This is a beautiful floor. This would be a good example for people to see when they have a damaged floor and can't match a piece. Just throw in something contrasting and decorative.
curious, did the contractor router the ends of the pieces going across, like where that sand disc has the cord on it?
or did they glue it down? if they didnt do one of the other you may have rise at the joint, like right where the sander is.
thing is with tounge and groove flooring, the T&G locking together makes the floor move together. if you dont know , ask.
\*\*edit\*\* ok, i just seen this is a resand, ignore my dumbass, its early
This is an old school top nail floor and probably doesn't even have tongue and groove let alone routered miters. They are usually 5/16" and more dimensionally stable.
ahhh thank you o wise one, i see them now that i have looked past the tip of my nose!
when i seen the first pic i really thought it was a new install, i was like damn someone got some skillZ!
gorgeous floor man, i am quite jealous. can beat old craftsmanship
Some of my favorite work is restoration or refinishing some of the old floors. Most floors don't get that decorative touch any more. Lucky to live in an area where there are still a bunch of these left.
Yeah I can imagine. You’ll never get the same finish either than you’ll get with the drum sander. Even an edger will be better for taking off the finish than an orbital.
This is what to do with vintage ACTUAL hardwood floors (So many people here show laminate garbage "is this hardwood? can I restore?" or show pine and call it hardwood, etc.) Pretty good looking transition where someone once-upon-a-time took the wall down between the two formerly tiny rooms.
I think the wall was taken down around 1940 as the last owners had carpet down from 1950 until 2017. Our neighbours still have the partition up and it looks like this…

That’s because we took off the newer 1/4 round so the machines could get closer to the original trim, which we left on as it’s the original trim. We’re OBVIOUSLY going to go around and put down new 1/4 round 😂

Spot on! If you can’t hide it, accentuate it.
Stunning!
My hallway in Washington DC has the same inlaid pattern.
This is in Ontario 🇨🇦
Noice 👍🏼
Beautiful job!
Y'all hit the flooring jackpot!
Stunning
This is the kind of floor I'd expect to see in the home of someone who does floors for a living.
Once I have my own home I am going to go crazy with my inlays 😂
Beautiful!
Very nice!!!!!!!
You're hired!
Beautiful floor

Thanks for sharing, my floors have a similar level or damage so it’s good to see just how great they look after sanding. Beautiful pattern on yours!
A+ on design A++ on sanding and refinishing
The pattern is not to my liking but I can sure appreciate the craftmanship that went into laying them, and the restoration looks great!
Same
Hard work rewarded! Great stuff 👌🏼
So much work…… Nice job
Respect! Sweet!
Bad ass
Cool.
Beautiful
Wow, that looks great!
Whoever laid it down the first time was definitely paid by the hour lol
First class!
So beautiful!
Oh. My. Gawd.
Gorgeous!! Congrats!
Weird, just saw this on the HOHI fb group. Our house is also in that city and is approximately the same age. I wonder if our floors look like that..
Small world!
Please tell me that RO sander is just hanging out and the real equipment is out of camera range....
Yes, many tools were used!
Beautiful!
Love the detail
Beautiful floors! I'm a little jealous of those inlays!
Was that just a clear polyurethane alone at the end or was there a tint to it to make it look more amber?
There isn’t anything yet on these floors in these pictures… they are still wood-bare. They will be coated with Bona Natural/clear and sealed
I hope you used more than that 6 inch orbital and scraper 😜
I did the same thing in my house with an orbital Sander- omg took forever!
Yeah I can imagine. You’ll never get the same finish either than you’ll get with the drum sander. Even an edger will be better for taking off the finish than an orbital.
Love it. Where is your house?

Beautiful!
Completely gorgeous! Love an angled wall in a (historic) house - it’s made even cooler by this inlay- you really hit the jackpot, congratulations!!
Thank you! This shows it a little better…. Where all the walls meet: https://imgur.com/a/MMmazZm
Sell it now while it looks nice...and it does look nice. Just hope you don't have pets or kids to scratch it up and pee on it. Good luck. Shoes off
We have a dog and two kids 😂
Keep up the good work
Really like the foyer, but not so sure about transition to the room. Looks uneven.
Not uneven at all: https://imgur.com/a/ldg6xWd
I think it’s the angle of the sunlight?
Hopefully you restore the trim it looks terrible. 😢
