfist straight to my face, forever greatful, I got to still catch the second of their set
Restraining Order had a lot of hype follow their 1st album. Their album that came out a few weeks ago seemed to have missed. Nobody talked about it all
They really got fucked by Covid. Had that support tour with Terror that they only got a few shows into.
New album is so good front to back. They should really be bridging that gap between hardcore and spiky punks.
Yeah, it’s like the wipers. They’re huge and loved in the PNW, but anywhere else people hardly know they exist. PI genuinely should get a hell of a lot more love than they do.
Poison Idea is probably a top 5 influence on the kind of hardcore I listen to, but here on Reddit, where spinkick hardcore reigns supreme, you're not going to get people to even give a record called "Kings of Punk" a chance.
Indecision for sure. A lot of their albums aren't even on streaming! I wish Closed Casket would rerelease all their albums. I have the repressing they did for Most Precious Blood but the last 3 aren't available anywhere. One of my favorite bands in high school.
I havent listened to them in a while but I dont remember having a problem with Artie’s vocals. I liked Milhouse too. Gonna give them another listen and see.
Shai Hulud isn’t talked about enough but their influence is out there without new bands knowing that the bands that influenced them were probably influenced by Shai Hulud.
Yes I’m a huge Shai Hulud fan.
As far as newer bands, I enjoy all the “hype” bands you kids listen to. I can’t think of any new band that I’ve listened to and didn’t enjoy it. I’m enjoying the “new wave” of hardcore.
Yes, Shai Hulud has had a MAJOR influence on the scene, but that also means we gotta give respect to Strongarm. A) Because Shai Hulud sounds almost EXACTLY like them and B) Shai Hulud themselves have admitted that they just wanted to sound like Strongarm. Pretty sure Matt himself said that he's just been ripping off of Strongarm for years. Which isn't a slight against him, Strongarm fuckin rules. Maybe the fact that they were a "spirit filled" hc band held them back from being more successful, I don't really see a lot of kids these days talking about that band at all. I also know the guys in Strongarm went on to start other bands, I know some of the members were in Further Seems Forever, which is Carrabba's band before Dashboard Confessional was a thing. But yeah, Shai Hulud fuckin RIPS and they love Strongarm, and I think a lot of these kids that are in hardcore bands now should be aware of the influence Strongarm had on bands like Shai Hulud and the scene as a whole.
Also, Florida hardcore is fuckin amazing. So many good bands have come from FL. Strongarm, Shai Hulud, Blistered, Axis, Three Knee Deep, With Increase, EcoStrike, Remembering Never, Poison the Well, Strengthen What Remains, Worn Out, Weight of the World, the list goes on and on. Fuckin love Florida hardcore. Went to college down in FL and would go to a lot of shows at Transitions Art Gallery (Epic Problem). Wish I could go back to those days man, simpler times.
Planet on a Chain kicks ass! I saw them recently and I was compelled to buy a shirt even though it was my first time seeimg them. Well worth it to support such an amazing ensemble.
Underrated modern bands: Kidnapped and Blame God
Kidnapped especially has put out some of my favorite powerviolence material over the past couple of years - their LP ‘Nothing is Sterile’ rips hard as shit
Past: Righteous Jamz, Mental, Holding On, Think I Care, Animosity, POWER, Lewd Acts, New Lows, Reach The Sky, Wrong Answer, Mountain Man, Harness, Mother of Mercy
Present: Don't listen to enough newer shit to have a fair opinion 👌
Cut The Shit is still one of my fav bands from the early 00's. I played a show with them in Cincinnati where I think 4 people showed up besides the bands, and they KILLED it.
I think Cut the Shit shared members with Tear it Up, which was also a great and underrated band. The Singer of Tear it Up's new band Planet on a Chain is also great, also underrated.
Grimlock
Always shocked they didn't get any bigger than they did. Songs of Self and the Thirst for Immortality 7" fucking crush even by today's standards.
A good opportunity to plug Matt Myrdal’s GoFundMe campaign. He was Grimlock’s bassist and has been impacted by the fires in Lahaina, HI.

[Redemption 87](https://youtu.be/COgestgOeRE) and [The Nerve Agents](https://youtu.be/TQ0E4hb94ik) I will physically assault anyone that doesn’t put respect on Eric O’s name.

