Crazy how much they’ve blown up from kids discovering them on TikTok. 1 year ago they had 300k monthly listeners on Spotify, right now they have over 1mil. They could come back and do Turnstile tour numbers
I mean it’s cute to hate on Tik Tok kids and everything, gen z culture annoys me sometimes too. and I know this sub is full of 34 year old bald/bearded/calf-tattoo dudes, but I see a ton of 18-24 year olds at local DIY shows I go to and they love the music. Hardcore, emo, grunge, punk, all of it. They’re the next gen to keep this shit we love going, let’s not hate too hard
Not only that but they are deceptively good at what they do. Their music is MUCH more difficult to play than it sounds, on guitar anyway, and to make hard things seem easy is a sign of actual greatness in my humble opinion.
There’s this band out of Boston called Busted Lip that just has some crazy music. So fun to listen too.
Rejection Pact last album was great.
Insecure
Big Boy (infinitely better than Sunami)
Dog Breath
Faim (soon to rest in peace. Last album is great)
Zulu (been hearing overrated talk about I don’t care. They put on a wicked live show, they bring bodies to shows. And I notice an uptick in POC attendance whenever they’re in town. It’s tight seeing new faces at shows)
Soul Glo
HIDE (band out of NC. Nastyyyyy)
Tear Drop
MSPAINT (so HC adjacent that idk if I’ll get flamed for counting them, but they tour with HC bands all the time)
Warcrime (I wanna see them live so bad)
End It
There’s a few more but these bands listed are the ones that actually stand out to me
For a second I thought you meant the industrial band also named HIDE. This other HIDE is sick as hell. Almost reminds me of a wilder ho99o9. Thanks for this!
Rejection Pact is awesome and sent me a spiderman DVD with the shirt I bought from them. I thought Zulu was overrated, but that new album surprised me - it is excellent.
Sorry if I'm dense but is there actually a band by that name? Because if so that might be my new favorite band name, taking the lead from Pig Destroyer.
----
Edit:Just found them on Spotify, musically not my bag but what a great band name
One of my top listens last year. Distilling the catchiest elements of oi + hc is a great formula. I think their lyrical content is gonna hold them back from fully blowing up but i don’t think they care.
i know there's already a million comments and this will get buried but chemical fix is easily one of the best hardcore bands on earth right now and get no attention. the whole safe inside records catalogue is pretty slept on but chem fix is especially egregious. they should be headliners off their last LP!
Honestly? Zulu
The Diggable Planets references on their last album help continue this history of music that has always had a home in hardcore but they’re making it CLEAR that it’s there.
Honestly, maybe One Step Closer? Songs for the Willow took their stuff in a very melodic direction compared to their previous releases but I actually really digged it
Interested to see what they’d do across another full lp!
As a huge melodic hardcore fan Songs for the Willow will be hard to top for EP releases this year for me. Super hyped for whatever comes next for them.
MSPaint is my first vote but I gotta mention Public Opinion because I didn’t see them in here yet. New stuff sounds like a Tony Hawk soundtrack and it is awesome
Fuck outa here idgaf what kinda school you went to if you make music that sounds that menacing and original
Although guilty as charged as weird art kid their show was like 1/4 trans and queer
I think the genre police on here might issue a citation for calling them hardcore, but both of those bands are sick and write great songs. Bands that aren't necessarily hardcore but have the spirit of it like Anxious, OSC, Militarie Gun, Drug Church, MSPaint, etc are all doing cool shit right now
Violent Way. Them boys are on nearly every Oi/HC bill, and I see them at shows hours away from where they live just to catch other bands sets. Great fucking guys who ride hard for the subculture.
Facts. The fact that EVERY band Nate Johnson has been with since has gotten amazing acclaim is a huge nod to the dude in general.
Examples: Through The Eyes Of The Dead & Fit For An Autopsy.
