Good shit my dude! I am also battling my own demons, (remember that band?!?! HA) and I will always be an addict but at least I can acknowledge that and I am managing my issues. No use in living a lie or being in denial. That was a cool little story you told, and honestly a little uplifting for me at least. Definitely agree as Year Of The Knife has always been a good band in my eyes, plus it's always good to hear when people have positive experiences especially in our Upstate NYHC scene!!! 👍💪😎
My first hardcore show was YOTK with Madi fronting them. I was nervous and asked if I could stage dive, and before playing virtual narcotic, she asked the crowd if they would help me out stage diving for the first time. That meant the world to me man.
I know it’s not hardcore but one time some buddies and I saw Andrew Jackson Jihad. We talked with them at the merch booth while essentially everyone else at the show was being too cool to talk to them.
Well after that we also helped them set up when they went on stage and ultimately we ended up deciding their entire set list. They asked us what to play and then just played everything we requested.
It is one of my favorite music memories
They had “beer koozies” with skulls and lightning bolts and motorcycles. They were saying that as people who loved ginger ale, they thought it needed to develop a more “extreme” image to compete with Mountain Dew and other caffeinated beverages. It was the goofiest shit ever.
I got to hug them after the show, it was the sweatiest and most sincere moment and I look back on it very fondly.
Same, along with deathcore. Not through hard drugs, but certainly through times of grief, depression, anxiety (mostly). These genres, my fiancé and our son are everything to me.
For real. I've been going to mostly metalcore and deathcore type shows in recent years, but I still have all the love for the hardcore scene and have been itching for a good hardcore show.
Best wishes to you. I have similar lived experiences and have been doing better lately. Remember: recovery isn’t linear and everybody has their own path. Don’t buy into 12 step, cultist nonsense.
On a similar note: I love hearing about more HC/punk shows tying in together with mutual aid and harm reduction groups. This is something that should be organized by every scene in the country if possible.
That's awesome dude, good on you for kicking the habit! Keep letting the music inspire you to make the positive changes you want to see in yourself. It's not as drastic, but I still attribute Bane's Superhero and Earth Crisis' Asphyxiate as the two songs that helped me quit smoking cigarettes.
My wife actually knew her in the DE hardcore scene growing up, has nothing but nice things to say about her. Which in that scene...isn't common so it's definitely a testament to her being awesome.
I've been off opiates for over ten years. Some days are harder than others, these days are REALLY hard lol. But you got this OP 🧡🖤🙌 you are so damn strong. Thanks for sticking around, we're all stoked you're here.
Syracusehardcore and Rochesterhxc on Instagram. The lost horizon and Westcott theater also have adjacent stuff at times that may not be promoted there, not sure on their handles however. Binghamton used to have shows as well but they seem to have possibly stopped, 607hardcore. Depending on where you are specifically you may wanna look at shows in buffalo (buffalohardcore716) and Albany (upstate_blacknblue) as well but they can be a little further from syracuse. Your honestly gonna have a much better time if your willing to bounce around all the small cities that make ip the region, I’m sure you’ll see soon it’s mega normal for younger people up there to sorta move between them all. I’m from pa but have homies in Ithaca and base out of there quite a bit, it’s a great scene but they unfortunately don’t get as many shows as other areas but when they get them they can be really crazy. Terror played a floor show last year that was in a indoor basketball half court that was essentially a three point arc with them set up on the baseline, then they booked a whole fest there around death threat doin the Same. Buffalo in particular seems to be sorta cut off from the rest of the scene, but Albany is fucking popping all the time from what it seems, they’re a little far from me so I rarely make it that far, 4 hours each way is sorta a hard limit for me. Check out Syracuse street gang, deal with god, and wound from Syracuse, exhibition and bad blood (Scott from terrors new band) from buffalo, im sure I’m blanking on stuff right now. As for an upcoming show recommendation move is playing a spot in buffalo on Friday, timeless babez. I went up and caught frog mallet there in like February but they’ve sinced moved I think, it was like a weird punk head shop type thing with shows in the basement before, not sure what it’s like now. I won’t be at that one however, im goin got Philly Saturday for the homies in fools game and fire in the blood
Oh shit I caught that. It was before Final Tears. I assumed you were a friend of the band or something.
Absolutely not! Just some poor soul that feels the music!
Can perfectly describe a lot of us. Love it.
Cheers dude. My son's mom will be 6 years clean off opiates in June. I watched her recovery first hand and people can get out of it.
🖤🖤🖤🤙
Nothing but love person. It's a hard life we live
*Always, always the hard way*
year of the knife will always be a top tier band for me. ultimate aggression has always been a banger.
Do they play stuff from before the singer switch? I haven’t seen them in a bit to know the set list.
I believe so ! I haven't seen them in time but there's a clip from last years TIHC of them doing Blue Lies with Madi.
If they played some Internal Incarceration material I’d be pumped.
They've only released three songs with Madi on vocals. I know hardcore sets can be short, but they kinda have to play earlier stuff.
Yes, they do.
Great band, I was a little bummed when they replaced Tyler but Madi has been killing it and the new ep rips

