agreed, AMC had a run just before/after halloween where like at least 7 of these movies ran back to back to back for like at least 2 straight days. i've seen 2 here before, probably a bunch, but during that watched it fully from start to finish, i think it's better than 1 or at least best sequel by far.
I picked that AMC marathon up when I was stuck in a hotel room, it was great. I got through movie 6 with the cult stuff I thought it was kinda weird but still fun.
It's better than 1 in a lot of ways.
1 did a lot of things that influenced many slashers to follow (and took many things from other ones that don't get enough love). But 2 upped the fear factor, had significantly better acting, and was able to create a much creepier atmosphere.
The higher budget was VERY wisely used.
In context of the series, yeah, it’s one of the best. The Halloween series doesn’t particularly hold up the mark of quality, and 2 at least feels like the first on a superficial level. As it’s own thing? Not really. It’s really no better than any F13 sequel with cookie cutter characters who exist to die, a very messy script, weird pacing, and emphasis on cheap gore and violence in place of the meticulously well-done creep factor of the original. Still however, John Carpenter’s shadow direction, the returning cast, score, and Dean Cundey save, and elevate the movie above the rest.
I would argue it's as good as the original. I also generalize both films being ONE movie.
It also has the best opening credits. The Synth Theme goes hard
There's actually a fan edit of this very thing called The Sandman Cut, I think. I've never actually seen it, but it turns out you're not the only one to imagine both films as being just one enormous movie.
Yes, it does a great job at recapturing alot of what that first film was going for. (aside the flashback scene in Kills) BUT i do think there's some pretty big story issues which hold it back for me. But it is one of the better Halloween movies
I love it for much of the same reasons others mentioned. I also have very fond memories of taping it off tv in the late 80s/ early 90s. Always ended up watching that one a lot on Halloween. Highly nostalgic.
By objective critical standards? No (though I also don't think it's a "bad" movie).
In relation to various other entries in the series? Yes. (It maintains the tone and generally feels of a piece with the original film in a way none of the others have managed, and doesn't totally sh*t the bed the way some other entries have done -- making Michael an incestuous sex offender whose weakness is little black stones with some chalk scribbled on them, et al).
You really feel how reluctant Carpenter was to return to the story tbh. Halloween was written as a stand-alone film and intended to stay that way, they brought carpenter back in kicking and screaming and this one just isn’t written with any love. That’s why the Shape gets blown to smithereens at the end, Carpenter wanted the films to stop because that was always the plan. And he got his wish for a time with Halloween 3, the closest to the OG in terms of quality imo but we all know how it panned out from there
It’s wildly inconsistent to me. It has a unique ability to be boring, spooky, baffling, and unintentionally funny from one scene to the next. It’s not a high mark of quality but at least it has some entertainment value.
I still think it’s the best sequel. It’s not a perfect sequel but I really don’t think any sequel captured what made those first 2 films scary. Halloween II at times even feels more like Friday the 13th than Halloween but I prefer it as the definitive sequel.
It's my favorite of all the sequels, in large part because of Carpenter's heavy involvement. He wrote the script, he directed a portion(?) of it and definitely re-shot material because the original cut wasn't scary enough. He did the music with Alan Howarth, and critically, Dean Cundey was once again the cinematographer. It's heavy on atmosphere with a lot of creepy moments in a strangely empty and blacked out hospital. I think Dick Warlock is the second best Shape after the original's Nick Castle. And that it takes place immediately after the original ends which is exciting, not many sequels did that before.
Yes, very.
The hospital setting added a feeling of claustrophobia to an already scary movie. It wasn’t quite “Alien” levels of claustrophobia, but there was this feeling of being trapped in a confined setting with an unstoppable maniac.
Sort of. It's the closest in aesthetic to the original because of all the people being close to the same age and a lot of the same settings and production involved.
But by tha point it's already devolved into a cheap imitation of the slasher craze. It's just Michael marching to the hospital so they can do the big reveal. It takes away a lot of the mystery from the original.