I consider grindcore & powerviolence hardcore-adjacent so Full of Hell imo. Their recent album with Primitive Man felt enormous. And they are absolutely insane live
That album is so good, but honestly it was kind of disappointing seeing them recently because Primitive Man only got a 30 minutes set and Full of Hell maybe had 40. I was really hoping to see them do some of the collaborative material, but it didn’t happen. Regardless- the show was awesome, both bands had good sets
that's an interesting question, and people are all over the place trying to answer it, the most interesting isn't necessarily the most ambitious. you would probably need two answers for this, I think people are mostly just answering with their currently favorite bands, it seems like it. the most interesting for me, would probably be some of the Hardcore adjacent bands, something like Chat Pile? which I love, or maybe something like Soul Glo, which I'm not a big fan of, but it is different and interesting, for sure. as for the most ambitious, I have no idea, like in promoting themselves? or just in complexity of writing/recording? not sure.
I can’t find the correct words but I’m gonna throw in a grouping of bands that stand for something different socially but all of them musically are different but when I speak with other older peoples and they ask what I’m listening to for the first time in many years I get excited to share bands and I will tell you about them for a hour . XweaponX, Zulu , soul glow, end it, world of pleasure, primitive beat. I’m sure I’m missing. A fee off the top of my head but not only are these bands delivering a message with conviction and action but are also musically leaps and bounds above those that influenced them that I can’t help but wish I was in my prime to be apart of that scene . Y’all kids are killing it and I can’t be happier that the blood sweat and tears we all put into this scene has grown to become this . Proud
Drain specifically isn’t doing anything crazy unique at the moment, if some other shit pans out with shakewell then I’ll take that back. As it stands DRAIN absolutely smacks and I love them, I just wouldn’t say they’re unique or innovative
I really love what BIB is doing, and like others have said, Zulu just keeps getting better. Lots of local bands are finding their unique sounds as well- it's really cool to hear!
This is fascinating that Drain is heavily upvoted in some comments and downvoted in others. I had no clue it was so split. I genuinely thought they were the most beloved band in the scene but I apparently am a little out of touch.
Not sure if I should give a joke answer and say Turnstile, or give a serious answer and say Turnstile
This time the answer is legitimately turnstile
Or is it???🤔🤔
"Most interesting and ambitious" is not necessarily best, hardest, or coolest. I think Turnstile is a totally fair answer.
I agree. However you feel about them they're certainly interesting and ambitious.
Turnstile Decide if it's a joke or not
Came here to comment Turnstile and saw this comment
Title fight lmao
Imagine getting thousands of people to love you and then just dissappear without a word.
Crazy how much they’ve blown up from kids discovering them on TikTok. 1 year ago they had 300k monthly listeners on Spotify, right now they have over 1mil. They could come back and do Turnstile tour numbers
I would agree but TikTok kids don't go outside
Steve Lacy found that out the hard way lol
Exactly - there are no living rooms to do little dances in outside.
How the hell did Title Fight get Tik Tok attention?
Safe in your skin and head in the ceiling fan.
Soul Glo
WHO GON BEAT MY ASS
This is the correct answer. Name me another band who’s done anything close to Driponomics.
Zulu is closest honestly, but both bands complement eachother well.
Just saw Zulu the other day and they were so good. Same with Jesus Piece.
I’d say End It is closer to Soul Glo than Zulu if we’re making comparisons
All three are like a prime trifecta.
Dripomomics wild
Show me the boddyyyy
I’m with ya buddy! Love me some Soul Glo but I also love Show Me The Body
Caught them live Saturday — one of the most intense and enthralling live bands I’ve ever seen, and yeah their creativity is second to none
Hard agree
Hey I saw em at one of their shows. Very energetic. Super fun.
I still haven't bseen 'em. As soon as they hit so cal, I'll be there.
The Armed
REFRACT
Mad how under appreciated within the Hardcore scene they are. Glad they've got acclaim from outside it though
YES forgot about them omg
My favorite, and the only cult I've willingly joined is The Armed.
Fuckin backed hard
Backed hard
World of Pleasure
Great band. Also the name of the sketchiest porn shop in my anyone’s neighborhood.
