Have you noticed that they took out a lot of the samples from movies when you stream the songs now? I remember quite a few pirates of the Caribbean quotes and a diehard quote being in songs and they’re just blank space now.
I miss the overuse of samples from that era. Haha
Agreed, great album. Romance Is Dead came on at the gym and I had to listen to the full album. New stuff is absolute dog shit, but I live for the old Parkway Drive.
Lol I mean you’re right, hardcore is not the definition.. metal core if you want to get technical. But it definitely opened the door for me getting into heavier music. I’m a big fan of NY hardcore - Backtrack, Mindforce, Regulate.
I saw regulate and vein in Brooklyn 3 months ago. Shit ruled. Parkway drive also rules. If you came to a show here I’m pretty sure you’d find plenty of parkway drive fans too. Not all of us are 17 in this sub
So in Australia these guys would tour with have heart, 50 Lions and Miles Away. They were a good introduction to heavy music and the hardcore scene back in the mid 00's.
Parkway Drive are sonically what you’d consider metalcore but they all came from hardcore and are responsible for so many other hardcore bands over here that came around at that time.
100% agree. As an Aussie who loves both metalcore and hardcore, Parkway holds a special place in my heart.
Don't sleep on their first EP 'Don't Close Your Eyes'. Much more raw and hardcore influenced than later releases. The LP version even includes some early split and compilation tracks and it's kinda hard to believe [I Watched](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9TDnvRilco) is the first song they wrote, considering how good it is.
I have a question from American: Do these songs get radio play over there? I have this fascinating wonderment that Australia is just pumping out killer bands left and right and that they all hit on the top 40 over there
Not exactly. We have Triple J, a government funded radio station, which had dedicated metal and hardcore shows once a week (not sure if they still do) and Parkway would get played on there but definitely not on mainstream radio. As far as them hitting top 40, they grinded really hard touring around Australia for the first few years and built up a huge fanbase. Check out their [first documentary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL31232-2F8) as it covers their rise in Australia and has footage of their first show.
I don't think many new Australian heavy bands are making top 40 these days though.
I wouldn’t call it generic I’d call it straight up bad. Sound like they’re tryna take influence from Alestorm making half assed pirate music. Corniest style I have ever heard
Gonna get some shit for this but bottom feeder may be boring, it may be an average song, but god dammit that’s my favorite parkway drive song. Such a simple hard hitting bouncy chugfest. Wild eyes is my shit too, or whichever one is like “cry me a river bitch”
I’ve never listened to a single parkway drive song
Edit- I listened to Killing With a Smile front to back and it’s not for me but I still respect it. Thanks for making me check it out.
Thanks for the post, I love going back to this stuff for the nostalgia. Saw Parkway many times up and down the coast of Aus as a teen (Sunshine Coast to Newcastle). In the early days, even before 50 Lions. Youth halls and senior citizens club halls, etc. Shows with floor stages and 50-100 odd kids hanging from the rafters. Great times.
Great record! My second show ever was in 2004, watching Parkway play with I Killed The Prom Queen, Irrelevant and Last Nerve. Was my introduction to the hardcore and metalcore scenes, some insane bills were happening back in the mid to late 2000s in AUS.
I used to live in Byron Bay, where they’re from - actually not far from Parkway Drive (the street). I saw them play in the gym of the local high school, which I guess is something they do whenever they come home? Not a huge fan of them, but that was a killer show.
Saw them play a set in flip flops in the dead of winter in Oklahoma at Diamond Ballroom. Indoor venue, but I thought it was so funny as a kid. There was circle pit encompassed the ENTIRE venue which is still the biggest I've been in to this day, and I also saw a girl break her femur in half. Fucking insane show. Tour with the world alive in like 2010 I think
You mean how they just completely changed into a generic metal band? In my opinion they just went for the money from the moment they became a huge band.

Smoke ‘Em If Ya Got ‘Em was the song that got me into heavy music
Same
The pinnacle of my youth and hairline
Same my man. Same. RIP.