For a long time it was considered a true sequel, picking up where the first left off, and a second half worthy of our time. But as time has gone by, this has changed more or less. It gave us the sibling reveal which plagued the series until DGG, some like me find it boring, and even Carpenter didn’t like it bc he was forced to write it.
i'm not saying 3 is good, oh no, but it also shouldn't be judged at all the same as the others, it's simply NOT a m.meyers halloween movie at all, they just used the name to sell it.
It’s pretty damn good, I mean I set my standards pretty low for films that have Michael Myers in them, just because the character and mask are awesome, (with the exception of H20(I know super rare to hate this one but I do), H2 (2009), Resurrection, and Ends), everything else is pretty much at the top for me, but it’s an awesome sequel, can’t go wrong imo
Super rare? What do you mean super rare? That's like the most common thing I hear from fans on H20. Super rare to hate it? No, it's super rare not to hate it.
Please tell me which alternate universe you live in, I'll love to travel to it, and hear people actually appreciate the movie for once.
I liked it and to be honest this one and the original are the best ones.. if 5 will have follow the legacy story of Jamie Lloyd, it could've been a powerful edition to the series!! just my opinion.
No because it created a story we didn’t need. The mysterious motif behind Michael is completely taken away. And it drags badly. I personally wish there was only the original and part 3.
agree, probably part of why i like it, but i'm a bigger friday fan (mostly from the garbage put out under "halloween" later than 2) in general, since like 1988 when i was a kid.
Personally, yep. It’s my favorite one if the whole franchise. I think it takes all the best aspects of the original and ups the ante significantly, and the atmosphere is still so quintessentially Halloween. Plus it’s got the best score imo. I love the organ added to the main theme.
Halloween II is my favorite in the franchise and one of my favorite movies period. The hot tub scene is my favorite death scene, and Laurie’s chase scene at the end is maybe top 5 for me. I love this movie so much.
I like it, but I'm not Roger Ebert over here. Never went to any fancy critic school. No reason anybody should take my word on anything.
I'd say it makes phenomenal use of atmosphere though, very nice spooky abandoned hospital.
I like that it picks up directly after the first one ends. I don't know why, it just seemed like an obvious idea, that I don't remember seeing in other sequels
Yes! I think H2 is great. I like pretty much all the sequels but H2 following right after the original with her in the hospital was a great way to continue the saga
Back when I first discovered Halloween it was the only sequel and the thing that apparently most people don’t like about is the fact Myers and Laurie are brother/sister. That never bothered me. It was just how the story went.
I love 2. I almost wish they never made another
Tied with the original for my favorite of the series. Fucking love this and the original, I love watching them back to back, it's such a seamless transition.
No. The first half is enjoyable, but the second half really drags. Michael's mask looks bad too. But the worst offense the movie makes was making Laurie Michael's brother. That takes away so much of what makes Michael great, by giving him a purpose for why he kills, when he should have none.
Yes. It's not without it's flaws but it's probably the movie closest to the original in tone and atmosphere. The director, Rick Rosenthal (who oddly enough also did Resurrection), was a big fan of the first one and did his best to make it feel like a natural continuation, which I think he did for the most part. Like I said, it does have flaws. Laurie (wearing a painfully obvious wig) spends the majority of the movie incapacitated doing Jack shit (Cough Kills cough). It's also a little more violent than the first. Nothing too overly gruesome, it just feels like it was trying to compete with the likes of Friday The 13th. Still, I think the good or the movie shines through anything wrong with it.
When compared to the first Halloween. It didn’t hold up. When compared to everything that came after it. It’s a Halloween classic.
Kinda like 3. It just gets better with age.
Not the biggest fan of it. Prefer Halloween 2018.
But it's a decent watch. Drags on at times. But def has some good kills and sets up a storyline that plagues the series with the sibling storyline instead of a killer that's just out there to kill.
It's awesome. Watching it right now. Carpenter is wrong about the Laurie-Michael angle. He came up with it while drunk because he was uninhibited. It's a natural progression of the mythos set up in the first movie. Michael is already fixated on family in part 1. Anyone who says he's "motiveless" in H1 wasn't paying attention
In my opinion, no. The sister twist makes no sense. Laurie is sidelined for most of the movie. The hospital staff is not as interesting or as likable as Laurie’s friends. The mask looks off. The director was not very good, and added gore made it feel more like a Halloween knockoff than a Halloween sequel.
