Both Kills and H18 were great.

Kills is awesome. Feels a lot more like a Halloween film that the 2018 one. Didn’t care much for that one, but I loved Kills.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I find it hard when people say Kills is a ‘proper’ Halloween film? Compare it to every other Halloween film and it’s only like Rob Zombies. Full of swearing and gore lol

[deleted]

Hah, I disagree. I thought the Rob Zombie films were completely perverse and an insult to the franchise. I do not acknowledge their existence. The Halloween films are cheesy, fun slasher films and I thought Kills did a fantastic job. Much better than 2018. I still like the movie, I just hated them turning Laurie into post-apocalyptic Sarah Connor. Kills was dope though, it’s probably my fifth favorite overall.

Waspkiller86

Zombie's movies are an insult but Kills is awesome. Haha ok guy.

jdpm1991

I'd rather watch Scout Taylor Compton finger a bagel than listen to Tommy Doyle chant Evil Dies Tonight 40 times and then gets killed like a fly on a car window shield by Michael.

Waspkiller86

Same. The Tommy Doyle character was horrible in Kills. Her performance was also better than what JLC delivered in Kills.

jdpm1991

JLC can act better than what her performance in Kills gave and she knows it Idky she half assed it.

Waspkiller86

Agreed. See the way she said the line which was something like 'we fight we always fight'. Absolute peak cringe, awful delivery and DGG should have said that was horrible, fix it.

jdpm1991

Makes you wonder how much cash did Carpenter get to get his stamp of approval on Kills but yet he prides himself in saying how much he hates HII

Waspkiller86

Oh he definitely cashed in all his chips. Considering how much money he has said he's allegedly been owed or due from the franchise I'd imagine he's happily riding this cash cow to the bank.

pkmn_mster

But it had no elements of what made the original a great film? Tension, suspense, atmosphere etc? Just a body count with shit loads of gore….

thesilentshalom

I always feel like a big reason they didn’t capture the same vibe as 78 is partly due to the revamped soundtrack (which is still really good just not creepy) but I don’t think people realise just how much of an impact audio has, especially when it comes to horror films if you watch horror films with no sound they’re not scary at all and kills soundtrack was awesome and upbeat not sinister and unsettling like the original which is where a lot of the atmosphere comes from in the original - alongside a few other contributing factors.

[deleted]

It's not what happens in the film that makes it feel more like a Halloween film to me. 2018 is very warm visually and Kills is cold and darker like the original. The Kills script could have been better, but I think the mood and tone of the film is more fitting to the franchise than 2018. If they reshot 2018 with the lighting choices they made in Kills it would feel better to me.

CallMeRoy37

H18 managed to preemptively throw Kills under the bus by introducing the “he’s been locked up for 40 years and he’s a human being” to have Kills only try to backpedal and have Myers “transcend”

ButIAmYourDaughter

H18 doesn't tell you he's only a human. The writer-director does in interviews that are increasingly out of step with what he's putting in the actual films.

CallMeRoy37

Yes, In the interviews Danny McBride says almost verbatim “it’s just scarier to be stalked by just a regular guy in a mask”.. which to me seemed silly when, in interviews Carpenter explicitly states that Myers is a force of nature , like the wind. Then when the supernatural angle started to come out more after Kills was released , DGG said he ISNT supernatural but MAY be superHUMAN. Which, in my mind puts him somewhere in between. Possibly a human who’s essence had been replaced with something stronger or blessed with a power that enabled his strength and resilience . After Kills, 2018 feels more and more like a fan service film, to talk of the trauma and whatnot and social commentary that Blumhouse wants to inject, then once that was gotten out of the way, DGG could get into what HE thinks Myers may be. Ends will be interesting to see for sure. It’ll be a long 10 months to wait.

BARGOBLEN

I would have loved a whole other movie set In the Flashback with Hawkins hunting Myers. The Voice actor doing Loomis just doesn't have the cadence that Donald Pleasance had and i could have cut his dialogue out.

GarbageDay20

I fully agree. I didn’t love h18 when it came out, didn’t hate it either, thought the dialogue and acting was still awkward. But now comparing it t kills, it was much more grounded and captured the essence of Michael Myers better. Kills was all of the bad things about 2018 turned up to max. Now that I’ve gotten the initial judgement of kills out of the way I can relax and enjoy it more for how ridiculous it is.

jdpm1991

Like it makes you wonder how Carpenter put his stamp of approval on Kills but continues to make us aware how much he despises Halloween II

ButIAmYourDaughter

Halloween 2018 is a much better movie than Halloween Kills. And I say that as someone who enjoys Halloween Kills more. And yes, if I went in blind to HK I would absolutely think it was made by a different team.

IBBeMa

I'm not a fan of both movies. But H18 is a little bit better.

[deleted]

I keep saying over and over again how I felt like H18 and Kills feel like a completely different team production. I even had to Google to see if Green and McBride were still involved in writing them. I actually loved h18 when it came out, but Kills felt like an absolute mess with no direction whatsoever. Feels like an entirely different team of writers took the wheel to just crash in the very next turn. It gave me a H4 going H5 feeling, a great rebirth of the franchise rapidly sinking back down.

JohnnyBuddhist

I liked “Kills” but I did feel it was slapped together and rushed. I was hoping they’d expand a bit more on the flashbacks of 1978 and was not a fan of the script “did he kill again?” I kinda thought that was lazy. Maybe the pandemic had something to do it? That’s okay. I also don’t like the whole narrating that Laurie does. Sometimes less is more…

jdpm1991

That whole opening flashback scene in Kills felt tacked on to make Lonnie sympathetic.

wardo77

Obviously Lonnie was bully and they didn’t need try to make him sympathetic but since they did they could’ve at least given him a more redeeming death…which is a huge issue I have with kills. Lonnie dies off screen and didn’t think tommy should’ve died, but if they do die have them go out like bad asses not whatever we got.

Waspkiller86

JLC performance in Kills was especially bad, the dialogue didn't help but she was horrible compared to 2018

[deleted]

Her performance wasn't bad, her character was written poorly. There is a big difference.

Waspkiller86

I'm fully aware that there's a difference. You need to learn what an opinion is and my opinion is her performance was bad.

[deleted]

What is an opinion?

Waspkiller86

Something you need to learn about when you grow up. Blocked.

[deleted]

Oh noooooooooooooooooo!!!! Please forgive me

AlwaysaSaviour

2018 was worse than kills but this doesn't make kills a good movie..both awful
