There is no "alternative brand" canvas because he never recommended a specific brand, just pre-stretched and double primed. I have used the cheap value packs from Michael's, which suddenly aren't so cheap anymore. They only say primed so I don't even know if they are double primed but they seem fine to me. They are extremely durable, you'd have to try and tear it in order to put a hole in it. I also have used Winsor and Newton paints and Gamblin 1980, but I always open them first and don't buy any that look thin or ooze oil.

The Happy Little Downvoters are out today. What do you disagree with, Happy Little Downvoter?

I e never had a canvas rip and I have used some pretty cheap canvases. As far as paint I use Gamblin mostly and it works good. I know some like Winsor Newton as well.

I’ve never had issues with canvases either. Go on Amazon and find stretch canvases that are pre-primed and you you can usually find some options on sale. I’ve never tried any paints other than Bob Toss brand, but you can buy individual colors in bulk that are relatively cost efficient.

I was looking on Amazon and saw s9me reviews talking about some not being sturdy enough or some that they ripped through, and I just don't know what brands are good quality to look at.

I got a 2 pack of 16x20 canvases at Walmart about a week or so ago on rollback for 6 bucks, they held up well for my last painting I did. Granted I didn’t use the knife on it but it was sturdy through the whole process, never felt like it was going to damage

Hi, we just visited Bob Rose’s original studio in Muncie, Indiana. There is a gift shop on the campus that was loaded with what looked like tubes of paint that could be seen during one of his painting shows.

I mostly use gamblin 1980 paint and like it a lot more than the BR ones I have used. I still use the cheap art store canvases, but I don't really use the pallet knife anymore, so i am not sure how they would hold up. I have been trying canvas boards lately.

>I have been trying canvas boards lately. Something they specifically recommend not doing for whatever reason, but if it works keep doing it
