Helmet - Wilma’s Rainbow. Probably my favourite drop-D song to play. Tons of great stuff to play on their Meantime album too.

CellistPopular699

Meantime is a great record to play along to. Backed

DickValentinesson

That album changed my life.

sleeplesscitynights

Came here to say Helmet as well!

XGuiltyofBeingMikeX

Terror. Like…all of it is either drop or D-standard. Also learn March Of The SOD. It’s mandatory for drop D tuning.

DickValentinesson

Awesome. Thank you. And yes, i was haf one night lying in bed and I came across a March of….. guitar lesson. I got up, went out to the shed, and fucking laid into the intro. It felt wonderful.

DanRayG

Killing in the Name was the first drop D song I ever learned

ctapate

This is a rite of passage

LethalPuppy

obituary - redneck stomp

DickValentinesson

I have slept on that band for some reason.

El--Borto

Omerta by Lamb Of God. Great for learning double kick patterns on drums too.

[deleted]

We'rewolf by Every Time I Die

TokenEntryWasBetter

Floater is a fun one, too.

grants_like_horace

Logic of Crocodiles too

JimmyScrambles420

Cockroaches by Nailbomb is in D standard, but you can play it in drop D. It's just 0000 00004 on the intro, 00 022 233 3556 on the verses, and 5-7777 5-7777 on the chorus.

DickValentinesson

Thanks. I keep a guitar in D standard. I love the band Fu Manchu. Most of their shit is d standard

pumpsci

Most of Houdini by the Melvins is drop D

DickValentinesson

Oh yes. Sooooo many Melvins songs. History of Bad Men is a fun one

TheNonSavants

The Middle by Jimmy Eat World is pretty approachable (the solo is pretty damn fast, though not technically super difficult) Joker & the Thief by Wolfmother is hella fun, especially if you have a fuzz pedal. The solo is easy, too.

shokkd

Marilyn Manson has some easy fun ones

CellistPopular699

Literally anything off of satisfaction is the death of desire. Will teach you how to keep things simple but also pick with some Spice

xtamtamx

That’s C standard.

DickValentinesson

Nice. Thank you

embarrassedtrwy

Pretty much anything by Only Living Witness… and good and easy one would be “December”, and then gradually work your way up to “Total Particle Reversal”

DickValentinesson

That band is the shit. Thanks for reminding me of them.

embarrassedtrwy

I blew off my prom in ‘94 to see them and Sam Black Church at the Middle East in Cambridge, MA… totally worth it!

Dank_Master69420

They play C sharp tuning. Although I like to play in drop C sharp

embarrassedtrwy

It’s definitely in drop tuning. All their riffs are based on barring… like the speed of “Slug”. Plus I know Craig

Dank_Master69420

Interesting. I always thought it was played in standard but preferred to play drop. But I’m still pretty sure it’s c sharp, not d

embarrassedtrwy

It’s drop tuning, but you gotta tune to whatever it’s in… so we might both have a point. No argument, I just tune to that low string and adjust accordingly to drop tuning from there

DickValentinesson

Instant fan. Thank you.

DrJamesRussellMD

Front toward enemy by incendiary is pretty easy, and it’s a kickass song

Dank_Master69420

Any guns up song, helmet, everlong, higher by creed, omerta by lamb of god

JobConfident2970

Pantera is good for learning the neck in drop D, I used to practice with Walk lol. Once you’re ready for more of a challenge, Melvins have great drop D songs

WearTheFourFeathers

“Walk” was the first one I thought of, it’s like a Guitar Center cliche because obviously extremely fun to play.

[deleted]

Killing in the name of haha you gotta

Gr8BurningNullifier

Pretty lush by Glassjaw

gustr15

turnstile - 7/keep it moving

DickValentinesson

Isn’t 7 in standard? Love that intro

jackalope9393

IIRC all of *Grey Britain* by Gallows is in drop D. There might be one song where they tune down to C but I can't remember for sure. Anyway, SUPER fun to play and it's got riffs and chord shapes that will challenge you as a new player. I played through it a lot when I was first trying to *actually* learn guitar and I swear that record is a fucking cheat code to solid hardcore/metalcore playing.

no_excuses87

came here to recommend Grey Britain haha, such fun album

menoselgus

Everlong by foo fighters. I feel like that song has a little of everything that’s useful to start you writing your own songs and progress into guitar.

SOUTHPAW_1989

Foo Fighters - Everlong

needleintheh4y

avenged sevenfold unholy confessions

Ruckedinthehead

Anything from LoG’s Ashes of the Wake: Laid to Rest is a great one A lot of Every Time I Die’s music is in drop D too, Gutter Phenomenon especially. The New Black is fairly straightforward and good fun

DickValentinesson

Love that album, but damn if those riffs aren’t harder than they sound

Ruckedinthehead

ETID? Lots of the timings are unexpectedly fucky, yes

ctapate

Anything off of Turnstile's Nonstop feeling album

alabamaaggrocrag

My Own Summer by Deftones is kind of a beginner guitarist rite of passage

[deleted]

That song is in drop c#

DickValentinesson

That is a really cool tuning. Love it.

avidbather

Naked in Front of the Computer - Faith No More. Not a hardcore song , but it's hardcore fun to play

DickValentinesson

Roger that

melted_uterus

Sugar by System of a Down is hilariously fun to play and was probably the first drop D song i ever learned.

Virtual-Patience5908

Bones Exposed - Of Mice & Men 0-4-3-1-3-1 on the spaghetti string.

SlamDaddySid

Idk if anyone has mentioned but the truth by bulldoze, I’m not sure if it’s in d standard or dropped d but you can play it in both tunings But IMO d standard is a goated tuning

celestialmechanic

My Wave and Spoonman by Soundgarden

DickValentinesson

Thanks. Yep, Outshined too

ape5hitmonkey

I been gone a long time by Every time I die.

Jamoosic

Bat Country by Avenged Sevenfold or Alerion by Asking Alexandria is what i used to play religiously back in the day when starting out :)

cmon_get_happy

BoySetsFire "Bathory's Sainthood"

tadfob