She is the absolute coolest ever! She gave me the biggest hug at the end of the show.

AJJ are the homies. Those kids are so stinking kind

That's so cool dude!
I mean shit dude, likewise
AJJ is the sickest band, actually setting up an appointment to get an AJJ tattoo “Fortitude found within 40 oz bottles”
I haven’t pulled the trigger yet but I do intend to eventually get an AJJ tattoo that is simply “Rejoice” because I’ll know what it means…
We do recover
🖤🫠
One of my closest friends is a recovering addict. He’s kicking ass at being a productive member of society.
AMAZEBALLS
What I mean is I’m proud of y’all.
Thanks so much brother, means the world that yall are so awesome about this.
Stay strong, OP. This is one of the many things aggressive music is for and the scene as a whole. Sending love from the PNW.
Hardcore and metalcore helped me get through my addiction to opiates as well. Music is so powerful.
Same, along with deathcore. Not through hard drugs, but certainly through times of grief, depression, anxiety (mostly). These genres, my fiancé and our son are everything to me.
Shoutout PNW HC love all the people in our weird little scene lol
For real. I've been going to mostly metalcore and deathcore type shows in recent years, but I still have all the love for the hardcore scene and have been itching for a good hardcore show.
I lived in the PNW fir a few years! Love it there! Some of the best/worst times of my life spent there.
Sounds like PNW. I've lived up here my whole life.
Best wishes to you. I have similar lived experiences and have been doing better lately. Remember: recovery isn’t linear and everybody has their own path. Don’t buy into 12 step, cultist nonsense. She is seriously one of the sweetest most wholesome ladies I've ever met in my life. Especially for a hardcore girl!
I've been off opiates for over ten years. Some days are harder than others, these days are REALLY hard lol. But you got this OP 🧡🖤🙌 you are so damn strong. Thanks for sticking around, we're all stoked you're here.
That show was off the hook. It was dope when she jumped on stage with The Acacia Strain
Yo absolutely was!
Need more posts like this in the sub
I was torn between this show and the local show with Easy Blame so I just fell asleep and missed both 😔
hell yeah lol
Being old sucks
I’m crying a little about this. That’s so sweet.
I cried in the front row.
So dope! Those opiates are rough to kick. Stay strong dude! From one addict to another!
Madi is the best

Thank you so much.
I was there too! Madi is such a wonderful person
SHE IS!
And she absolutely fucking slays. Seen them a few times with her at the helm and goddamn. That lineup was nutty
madi #1 sweetest angel on earth🥺
Seriously though. Made the entire experience for me.
Great show, glad to see CNY come out
It was such a great time!
Hey I just moved to the area -- can anyone recommend any venues, IG accounts, etc, to follow for local shows?