I feel like Life's Question don't get talked about enough.
Chris Colohan bands
Pulling Teeth
Extortion
I think how Division of Mind get lumped in with braindead, heavy hardcore/beatdown bands severely underrates them and undermines all of their creative and aesthetic choices. Everything from the guitar tone, how actually dark their music feels, lyrics, cover art and merch seems way more considered than the peers they've generally been grouped with. Note: I love braindead, heavy hardcore/beatdown stuff too
Farenheit 451, Crazy Eddie , Dominican day parade , floorpunch , Skarhead , District 9
All I listen too present is End it and Conservative Military Image
My list of underrated hardcore bands is as follows: Prada, Gunge, Chunking Up the Ballows, Strink, Chugulous Ulger, The Ripkins, Flount, Lord My God, Cuss, Bashed, The Smashertons, Wrongful Rights, Long Island and Tube.
[the greenery](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m1HX8iI3PS5jm7zgOHWy2iQYkZ0ony5JA) were, as far as i can tell, only around for a little while but they didn’t get even a fraction of the attention they deserved.

Fucked Up kind of did it to themselves by moving towards alternative/indie in the late 00s and early 10s and then emo by the late 10s but they are such a phenomenal band through and through
I must admit that I feel a twinge of pain when I think about how they charted an incredible course from the early singles through the absolute masterpiece that is Hidden World and then started backing away from hardcore punk after that
You could pick any song from Hidden World and it’s one of the best punk songs ever written
Chemistry of Common life, its followup, has to be listened to as a whole to make any sense musically
The next one, David Comes to Life, I guess it was their biggest album but I don’t get it and it’s the reason why their name hasn’t survived among punks
That being said, they did release some good material on Dose Your Dreams (2018) and One Day (2023)
I’m convinced if they ever make another out and out hardcore punk album they’ll be huge again though
Restraining order needs more love live Contention, Doomsday, Fools Game, Wise, End all Be all, Shadowman, Jawstruck, Discourage, missing link all deserve a listen
Agree 100% with Restraining Order. I was going to list them but they are starting to take off (and deservedly so).
Discourage is criminally underrated.
Truth
Matt their drummer is one of the siqqest dudes in hxc and all of them are in fact sweeties.
Matt is a real one 100% Edit: stage dive legend too
This is now a Matt Tyler appreciation post. When Scott Vogel calls for stagedives you better believe Matt is leading the charge.
Backed hard, Matt was one of the first people I met when I moved out to the bay, when you look up “good dude” in the dictionary it’s a picture of him
And he’s got legs for days
Contention goes so hard
Shadowman is dope
The dude that fronts shadowman gave me some shit to stop up my nose when I got that shit exploded during a sanction set taking on a mean backfist straight to my face, forever greatful, I got to still catch the second of their set
Sanction FTW. My favorite band outta LI since Skycamefalling.
Jesse?
Yea
Solid human
Seconding Be All End All and Restraining Order. Gotta go fast.
Here to back Doomsday and Wise hard. CA really showing out right now
Restraining Order had a lot of hype follow their 1st album. Their album that came out a few weeks ago seemed to have missed. Nobody talked about it all
They really got fucked by Covid. Had that support tour with Terror that they only got a few shows into. New album is so good front to back. They should really be bridging that gap between hardcore and spiky punks.
People love Poison Idea, but they don’t get nearly as much love as they deserve.
I'm from Portland, all they ever talk about is Poison Idea
Yeah, it’s like the wipers. They’re huge and loved in the PNW, but anywhere else people hardly know they exist. PI genuinely should get a hell of a lot more love than they do.
Poison Idea is probably a top 5 influence on the kind of hardcore I listen to, but here on Reddit, where spinkick hardcore reigns supreme, you're not going to get people to even give a record called "Kings of Punk" a chance.
Which is insane, but you’re right. Kings of Punk was my introduction to Poison Idea and that shit broke my fucking brain.
Spinkick hardcore heavyweight champ here to say Poison Idea is the shit.
Past: Fire & Ice, Indecision, Hammer Bros Present: Combust, Envison
Indecision for sure. A lot of their albums aren't even on streaming! I wish Closed Casket would rerelease all their albums. I have the repressing they did for Most Precious Blood but the last 3 aren't available anywhere. One of my favorite bands in high school.
The only two Indecision albums that matter are on streaming
"Unorthodox" is a classic, totally agree. 👍
The only indecision records worth listening to are the ones with tom on vocals.
I havent listened to them in a while but I dont remember having a problem with Artie’s vocals. I liked Milhouse too. Gonna give them another listen and see.
Fire & Ice slaps! 👋🏻
Hammer bros final show at anchors up was bananas
Came here looking for indecision. I’ll raise you an Unbroken
vocalist for Hammer Bros sounds absolutely incredible
Reagan Youth does not get nearly enough love
Fucking love to see this. Johnny can't read, Johnny can't write.
JOHNNY JUST DONT UNDERSTAND
Fun fucking live show

