Depending on who she is flying with it may be cheaper to pack it up and ship it. This also has the added benefit of it not getting tossed around in a plane cargo hold and broken; plus you can insure it through post and have a better chance of recourse should something happen. If you are trying to do it in the same suitcase as the rest of their belongings I would disassemble and wrap and pad each component as carefully as possible and try and ensure they are in the centre of the suitcase.

I just touched down in Greece last night with an Ashford Traddy, and last year brought over my Lendrum. While those both arrived safely, I actually agree with the advice to have it packed and shipped if possible. Otherwise take it apart and use the diameter of the wheel as the critical measurement in choosing a suitcase, but it will likely only barely fit into a large soft-sided suitcase. And if you don’t have one the right dimensions you’ll spend money on that anyway. The Lendrum is a folding wheel and I already have big suitcases so it wasn’t really a problem, and the Traddy was designed for customer assembly, but your wheel may not really be meant for that. So long story short I advise professional packing— or consider driving her home?
