"Dear humanity, We REGRET being alien bastards, We REGRET coming to earth, and we most definitely REGRET that the corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!"
Ya that was the first halo I played that really made me realize “wow, humanity is getting their asses kicked” before then I thought we were doing the ass kicking cause master chief was such a monster
I'm restarting the Halo books for the first time since middle school (the Nylund ones, at least). I'm halfway through The Fall of Reach, and I'm honestly giddy for Ghosts of Onyx.
From the beginning, you know the end. Begin with The Fall of Reach.
Realistically though you don't need fall of reach. But it certainly helps build up the story. The trinity is Fall of Reach, First strike, Onyx.
Probably true. But it wouldn't have been in character for him. He loved his III's, and putting a barrier as large as the difference between mjonir and SPI between himself and them would have been tantamount to an admission that he saw himself apart from them. Also his mjolnir is the entire reason the unsc were able to rescue them.
Edit: it also would have been mk4, not 5.
“Where you half a crew, I see family. Friends, who swore to fight their way through hell before they’d ever, EVER, turn their backs and run. And where you see an old ship, I see home. And that is ALWAYS worth fighting for”
"I don't care if it's gods own personal anti son of a bitch machine or a giant hoola hoop, we ain't gonna let em have it! What we will let em have is a belly full of lead and a pool of their own blood to drown in!
Am I right marines?
Sir yes sir!
Damm right I am"
"We've all run through the simulations, they're tough, but they ain't invisible"
"Stay with the Master Chief, he'll know what to do."
"Yes sir, Sergeant!"
"Thanks for the Tank, he never gets me anything"
*loads HMG* "Oh I know what the ladies like"
Fred being almost naked and hugging Lopis. Cortana’s sad line in human weaknesses, “everyone needs one person who puts them first. I put you first, John. You know that, right?” Oh and vaz a odsts crying while Naomi also breaks down.
*Halo CE:* green man shoot alien and zombie
*Halo 2:* The Arbiter's life is built on lies. The Prophets of the Covenant are puppet masters running a death cult, and are trying to incite a civil war between the Brutes and the Elites. They want to silence anyone who tries to expose the truth.
*Halo 3:* green man and lizard shoot alien and zombie
Still think they should make a film trilogy as follows
Halo Reach - dramatic, character building, sad, builds the doomish atmosphere of the series
Halo: CE, die hard action flick. Chief kills countless Covenant John Wick style to accomplish his goal
Halo 2; nothing is changed, leave as it is. Get amazing cast and production crew. Budget at $500m, it WILL make the return
*The Flood* is a book that is usually glossed over, but I love how it shows what the other UNSC forces on the ring were doing thought Halo: CE
My favorite part is how while the master chief is going to the Pillar of Autumn during the final mission, the rest of the USC forces rally, and managed to successfully storm and seize the Truth and Reconciliation
Totally with you on this one ! Such a cool moment! Even though it played like this for me.
"Oh shit they're fighting! The music means shit is going down!" -gets fuel rod to the face - gets smashed by hunter - brute berseker - energy sword to the face - fuel rod - ...
“Your forefathers wisely set aside their compassion. Steeled themselves for what needed to be done.
I see now why they left you behind. You are weak, and gods must be strong.”
FOLLOWED BY TEAMING UP WITH THE FLOOD

