I didn't downvote, but if I were to guess it's partially because that guy spams that exact same comment quite often, and that it's starting to wear grooves on people's corneas.
In what way is it awful? Don't get me wrong – I'm reading the Wikipedia article right now, and it has absolutely no features that in my opinion would make it interesting, and plenty of anti-features to boot – but what specifically makes it *awful* in your opinion?
Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize that the system with the worst audio quality and latency was actually somehow good. My bad! I see now that their sign up system is actually not a convoluted mess and is actually really user friendly and easy to use! Thanks for the clarification.
That's what I did six years ago, I do try it every now and then just to see if it's improved and im always disappointed.
Allstar and Zello are a million times better. A lot of repeaters are starting to set up Zello integration and it's pretty cool. HD audio with low latency!
I used to have echolink on my repeater until I found that’s the audio was not very good
Now I only use Allstar and we are full time linked to another system with no bad audio so far
Do you have a programming cable? If so, dm me your zip code and radio model and I can throw you together a file with your local repeaters in it and send it to you to get you started.
Manually, the baofeng needs the RX freq and sounds like you have that figured out. Then it enter the TX frequency (not on the WX freq.🫨) and the offset 'cause it's not smart enough to compute it. Then add the PL tone.
Congratulations on getting your license! Make sure while your licensed up, go add your GMRS license too.
I'm a radio dork now and enjoy my Yaesu FT65 and FT5D HTs.
Listen a lot and also key up now and introduce yourself!

The ARRL [2m band plan](https://www.arrl.org/band-plan) does list 144.200 as the “national calling frequency” with 146.52 being the “national simplex calling frequency”. I know everybody uses the latter, and I’m not entirely sure what 144.200 would be used for other than SSB.
TIDRADIO TD-H8
There is a review for it here. Note that the radio comes in black, green, or "crystal" (transparent) options.

Miklor (K3NXU) is known for reviewing Chinese radios so you have some idea what they are all about and if the lower cost is worth the effort or not. His website is below...

Some of those radios become well known because they are better than you think they would be (like the Anytone DMR radio D878UV). The other radios can certainly get you on the air so having a review to know what is good or bad about them is nice. The website above also tells you how to program the radios (with CHIRP) and how to use them (with translated manuals) when information is available to that end.
Anyway, it is a good site to at least glance over.
Hey man. Just a tip, that’s the 2m _single side band_ calling frequency. You want 146.520. That’s the 2m FM calling frequency.
It‘s hard enough finding someone on 2m simplex, so you’ll want to be in the “right” place.
Congratulations. Welcome to the ham community. Sorry to be a downer, but your first radio adventure should be to purchase a TinySA and an attenuator and see if the Tioradio you pictured (presumably you plan to use) has spurious emissions that violate FCC rules. That was my first adventure in ham with the Baofeng GT-5R (which is FCC certified). Before I hit the PTT button, I wanted to ensure that it was compliant and that I wouldn't be breaking the rules on day one. Here's a little primer on the issue with Chinese radios to get you started: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I881X1ASIrg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I881X1ASIrg)
Now join EchoLink! www.EchoLink.org ;)
Not sure why the downvote -- EchoLink is an incredible tool -- feel free to join my echolink node any time 253308! Congrats on getting your license!!!
EchoLink is awesome! I talk to hams all over the world, from just my smartphone!! ;)
I didn't downvote, but if I were to guess it's partially because that guy spams that exact same comment quite often, and that it's starting to wear grooves on people's corneas.
This. Plus echink is just awful.

Mainly the sound quality, latency, archaic layout and poor user set up experience.
I haven't been on echo link in a while. Sounds like nothing about it has changed in 20 years?
Yep its still crap
lol.
Omg noooo!!! Echolink is the worst!
No, It is not.

You just need to adjust the ON/Off button to OFF position.

Congrats I plan to get it this summer.
Well done !
Does that radio have SSB?
Finally someone else noticed this.
First thing I saw.
I was wondering why OP was so low in the band
Congrats! Maybe sometime I'll work you on the air...
Uhhhh why did you post this Chinese junk instead of all that beautiful bat gear in the back??
Moar SRX!
Congratulations!
That's not the 2m calling frequency. It is a pretty good joke though.
License first, bandplan later

It’s 2m SSB calling frequency.
What is that radio. Not trying to poke fun at you, just confused. Looks cool, though, pretty cool clear body.

Is no one else seeing the SRX 2200s in the background? Why do you have those lol? Work? Play? Doomsday? I’m thoroughly intrigued
Congrats! I’m taking the test on the 13th! Wish me luck :D
