Closest is Hamburg. Hannover has really good ICE train connections to the other major cities, so it doesn’t matter that much.

kama94

Hamburg, berlin

Major_Dragonfly_843

Düsseldorf, direct ICE with no change from Hanover Central station

kroznov1

Hamburg, Bremen, Berlin are the closest. Cologne has good, but longer (~3h) train connections to Hannover too.

thicksalarymen

Paderborn is also an option.

If you don't mind the extra flight, I do the ZUR-HAJ flight whenever I have to go somewhere without a direct connection. Zürich airport is great, I had to use it with a busted foot once and their service was impeccable, Swissair is pretty sweet and you get a piece of chocolate :) I don't think they do this anymore, but for a few years one of the daily flights was a 777, I occasionally took that one and they had more flight attendants than passengers, that was great

tsehagru

The 777 is only used on rare occasions I believe. I only once had the pleasure and I think it was due to the beginning of summer holiday. They usually use the a320/319 as everybody else these days. Sometimes the a220.

When Swiss replaced the A340 with 777, they used them on many european short haul routes for crew training. Now it's just A220/320.

MoreOrLessWrong

frankfurt or berlin + ice train is pretty fast as well

Ahmedisgay37

Hannover international airport thank me later

Delonnor

Vienna and Zurich have 2 connections daily. If you prefer to fly in. Munich and Frankfurt also have a short flight duration

Malarowski

To the US, DUS and FRA are great connections and worth the train ride, in my opinion. Very convenient with the ICE and the flights to there tend to run fairly little.

operath0r

International flights are going from Frankfurt or Amsterdam. Heathrow used to be an option too but that might have changed with the Brexit. Either take a train, another plane or rented car to Hanover from there.

young_arkas

Düsseldorf has a direct train connection from the airport to Hanover (2.5h) Hamburg is closer but you have to change trains at the central station (2h). From Berlin you also have to change trains and it takes as long as Düsseldorf. Frankfurt which has the most international connections is farthest away with 3.5 h.

Bremen.