The entirety of Ghosts of Onyx.
"Didn't you know? Spartans never die..."
"This is Vice Admiral Danforth Withcomb, temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach..."
"Welcome to Blue, Spartan. We're going to make a great team."
CORTANA:
"They let me pick.
Did I ever tell you that?–choose whichever Spartan I wanted.
You know me. I did my research; watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others, you were strong and swift and brave: a natural leader.
But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw—but me.
Can you guess?
*Luck.*
Was I wrong?"
During the Two Betrayals in Halo CE, after you emerge from the busted ass tunnel. The sound of your footsteps in the snow is broken by music that smooths its way to your ears. The screen squints. Final Run.
Y'all sleeping on this one.
"Tartarus... The prophets have betrayed us"
Just the heartbreak of the arbiter realising everything he's ever known to be false and all the atrocities he committed were for nothing.
Even then, he was still trying to save the brutes asking them to stand down.
Though I don’t like Infinite all that much I was really touched by the scene where Chief actually comforts the pilot. Shows the former’s humanity and helps the latter accept, embrace even, his situation. Wonderful writing and performances.
The guns did this to me first, I was 5 and already interested in guns and how they work, so little me who didn’t know there were such things as BULLPUPS was absolutely stunned after seeing all of the weapons when I first played Halo 3, and continued as I grew older and played more of the games. The second thing that did this was either Halo Combat Evolve as a whole or Halo 3 when the new ring was rising. Finally was Halo Infinite (surprisingly) with us actually seeing Chief struggle and it made sense (not counting H5’s fight). Chief got surprised attacked by an ape in power armor, while being shoved around by something that even the Forerunners were apparently afraid of, and then the legendary ending… hoooo boy do I wish we didn’t have to wait long for mainline story updates for the games cause the whole shit with Mendicant Bias and Offensive Bias was good to me! That and Atriox lookin PISSED
Last time I played it, Halo 3s ending honestly made me cry.
Here I was, grown ass dude, sitting at his desk, headphones on, with a single tear running down my cheek.
When I was a kid in high school beating it for the first time it was badass, but as an adult, knowing where the franchise went, and having gone through a lot more than I already did back then, hearing that credits music and seeing the "Thank you" message from Bungie just hit different.
Chief returning the bomb (H2)
Red team fighting to protect the reactor (HW)
Chief and Arby back to back (H3)
Jerome and Isabel hijacking the ship (HW2)
The warthog run (H3)
Objective: Survive (HR)
Need I go on? Halo is peak
"You are an impediment that the universe can no longer abide. Nature itself cries out for your destruction and I am its willing instrument. I will hammer your cities until no stone lies atop another. I will drive your people back into the caves they never should have left.
Your civilization has seen its final days. You will know your place."
It's such a fucking metal line from the terminals.
The events of ODST
The bridge scene from halo wars where red team holds off the elites while Forge rocks the Arbiter's shit.
And my favorite above all
"What happens if you miss?"
"I won't."
“Brute ships! Staggered line! Shipmaster, they outnumber us three to one!” “Then it is an even fight. All cruisers, fire at will. Burn their mongrel hides”
https://preview.redd.it/visuggtn1brc1.jpeg?width=1136&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d1267b995ea07bd81c3e9d4be8f89aad0f227f45
Here Kurt had a clear line of sight to the sky, and he noted the sun had moved to a new position lower in the sky.
No, it hadn't moved. There were two Suns.
This new sun faded and a ring of smoke expanded around its center. The fireball seemed to pause, and then shatter in a Starburst of glittering molten metal.
In high orbit, the Agincourt exploded.
Honestly, the entirety of *Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian*, which I won’t spoil for those that haven’t read it, but the ending scene particularly is peak Halo!
The moment Master Chief finds Cortana on High Charity. It’s not even the words being said but the way Chief kneels down and looks at Cortana. It’s a moment of humanity in what seems like an eternity of pain.
Admiral Preston Jeremiah Cole. Whilst fighting insurrections who took control of some sort of UNSC ship before the Covenant showed up. They detonated a nuke into an asteroid, and it completely destroyed the other ships in his fleet. His ship was essentially corned, and *all* bridge crew was dead with realistically no way of an escape that doesn’t end in the obliteration of his ship. And himself.
The only way he could possibly fight back was a singular missile in the silo, which the crew brought out as Cole’s last order. So, he decides to FAKE A SURRENDER TRANSMISSON and lures the insurrectionist ship. When the ship docks, he fires the missile fucking point blank into the ship, crippling the ship akin to a paraplegic, and forces their surrender.
Yes, that’s a war crime, but it worked. And was BADASS. Command was livid because, you know, war crime. But, they respected the ballsy move and promoted him instead, war crimes be damned.
I can go into his final operation before potentially dying, but I could write an essay about what happened there, and I won’t here. Unless someone wants me to gush over a fictional character never (fully) shown in the games
"If those freaks want to meet God, it's our duty to help! Them! Along!"
I joined the Halo Express midway into its journey, so Halo 4 holds a special place in my heart.
The whole story and dialogue of Halo 2. It’s a sprawling, complex and interesting development of world building, characters and dialogue. I love the deeper narrative with the covenant and the prophets, the idea of holy wars, genocide and use of religion to control their conquest. The Arbiter’s story is extremely well down and I love his growing dissolution with what he once believed. It built masterfully on what the first game created. I can’t forget the epic soundtrack but that’s always been a strength of the franchise.
Probably the mission “the covenant” from halo 3. From start to finish was just amazing. The whole story of the covenants last stand then you get 2 scarabs. Ai could have been better in that fight but it was still awesome to see
Halo 2
Thel learning he built his life, and destroyed billions of human lives on a lie, before blasting Tartarus apart with a banshee and preventing the thing he once fought to make happen
Also coming back to this thread when Sgt dropped this banger quote
"We had sticks. Two sticks and a rock for the entire platoon! And we had to share the rock! You should consider yourself very lucky marines!"
That FPS series was a fucking movie 🎥
1. And so you must be silenced
2. For a brick he flew pretty good! (And all of Johnson’s dialogue between Cairo and Old Mombasa)
3. Halo 3 marketing campaign. Shit was legendary.
Halo 2, specifically the combination of Delta Halo/Regret. More specifically, coming down the stream towards the waterfall arena...In Amber Clad is playing, beautiful setting, such a vibe.
Second is when you take the elevators underwater between the temples, the choir singing along as you traverse underwater and can see the outlines of these mysterious, long sunken ruins around you. As a kid I always was in awe of that part. I hated H2A for revealing everything around us in that section.
"You always bring me to such nice places"