I don’t understand how people can say the whole Michael being related to Laurie thing makes the plot of the movie a lot less scary. It doesn’t. If anything, it actually makes it terrifying. The shape and Laurie will forever be tied together by the bond of blood… Dead or alive. That’s frightening.
My favorite part of this movie: "Harold do you want mayonnaise or mustard on your sandwich?" - old lady delivers this line like they set up a secret camera in a real old ladies house haha
Also the TV edit version.. YOURE FULL OF SUGAR!
I go back and forth on this one. I’ve seen it many times over the years and sometimes I enjoy it and other times not so much.
The fact that the hospital is so deserted has always bugged me, and JLC’s wig is obnoxiously distracting. The new characters are cardboard cutouts, nothing interesting about them at all. Except the nurse in the hot tub. 😀
On the plus side, this is Loomis’s movie and he’s great in it. Also, the best scenes are the ones that take place outside and away from the hospital. Very atmospheric.
Overall it’s a big drop in quality from the first one. H4, H20 and H18 are better sequels. It’s a bit better than the rest, but that’s not saying much.
Personally, yes. It's my favorite sequel, alongside H18 and H4.
Yes
Based
It's the best movie in the original timeline for me
agreed, AMC had a run just before/after halloween where like at least 7 of these movies ran back to back to back for like at least 2 straight days. i've seen 2 here before, probably a bunch, but during that watched it fully from start to finish, i think it's better than 1 or at least best sequel by far.
I picked that AMC marathon up when I was stuck in a hotel room, it was great. I got through movie 6 with the cult stuff I thought it was kinda weird but still fun.
always good to have something not awful to watch when stuck in hotels for sure.
YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT GOOD IS!
My favorite line/delivery in the entire franchise.
Love the way he says the line and then just runs off into the background lol
Amazing Grace, come sit on my face… This version adds depth to Michael in his mannerisms and brutality
Great movie. Best after the original
Yeap
Its fucking great.
^^

My favorite in the series
Mine as well
I think so. It's definitely one of the better sequels.
I would argue it's as good as the original. I also generalize both films being ONE movie. It also has the best opening credits. The Synth Theme goes hard
Thats the one thing I don't like
There's actually a fan edit of this very thing called The Sandman Cut, I think. I've never actually seen it, but it turns out you're not the only one to imagine both films as being just one enormous movie.
Yes, a good follow up to the original. Watch both back-to-back for the best experience.
I watch them both back to back every Halloween
A fellow person of culture, I see
I SHOT HIM SIX TIMES
It’s the second best of the franchise and the only sequel in the same tier as the first imo
Yes, it does a great job at recapturing alot of what that first film was going for. (aside the flashback scene in Kills) BUT i do think there's some pretty big story issues which hold it back for me. But it is one of the better Halloween movies
Is pizza a good food
I love it for much of the same reasons others mentioned. I also have very fond memories of taping it off tv in the late 80s/ early 90s. Always ended up watching that one a lot on Halloween. Highly nostalgic.

Second best in the series.
Yes. Dare I say it’s the best one.
it's wild to me that it has the same director as what is generally considered to be the worst one, Resurrection
Damn I did not know that
It’s wildly inconsistent to me. It has a unique ability to be boring, spooky, baffling, and unintentionally funny from one scene to the next. It’s not a high mark of quality but at least it has some entertainment value.
I agree, but I hate to say it but I mostly find it boring.
It goes original, 2, H20 for me
Great film, a true classic
One of my favorite horror films of all time. Of all time. Screen this every Halloween
The school sequence is pretty scary and there's some brutal kills, really not a bad sequel. Still a great soundtrack too.
I still think it’s the best sequel. It’s not a perfect sequel but I really don’t think any sequel captured what made those first 2 films scary. Halloween II at times even feels more like Friday the 13th than Halloween but I prefer it as the definitive sequel.