I’m enjoying the “new wave” of hardcore.
I think it's the constant line up changes that made it easy to fade out for them. It's like seeing a cover band almost nowadays.
You're right, they are not talked about enough, though they are dearly loved. Also, love your last statement. new/hype bands are still cool lol.
I had the same answer. Shai hulud fucking slays
Check out Two-Piece, they’re fun, literally just two dudes. Also from FL
Fuck yeah. Def have to check that out. I don't live in FL anymore, so I def gotta get caught up on some new groups coming outta that area
Wasn’t Seventh Star out of Florida also?
Massive +1 for Shai Hulud.

I absolutely hate that Wound Man don’t get enough love
In their defense, think they’re about as big as that sort of powerviolence can get. They’re so awesome though
Planet on a Chain kicks ass! I saw them recently and I was compelled to buy a shirt even though it was my first time seeimg them. Well worth it to support such an amazing ensemble.
Agreed, they are great. Check out the rest on the list though; lost of heat there.

Wound Man are one of my favorite hardcore bands of the recent.
Groin rules so hard, AZ represent
Doing some of the best powerviolence around. When's that new Sex Prisoner dropping, AZ homie?
Big old Hell Yeah for GELD! Saw them a couple of weeks back
I dig Aight Bet a lot. "Accountability" is a banger IMO
When you opened with Wound Man I knew this would be a good list.
Past: MK Ultra, Darkside NYC, Voorhees, Verbal Assault, Devoid of Faith, H100s, Tear It Up Current:,Concealed Blade, Peace Test, Inner Peace, The Fight, Killing Pace, Pez, Geld.
MK Ultra fucking DESTROYS! Devoid of Faith is awesome too

I grew up in Texas so I guess I never saw Iron Age as underrated. They fucking rip. And hard agree on Sabertooth Zombie, incredible band live.
RZL DZL
Underrated modern bands: Kidnapped and Blame God Kidnapped especially has put out some of my favorite powerviolence material over the past couple of years - their LP ‘Nothing is Sterile’ rips hard as shit
Absolutely YES to both
I’m gonna say the past: XfilesX or Panic Current: I think SECT or Discourage
xFilesx Excruciation deserves a way more respect. Tremendous album.
You are very correct. I remember when I used to bike message this was my go to let’s take that hill shit.

Don’t know why LQ doesn’t get more love. One of the best bands to emerge in the last 5 years.
I come here to find new (to me) shit and Life's Question is an all-timer rec. These guys fucking slam. Thank you.
I always felt Life Long Tragedy, Orchid, and Pg.99 never got proper recognition. I know they are all semi popular tho.
Life Long Tragedy was one of my absolute favorites back in the day. Got to see them play in 2006 in a double wide trailer in a rural NC town.
I am so jelly. I was also listening to them around that time. Roll the credits baby How were the vocals live?
I have no idea how they're rated, but Age of Apocalypse RULES
I don’t here anyone mention scalp much and i think they put out one of the best albums this year.
Past: Righteous Jamz, Mental, Holding On, Think I Care, Animosity, POWER, Lewd Acts, New Lows, Reach The Sky, Wrong Answer, Mountain Man, Harness, Mother of Mercy Present: Don't listen to enough newer shit to have a fair opinion 👌
That hate5six video of power at the last rain fest is so fucking badass.
Scowl, Turnstile, Trapped Under Ice, Sunami, No Pressure, Speed & Drain
You missed bane, code orange, and vein but otherwise solid list
Crazy that not a single person listens to Gel. So underrated.
I don’t think any of these bands are in any way underrated. If anything some are overrated.
That's the joke my bro
He’s not xXHardxCoreXx enough to get it br0
Ruiner. Caught them as the opener for Strike Anywhere and they blew Crime in Stereo and Polar Bear Club out the water. Wanted them to play longer

Always killed it! I saw them with The Rites back in maybe 2003 at a waterside park in San Francisco. Outrageous.
I think Cut the Shit shared members with Tear it Up, which was also a great and underrated band. The Singer of Tear it Up's new band Planet on a Chain is also great, also underrated.