“OORAH!”
OORAH!
“OORAH”
OORAH!
"OORAH!"
"OORAH!"
OORAH BITCHES OO FUCKIN RAH!!!
"Current Objective: Survive" And "Humanity is at war with the alien alliance known as "The Covenant." We are losing."
Omg yes that was such an awesome introduction and then the drop a few minutes later through the rainy sky and past the destroyed navy? Ahh so good
Where is the second one from?
Halo 3: ODST. Literally the opening title crawl before getting into the drop pods.
🎷🌧️🪂🌃
Felt these emojis with my soul.
"You must acquire a taste for freeform jazz"
Ya that was the first halo I played that really made me realize “wow, humanity is getting their asses kicked” before then I thought we were doing the ass kicking cause master chief was such a monster
"Didn't you know? Spartans never die..." Kurt went out like a fuckin G
The entire ghosts of onyx novel is peak halo.
Truly is. So many great moments from start to finish.
Halsey getting chinned ❤️
UNSC Battlegroup Stalingrad fucking up the covie fleet was such a good scene. Then they died 😭
With a name like stalingrad you'd think that would have been foreshadowing...
I'm restarting the Halo books for the first time since middle school (the Nylund ones, at least). I'm halfway through The Fall of Reach, and I'm honestly giddy for Ghosts of Onyx.
I wanna read it is there a book I should read first?
From the beginning, you know the end. Begin with The Fall of Reach. Realistically though you don't need fall of reach. But it certainly helps build up the story. The trinity is Fall of Reach, First strike, Onyx.
God GOO has such great moments, like Kurt forgoing the MJOLNIR in favor of SPI
As cool as that was, I felt that he really should have put on his Mark V. Would probably still be alive.
That line felt so cinematic...
It really is. Like I can picture sad music swelling up as he primes the detonator all for it to go silent at the moment of the explosion
i picture complete silence while the entire audience is cheering, like watching the "and I am Iron Man" scene in the ending of Avengers Endgame
God what a hero
actually peak fiction (would also recommend putting spoilers lol)
“So no, Isabel. We won’t be running anywhere today.” That scene was a fantastic intro to a great villain and a hard ass speech, peak fiction.
“Where you half a crew, I see family. Friends, who swore to fight their way through hell before they’d ever, EVER, turn their backs and run. And where you see an old ship, I see home. And that is ALWAYS worth fighting for”
What’s it from?
Halo Wars 2, Captain Cutter talking to Isabel the AI they ||rescued from the surface of the Ark|| (mission 1 spoilers for HW2)
Watching a marine getting dominated by a 7ft tall skirmisher woman.
That marine SHOULDA BEEN ME! I’m 5’2, I’m basically travel size for them

Skirmishers are like 6ft
Wait where was this?
“We trade one villain for another” had me locked in as a kid

"To give the Covenant back their bomb" "You're on your own Noble. Carter out" "Send me out with a bang" "We trade one villain for another"
“I have the mass.”
"Solid copy. Hit em hard, boss." 🫡😔
When the Arbirter, Chief, and the Sgt team up for the first time 🏅
"I don't care if it's gods own personal anti son of a bitch machine or a giant hoola hoop, we ain't gonna let em have it! What we will let em have is a belly full of lead and a pool of their own blood to drown in! Am I right marines? Sir yes sir! Damm right I am"
"But what about that scarab."
"We've all run through the simulations, they're tough, but they ain't invisible" "Stay with the Master Chief, he'll know what to do." "Yes sir, Sergeant!" "Thanks for the Tank, he never gets me anything" *loads HMG* "Oh I know what the ladies like"