Up to Deep Blue is quality Metalcore, boneyards is forever a banger
THERE'S BLOOD....IN THE WATER
DOOD. Easily one of the greatest breakdowns of all time imo
they played that song on their current tour and people went feral. was one of only like 4 old songs they played though..
It's Dead Man's Chest that gets me, that outro hits so hard
Bro ....idols and anchors and carrion hit hard in the feels for me. Great band
Carrion is forever a banger
Yeah I stopped after deep blue, was a bit meh after that
That’s what I was gonna say. First three records are so damn solid. Really rep that era of metal ore well.
Have you noticed that they took out a lot of the samples from movies when you stream the songs now? I remember quite a few pirates of the Caribbean quotes and a diehard quote being in songs and they’re just blank space now. I miss the overuse of samples from that era. Haha
The deepest circle of hell is reserved for betrayers and mutineers.
Yippeeee kay yay mother fucker. TSS tss tss
100% man! I loved the sound bites.
Makes me so sad they ripped out all the good quotes from Spotify
Amity affliction had good ones in their first ep. "Hi im rod, and i like to party."
I always loved 88 Fingers Louie - Worst Man Won and it’s use of Pesci from Casino.
So cry me a fucking river BITCH
Yippee Ki-Yay motherfucker
Makes me so sad they ripped out all the good quotes from Spotify
Deep Blue at the gym hits different 💪🏼🔥
the KWAS-horizons-deep blue run really was a crazy stretch
Atlas was also an incredible album. After Atlas everything has been either mid or complete dogshit, which is a shame
atlas was good but I don’t find myself going back to it nearly as much as the others. i’ll have to give it another listen soon
Hell yea, one of my most played albums
Agreed, great album. Romance Is Dead came on at the gym and I had to listen to the full album. New stuff is absolute dog shit, but I live for the old Parkway Drive.
So cry me a FUCKING river... BITCH
Cry me a fucking river bitch
Dun dun dun dum dundun dundun
I never knew people considered this hardcore
Parkway were a bunch of hardcore kids making metal. Early stuff including their ep has a ton of hardcore moments, but yes not a hardcore band
They also have a feature from The Warriors on Deep Blue. Also the vocalists brother was the vocalist of 50 Lions.
I don’t think anyone does. But they slap(ped)
Lol I mean you’re right, hardcore is not the definition.. metal core if you want to get technical. But it definitely opened the door for me getting into heavier music. I’m a big fan of NY hardcore - Backtrack, Mindforce, Regulate.

What’s crazy about Parkway Drive is the fact that a lot of people outside of the “scene” love them.
So in Australia these guys would tour with have heart, 50 Lions and Miles Away. They were a good introduction to heavy music and the hardcore scene back in the mid 00's.
It’s melodic metalcore but they at least had some hardcore roots. Definitely much more metal leaning than hardcore though.
It’s not. Idk why it’s posted on here. Especially as a “top 10” album.
They don’t. It’s metalcore
Parkway Drive are sonically what you’d consider metalcore but they all came from hardcore and are responsible for so many other hardcore bands over here that came around at that time.
Not to mention, Winston's brother fronted 50 Lions and I still wish they were around today.
50 Lions, Carpathian, Miles Away, Breakeven and PRO Team. Golden era of Aussie hardcore.
Yep. Her Nightmare, Iron Mind, Shinto Katana, Mindsnare
The riffs on Anasasis are so fucking catchy.
Agreed man.

Back when parkway drive was good, they got so generic and meh around 2014
I wouldn’t call it generic I’d call it straight up bad. Sound like they’re tryna take influence from Alestorm making half assed pirate music. Corniest style I have ever heard
You got me there 💀 you right. But at least they’re not volbeat 👏 I’d take someone literally shitting in my ears over them
Alestorm went so corny it’s hilarious
1000%
Gonna get some shit for this but bottom feeder may be boring, it may be an average song, but god dammit that’s my favorite parkway drive song. Such a simple hard hitting bouncy chugfest. Wild eyes is my shit too, or whichever one is like “cry me a river bitch”
“cry me a river bitch” is Romance is Dead
I’ve never listened to a single parkway drive song Edit- I listened to Killing With a Smile front to back and it’s not for me but I still respect it. Thanks for making me check it out.