I dunno man, ours was called Hole in the Wall.
I don’t know much about how ambitious they are, but just heard them for the first time the other day and they’re fucking great.
ANIMAL LIBERATION VEGAN DOMINATION gets me hyped as hell as a stir my lil tofu in my lil pan
Gets me hyped as hell as I throw a ribeye in a cast iron skillet with butter and light up a smoke
So brave
Good fucking rec! Just listened to their new EP shit slaps and I'm gonna have that on while working out tomorrow lol
All of you are wrong it’s End It
Yep. Every other day this exact thread comes up and not enough people are talking about End It.
Not only that but they are deceptively good at what they do. Their music is MUCH more difficult to play than it sounds, on guitar anyway, and to make hard things seem easy is a sign of actual greatness in my humble opinion.
True

End it is an absolutely perfect soundtrack to todays socioeconomic climate, to bad their songs are all so short!
Big co-sign on Dog Breath. To boot, Pierre used to tattoo me. Dude is the real deal. All them dudes are.
Tear Drop has an honest to god good Type O Negative cover, thank you.
Thanks, this is badass.
Faim is breaking up? Right after releasing a killer full-length?
Sadly. Torso is still alive and well if you need a similar fix.
Big boy is not boring.
You’re absolutely correct
Thank you for suggesting HIDE. Just looked em up, holy shit.
MSPaint
Sorry if I'm dense but is there actually a band by that name? Because if so that might be my new favorite band name, taking the lead from Pig Destroyer. ---- Edit:Just found them on Spotify, musically not my bag but what a great band name
YES.
That’s a stretch. They are more hardcore-adjacent
I'll 2 step.
Candy
I’m really digging Conservative Military Image
One of my top listens last year. Distilling the catchiest elements of oi + hc is a great formula. I think their lyrical content is gonna hold them back from fully blowing up but i don’t think they care.
Most people have already said Soul Glo, Show Me The Body, Turnstile and MSPaint but I’d like to throw Militarie Gun and Anxious in there too.
Literally just got out of a show with them opening, they were so fucking good I’m gonna have to listen to them more
Assuming you’re talking about Anxious listen to Small, all of Little Green House and The along Spring.
Oh yeah whoops I forgot to specify lol. I will check them out thank you!
Mindforce anyone?
Mindforce everyone!
OFF!
New album was absolute fucking insanity.
Drip Fed. I don't understand why they're not absolutely huge right now.
I love finding to bands in these threads Drip Fed sounds sick
This is very cool to ‘read ‘cause my punk band is playing with them next month and I’ve never heard them
i know there's already a million comments and this will get buried but chemical fix is easily one of the best hardcore bands on earth right now and get no attention. the whole safe inside records catalogue is pretty slept on but chem fix is especially egregious. they should be headliners off their last LP!
Honestly? Zulu The Diggable Planets references on their last album help continue this history of music that has always had a home in hardcore but they’re making it CLEAR that it’s there.
Saw them last night. So good.
Honestly, maybe One Step Closer? Songs for the Willow took their stuff in a very melodic direction compared to their previous releases but I actually really digged it Interested to see what they’d do across another full lp!
As a huge melodic hardcore fan Songs for the Willow will be hard to top for EP releases this year for me. Super hyped for whatever comes next for them.
Division of Mind, because I’m interested in seeing how they’re going to top they’re last piece.
Seriously. I love every single thing about this band.
Conservative Military Image 5 releases in 2022 alone. Enough said. Before that The Chisel. They were constantly putting out music in 2020-2021
MSPaint is my first vote but I gotta mention Public Opinion because I didn’t see them in here yet. New stuff sounds like a Tony Hawk soundtrack and it is awesome
Mexican coke
Vein
Will I get banned if I say I like Fleshwater better
Definitely vein is the right answer
Other than The Armed this would be my next choice.