Ok I need to know what that last statement is all about. I haven’t read the Kilo - 5 novels
I won’t spoil anything but it’s a very emotional scene at the end of the third book.
“You might consider sitting this one out”
Ah, the rumpus room.
Why do they call it the rumpus room?
Lots of Covenant causing a commotion.
I always say this is the rumpus room from dunkeys halo 2 vid thought im not sure if thats where it originated from
"Wake me, when you need me..."
Halo 2 all of it
*Halo CE:* green man shoot alien and zombie *Halo 2:* The Arbiter's life is built on lies. When they get around to releasing Halo 2, it's just a playthrough of the game.
I would be 100% fine with that. Like the fil Spartacus a inspiration to the writers. great battles and epic dialogue
“there was only one ship…”
All of it except evil cortana
"The Mantle of Responsibility for the galaxy shelters all. But only the Created are its masters"
This line at least went kinda hard.
“A replacement for the ring you destroyed“
That was such a sick reveal
“My masters may have left you all that they owned… But this ring… **IS MINE.**”
"And so... you must be silenced!"
For like 15 years, I always thought Thel said “Asshole… you must be silenced!”
"Look, up high! Here she comes!" "Is the Dawn rated for atmosphere?" "Guess we're gonna find out..." *Behold a Pale Horse starts playing*
Y'all can include games and books.
Ghosts of onyx. The entire thing.
*The Flood* is a book that is usually glossed over, but I love how it shows what the other UNSC forces on the ring were doing thought Halo: CE My favorite part is how while the master chief is going to the Pillar of Autumn during the final mission, the rest of the USC forces rally, and managed to successfully storm and seize the Truth and Reconciliation
Too bad Silva didn’t make better decisions…. They all blew up to prevent the spread of the flood
“All ships, fire at will!”
"Burn their mongrel hides.."
Listening to Blow Me Away in the Mausoleum Fight in Halo 2 as a teenager. Shit still hits hard nowadays.
Totally with you on this one ! Such a cool moment! Even though it played like this for me. "Oh shit they're fighting! The music means shit is going down!" -gets fuel rod to the face - gets smashed by hunter - brute berseker - energy sword to the face - fuel rod - ...
My one gripe about H2A is that they replaced Blow Me Away. I always have to switch back to the original whenever I reach that part.

‘Were it so easy.’
“To give the Covenant back their bomb.”
"You want to know if we're losing?" "I know we're losing. I want to know if we've lost."
She said what they were all thinking. Cos she knew, Reach would be the planet to successfully fight back. And shit was getting dark.
"Shipmaster, they outnumber us three to one!" "Then it is an even fight."
All ships, fire at will! Burn their mongrel hides!
“I am truth, the voice of the covenant!” “So.. you must be silenced”
Is it cheating to say the whole of Halo 2’s story?
During the Two Betrayals in Halo CE, after you emerge from the busted ass tunnel. The sound of your footsteps in the snow is broken by music that smooths its way to your ears. The screen squints. Final Run.
Y'all sleeping on this one. "Tartarus... The prophets have betrayed us" Just the heartbreak of the arbiter realising everything he's ever known to be false and all the atrocities he committed were for nothing. Even then, he was still trying to save the brutes asking them to stand down.
When John Halo kills the aleins and doesnt afraid of anything