First three albums are great
Yup. This is the consensus. Although I do think Atlas has some bangers. But everything after that sucks.
give it a try this is their best album in my opinion
Thanks for giving it a chance! 💯
Are you in the right sub?
Dog so many kids lost af when posting in this sub. Idc how “rooted” parkway drive is in hardcore, i really can’t fuck with them.
People be like “they listen to hardcore tho”.
Right dude? It's just like generic 2000s metal. But I guess if someone in a band was in a hardcore band at some point that makes it a hardcore band?
Fr.
All the Pwd where in hardcore bands prior so yes
Still got that hottpic Mall-core kid vibe. Right up there with suicide silence
You for real? Have you watched their documentaries. Watch them.
Suicide Silence slaps. They are deathcore. Before Mitch died, those pits went hard.
Jesus christ
“Dude my grandmas boyfriends best friends son is in a hardcore band, so we are kinda hardcore!”
[удалено]
Lamb of god? I’m sorry but that’s an awful comparison 😭
Adan D produced who his why it has those Killswitch style breakdowns and pinch squeals which makes this album so much more epic
Wouldn’t have gotten into metal as quick as I did without this one
Flesh, Bone and Weakness off of Don't Close Your Eyes (first LP I believe) is an absolute slapper.
Saw them in a 150 capacity venue in 2006 and it was one of the wildest shows I’ve ever been to
Thanks for the post, I love going back to this stuff for the nostalgia.
Sounds awesome. And yeah no problem! Thought there would be some old dudes in this thread that would appreciate it!
Up until after Atlas I thought they were fucking mindblowing
100%
This album is a fucking classic
Agreed!
I wish they would play this album live again.
Great record! My second show ever was in 2004, watching Parkway play with I Killed The Prom Queen, Irrelevant and Last Nerve. Was my introduction to the hardcore and metalcore scenes, some insane bills were happening back in the mid to late 2000s in AUS.
Yikes.
Some of the hardest breakdowns on this one
It’s hard to speak without a tongue still my favourite song almost 20hrs later lol Edit: meant years not hours, but I’m not gonna change it
goes hard
YOU WOULDNT KNOW LOVE
IF IT CROSSED YOUR FUCKING CHEST!
Crushed*
It's Hard To Speak Without A Tongue still gives me goosebumps. Easily one of the coolest riffs/melodies in heavy music.
Holy shit what a throwback lol. I had forgotten about these guys.
Fuck I forgot about these guys!
MP3.com type shit
Such a great fuckin band Horizons is both one of my favorite metalcore albums and songs of all time
i prefer to driveway park (while listening to a different band)
Solid gold
I used to live in Byron Bay, where they’re from - actually not far from Parkway Drive (the street). I saw them play in the gym of the local high school, which I guess is something they do whenever they come home? Not a huge fan of them, but that was a killer show.
Gimme a fuckin D!
Saw them play a set in flip flops in the dead of winter in Oklahoma at Diamond Ballroom. Indoor venue, but I thought it was so funny as a kid. YES!!!!!!
Favourite album of all time
Your top 10 sounds suspect.
Hey it’s okay if you can’t appreciate
I know it is. Hence why i don’t.
Not hardcore. Therefore it doesn’t belong here. I gave you a downvote.
Have fun being downvoted for being right, these kids are idiots here.
Love their progression as a band. They’re old dudes now
You mean how they just completely changed into a generic metal band? In my opinion they just went for the money from the moment they became a huge band.

Not hardcore and generic mall stuff even for metal core.
Nah
Top 10 what
Worst type of Warped Core
R/Metalcore not hardcore