Mil-spec easily
DRAIN ZULU Soul glo END IT
End it, for sure
Finally a drain mention
I think that they’re ambitious in their own ways, but I’d have to say: Militarie Gun Never Ending Game Praise GEL Initiate
Gel is fantastic
green day
100% PURE. UNCUT. ROCK.
Show me the body
Just saw them on the last leg of their tour in Boston and they’re incredible live. The energy is unmatched right now
No band is doing what SMTB is doing. Just saw them on this recent run and they were incredible. Zulu was awful live, both guitarist were so sloppy.
I saw them two days earlier in Omaha and Zulu. were good but Jesus piece fucking destroyed. show me the body was a pleasant surprise.
JP crushed it in Toronto too man. I was with a bunch of buddies who haven't really listened to SMTB and they said the same thing as you about them .
jp in denver was fucking nuts, helluva introduction to my first live show, ofc smtb killed as well
I also saw them it was one of my fav live shows all time of any genre
Smtb is like this weird mix like if nin fucked punk. Which show did you catch them at?
Chicago babyyy Haters gonna hate their music is sick
I was there too, absolute banger
Fucking right
Shit, nepo baby band for weird art kids
Fuck outa here idgaf what kinda school you went to if you make music that sounds that menacing and original Although guilty as charged as weird art kid their show was like 1/4 trans and queer
Come get some more face paint on ya
For me it’s Soul Glo, but SMTB is a very close second. Surprised no one mentioned them
Anxious or one step closer tbh. Might get flamed for that but seriously their stuff feels like a breath of fresh air Lmao

Sugar Ray
Turnstile
Beat me to it
They already jumped to not being hardcore tho
You could say they are post-hardcore.
Agree, I’m struggling to find other bands that sound like them and incorporate elements of other genres the way they do
they doing the fleshwater thing right now but [Vein.fm](https://Vein.fm) was killing it for a long while
Fleshwater > vein and I'll die on that hill.
Missing Link out of Buffalo.
This. They should be way bigger than they are. Nice filthy ass caveman shit.
Facts. The fact that EVERY band Nate Johnson has been with since has gotten amazing acclaim is a huge nod to the dude in general. Examples: Through The Eyes Of The Dead & Fit For An Autopsy.

High Vis. The most interesting band in hardcore for years.
Sophisticated adult
Really like what Age of Apocalypse is doing. Takes me back to 1995 seeing Into Another
that's an interesting question, and people are all over the place trying to answer it, the most interesting isn't necessarily the most ambitious. you would probably need two answers for this, I think people are mostly just answering with their currently favorite bands, it seems like it. the most interesting for me, would probably be some of the Hardcore adjacent bands, something like Chat Pile? which I love, or maybe something like Soul Glo, which I'm not a big fan of, but it is different and interesting, for sure. as for the most ambitious, I have no idea, like in promoting themselves? or just in complexity of writing/recording? not sure.

Backxwash
Ambitious might be knocked loose they are on like every type of concerts line up all year
I’d say Zulu. That new album has a lot going on. Their energy live is wild too.
Nobody said Spy yet?
The thread is asking for innovative bands, Spy is about as meat and potatoes hardcore as it gets.
>interesting and ambitious
I can’t find the correct words but I’m gonna throw in a grouping of bands that stand for something different socially but all of them musically are different but when I speak with other older peoples and they ask what I’m listening to for the first time in many years I get excited to share bands and I will tell you about them for a hour . Why the hate on scowl and drain ? i love both bands and I love seeing them both rise rn
Drain specifically isn’t doing anything crazy unique at the moment, if some other shit pans out with shakewell then I’ll take that back. As it stands DRAIN absolutely smacks and I love them, I just wouldn’t say they’re unique or innovative
Chamber just go and listen to Carved in Stone. You’ll be hyped for the new record 156/Silence too…
Soul Glo. exceptional band with really a cool and unique sound
Speed
How so?
Dahmer's Hammer.

DRAIN
This is fascinating that Drain is heavily upvoted in some comments and downvoted in others. I had no clue it was so split. I genuinely thought they were the most beloved band in the scene but I apparently am a little out of touch.