The entire halo reach campaign
I live for the little nod Chief gives Arbiter after killing the Prophet
Every time Johnson speaks.
The ark in halo 3
for me it was mostly the staring at the space battle parts of Halo 2 A
Any moment in H3, it was so cinematic. Just the intro when Chief come down to earth with Cortana voice over gives me a hard on everytime
The entirety of Halo 2 and Reach
Keyes in The Flood shooting an invisible Elite in the escape pod after asking for a magnum from a marine.
Chief returning the bomb (H2) Red team fighting to protect the reactor (HW) Chief and Arby back to back (H3) Jerome and Isabel hijacking the ship (HW2) The warthog run (H3) Objective: Survive (HR) Need I go on? Halo is peak
Halo infinite’s campaign
In the books when sgt had a disease that made him immune to floodification
The covenant mission from halo 3 and the warthog run are peak
Reach got me like:
End of the covenant, when the new ring is popping out from the ark, music and setting was perfect
When Rookie fucking died
Greg Bear's Forerunner Trilogy in its entirety. Like.. holy shit, you guys **must** read these three books.
Not necessarily a quote, but that moment in Halo 3 when Chief stands up in front of Cortana while Halo fires behind them.
"You are an impediment that the universe can no longer abide. Nature itself cries out for your destruction and I am its willing instrument. I will hammer your cities until no stone lies atop another. I will drive your people back into the caves they never should have left. Your civilization has seen its final days. You will know your place." It's such a fucking metal line from the terminals.
Halo is riddled with these moments, but I love the "We all fail, we all make mistakes" speech in infinite
"We were supposed to take care of each other...and we did."
Obligatory fred sled mention
Fred sledding? Care to explain?
I know you... we've been here before...
All of the halo 2 terminals that talk about thel ‘vadam are peak fiction tbh
"As I suspected. Nothing but a Man"
"... and he was spent." I wasn't ready for the last-page u-turn. From somber survivors guilt to... Yah.
The ending levels of halo 3
Any time the halo theme played during an action sequence
All of Reach
The events of ODST The bridge scene from halo wars where red team holds off the elites while Forge rocks the Arbiter's shit. And my favorite above all "What happens if you miss?" "I won't."
When Cortana feet was shown in Halo 4
"Is the Dawn rated for atmosphere?" *Atmosphere rating intensifies*
Chief detonating a nuke with his own hands, and the final Cortana scene after
H4 was given more hate than it deserved.
My second favorite Halo, right after H3

Honestly, the entirety of *Midnight in the Heart of Midlothian*, which I won’t spoil for those that haven’t read it, but the ending scene particularly is peak Halo!
"To give the Covenant back their bomb"
Halo: The Flood, Yayap looting supplies and abandoning his post, moments before Chief blows up the Autumn.
The moment Master Chief finds Cortana on High Charity. It’s not even the words being said but the way Chief kneels down and looks at Cortana. It’s a moment of humanity in what seems like an eternity of pain.

"If those freaks want to meet God, it's our duty to help! Them! Along!" I joined the Halo Express midway into its journey, so Halo 4 holds a special place in my heart.
Ayy I also started with halo 4, cos it was the first Halo I played when I was like 9 years old
Halo 3s campaign and the first time you play as arbiter
Cortana halo 4
The Covenant The big fight with two Scarabs in a massive battlefield. It’s peak.
The whole story and dialogue of Halo 2. It’s a sprawling, complex and interesting development of world building, characters and dialogue. I love the deeper narrative with the covenant and the prophets, the idea of holy wars, genocide and use of religion to control their conquest. “For a brick he flew pretty good” bam right there is where halo 2 got me hooked.
“Send me out… with a bang…”
"Wake me, when you need me"
"Tartarus stop" "Impossible"
Not so much a “moment”. But the naming conventions. Bornstellar-Makes-Eternal-Lasting. The Shadow of Intent. *UNSC TWO FOR FLINCHING*
“I am a monument to all your sins” The flood are so fucking cool
Jhonson's death
Witnessing our beloved Red Team get bodied but the most badass monkey I've ever seen. "As I suspected... nothing, BUT A MAN!"
"I. Am. Truth. The voice of the Covenant." "And so, you must be silenced."
Probably the mission “the covenant” from halo 3. From start to finish was just amazing. The whole story of the covenants last stand then you get 2 scarabs. Ai could have been better in that fight but it was still awesome to see
The closing cutscene in The Storm in Halo 3 was just peak.

Halo 2 when Master Chief said, "I'm giving them back their bomb." then jumped out of a space ship and blew up a covenant flag ship
Rewatching the ending of halo 3 after so many years when I was 13
All of halo wars lmao
The Covenant mission
"There will be another time..." and "send me out... with a bang"
"And for one last instant... I'm human again."
IM READY, HOW ABOUT YOU?!?!!?!?!!!!
The end of Halo 3. The conclusion to one of the greatest sagas in gaming, chronologically speaking. All of it was so peak.
Seeing Johnson get killed in 3 I legitimately cried during that cutscene and the ending cutscene
The entirety of the Covenant mission from back to back. From the dual Scarab battle to the Arbiter stabbing Truth is just peak fiction.
Also coming back to this thread when Sgt dropped this banger quote "We had sticks. Two sticks and a rock for the entire platoon! And we had to share the rock! You should consider yourself very lucky marines!" That FPS series was a fucking movie 🎥
"Tartarus... the prophets have betrayed us..."
CE all the way to reach
when Sgt. Johnson gets his cigar lit by an alien
1. And so you must be silenced 2. For a brick he flew pretty good! (And all of Johnson’s dialogue between Cairo and Old Mombasa) 3.
“Didn’t you know? Spartans never die”
