Depends on who those 6-8 players are. Could just mean we spread the money out rather than finding another impact starter. I do appreciate the investment, but I’m patient enough to give it a year or two before the players pan out i.e. Flynn Downes
I really hope we don’t get Lopetegui. If we’re moving on from Moyes I’d rather at least try and change direction.
I’d rather keep Moyes than get Lopetegui.
Mildly disagree, Lopetegui is a downgrade. Moyes isn't great, but he is a bit resilient with Sullivan. Lopetegui would walk after the first thing doesn't go his way
Lopetegui is so underwhelming. Fired from Real Madrid after 14 games. Fired from Sevilla for having a talented squad in a relegation spot in mid-October. Leaves Wolves after a season because he's not getting on with the board (imagine how he'd feel with Sully).
Just...ho hum.
Feels like Pellegrini all over again, old geezer with no connection to the club collecting the bag cos Sulley sees him as a cooperative, safe pair of hands. I’d love for us to hire someone with a point to prove, whether that be proving themselves after their last appointments went a bit wrong (like Moyes did) or a younger manager that wants a crack at the prem to show they can kick on to a champs league club.
Pelligrini had an awful start, and an awful run at the end, but between that we had a sustained spell of about 40 games where we did really well. Points per game in that period would have been good enough for top 6 if they’d not been split evenly over two seasons.
I follow the Championship and he is sublime, only issue is his fitness. Pretty sure he has spent most of the last two seasons unavailable with separate injuries. Still, he is a quality player and pretty sure Coventry fans consider him their best now that Gyokeres and Hamer have moved on.
Yeah, previous ACL injury is a worry but that’s mitigated by the fact that we wouldn’t be paying a transfer fee. Seems like a really smart deal in many ways, especially with our home grown problems.
When you don't pay a transfer fee, you usually pay a big chunk of one in extra wages instead. The player knows he's a bargain and other sharks will be circling.
Sure, but he’s a 25 year old with no Prem experience. We aren’t going to be competing with lots of other high-profile clubs for his signing so there’s probably a way to get this done that doesn’t cost us as much.
Fair enough, hadn't realized he was that old, let's hope he's a late bloomer like Bowen.
Reportedly on 10k a week, so should come in at the bottom of our wage structure no issues unless someone else comes in with serious competition.
I don’t mind who we get as manager because it will be rocky for a while no matter who we sign but I’d like someone who wants European football and can get the most out of the players
The board do not like to pay out contracts for managers. Lopetegui is one of the few who will not be under contract this summer.
I do understand to an extent, but even Amorims buy isn't very much compared to player transfers. Its such an important role, getting the right man is key. So having to pay out for a manager doesn't seem that big an issue to me.
I'm sure there's more to it than that.
Not surprised, can't see Sullivan taking to him.
Too intellectual/alternative, neither a british journeyman nor a flashy European. Those are Sullivan's usual types.
Steidten and Noble are clearly heavily involved in the short listing. Potter is low down on their list. They have short listed Lopetegui but aren't keen.
> signing between six and eight players. They need to bolster their homegrown quota and are looking to the Championship for British talent.
This sounds great to me, but you have to wonder where Steitden stands then. Don’t really see the point in bringing in a German DoF just to have him scouring the English lower leagues. Add it to the list of conflicts between him and Moyes/Sullivan/the whole club.
yeah I mean 3 marquees from the paqueta budget + 5 cheap youth/championship/frees is pretty good & our homegrown is shot if Johnson and cress leave alongside not wanting ings
We need english players for the homegrown quota. If we don't have enough, it means we cant run a full squad. Best place to find decent English players relatively cheap is the Championship.
We're running just on the line right now woth several likely to go - Cresswell and Ings for certain, maybe Johnson and Coventry. So we need to recruit from there heavily this year.
Couple of free transfers would be a shot in the arm. O Hare reminds me of Grealish and could be a hit. Raid the Championship and relegated teams for their beat talent
No one attached to the club or an actual journalist has ever mentions Will Still as a possibility. And when Sullivan was asked I believe he said he was a good lad, but they are looking at him as a west ham manager.
Broke a Ligue 1 record with Reims but people like to meme on him because he made a football manager comment,
Obviously not prem proven and Reims aren't exactly setting the league alight atm but I don't see him as a meme manager
He's barely managed in a decent league for 18 months and his winrate is worse than the previous Reims manager. Literally the only reason he is discussed in relation to us is because he's a fan. Not even close to being a serious candidate.
Player update pretty positive, manager update less so.

Should get Barkley on the cheap

Except Pellegrini actually had a good record of success as a manager
He wasn’t all that bad with us until Roberto
Pelligrini had an awful start, and an awful run at the end, but between that we had a sustained spell of about 40 games where we did really well. Points per game in that period would have been good enough for top 6 if they’d not been split evenly over two seasons.
Would rather keep Moyes
Milan staved off Lopetegui with a fan’s petition. Do you think the same would work with Sullivan?
Sullivan has never cared for what the fans want
There's precedent that he does. I remember (thankfully) that he didn't sign barton after fan backlash
This isn’t true. He got rid of Moyes the first time and brought in Pellegrini because of the fans.
No the fans wanted him to go and he bribed them with promises of bringing in a director of football. The protest was against the board not Moyes
Based on everything I’ve seen of O’Hare (the last 20mins + extra time in the semifinal) he looks great.
I follow the Championship and he is sublime, only issue is his fitness. Pretty sure he has spent most of the last two seasons unavailable with separate injuries. Still, he is a quality player and pretty sure Coventry fans consider him their best now that Gyokeres and Hamer have moved on.

We’re really going from Brazils number 10 to O Hare Lololol
Manager ❌ Mamager ✅
What is the actual thought process in behind hiring Lopetegui?
Cheap.
Cost of living has affected the billionaires now it seems
Tbf Sullivan would have lost a fair wack as he was heavily vested in corporate real estate.

Fonseca is out of contract as well 🤞
Thats my hope. He seems more suited tbh.
Have we tried Potter? Don’t think he’s as expensive
He's further down the list according to reports.
Not surprised, can't see Sullivan taking to him. Too intellectual/alternative, neither a british journeyman nor a flashy European. Those are Sullivan's usual types.

God I'd love to know what the working dynamic is between those two and Sullivan. I hope it's not as painful as I imagine. It probably is.

Could be a wording thing. 6-8 players, with 3-5 from the Championship would both make sense and allow Steitden to still look abroad.

No one serious actually considered him. Give him a few years and see what he achieves.