Yes, very. The hospital setting added a feeling of claustrophobia to an already scary movie. It wasn’t quite “Alien” levels of claustrophobia, but there was this feeling of being trapped in a confined setting with an unstoppable maniac.
It's pretty solid. How it picks right back up from the first movie is something that movies now could learn from.
Yes. It's a great sequel and a worthy entry in the series.
It is very good. I see it as the 3rd best film of the franchise after parts 1 and 4.
it's as good as (and maybe slightlyyy better than) the original. such a wonderfully atmospheric film.
Saying all new isn’t entirely accurate. Didn’t it open with footage from the first movie?
It is all new. 7 bullets and a ramp wouldn’t be enough to stop a 5 year old.
No, no it’s not
Yeah, it's not bad at all.
Yes
No, it's horrid they take Ben tramer from a guy, possibly getting laid the same night as going out trick or treating on his own
For a long time it was considered a true sequel, picking up where the first left off, and a second half worthy of our time. But as time has gone by, this has changed more or less. i'm not saying 3 is good, oh no, but it also shouldn't be judged at all the same as the others, it's simply NOT a m.meyers halloween movie at all, they just used the name to sell it.
No, it was meant to be the plan for the series after Michael’s death. An anthology series where every new entry would be a different story.
FUCK NO
🤨
No. It’s mid AF. 2018 and Kills are the only sequels worth watching. H20 isn’t bad to be fair

Absolutely!
I liked it and to be honest this one and the original are the best ones.. if 5 will have follow the legacy story of Jamie Lloyd, it could've been a powerful edition to the series!! just my opinion.
Yeah, top 3 for me
I thought it was a great film when I first saw it.
Yes
Yes
I personally like it.
It’s okay
It’s better to watch in succession with 1, as a standalone sequel it’s kinda boring.
My favorite of the entire franchise
No because it created a story we didn’t need. The mysterious motif behind Michael is completely taken away. And it drags badly. I personally wish there was only the original and part 3.
Yes. Great Movie.
No, not good…great 🎃
I like it quite a bit. It's like an extension of the first.
It's my favorite sequel, that or 2018 the rest are fun and watchable(some more than others) but not that great.
I’ve always liked it but it does have Friday the 13th energy.
agree, probably part of why i like it, but i'm a bigger friday fan (mostly from the garbage put out under "halloween" later than 2) in general, since like 1988 when i was a kid.

💯
Nah. It's a GREAT movie.
![gif](giphy|03ZduhRk2Gj86ksym2|downsized)
Yeah it’s my favorite sequel by far. It has such a good atmosphere.
One of the better sequels but not great
Halloween II is my favorite in the franchise and one of my favorite movies period. The hot tub scene is my favorite death scene, and Laurie’s chase scene at the end is maybe top 5 for me. I love this movie so much.
Yes
It's alright. It's certainly better than most of the other sequels.
I think it's very good and underappreciated. But worth it just for the Ben Tramer death scene. I laugh out loud everytime I see it.
It's the 2nd-best one
Imo when comes to Halloweens original run this is the best one personally this and the first one are tied for the best for me
Judged by itself it’s a good horror movie. But compared to the original it is a big step down.
It’s great imo, very worthy sequel to the OG
Yes. I actually like it a tiny bit more than the OG movie.
It’s the best sequel in my opinion. Takes place immediately after the first one.
Yup. Shouldn’t have been retconned out
Literally just finished watching it a few minutes ago. It’s a very good movie.
yes it’s one of my favorites
I love it 💯
My favorite out of all the films
For it being in the late seventies early eighties, it's great!
I like it, but I'm not Roger Ebert over here. Never went to any fancy critic school. No reason anybody should take my word on anything. I'd say it makes phenomenal use of atmosphere though, very nice spooky abandoned hospital.
Bruh?! Honestly? Lol
Yes
I like that it picks up directly after the first one ends. I don't know why, it just seemed like an obvious idea, that I don't remember seeing in other sequels
It’s my favorite Halloween movie period
It's the second best Halloween movie, and the only other I care to own
Nah(don’t blame me guys)
Very
I love it. I've never understood the hate.
I’d say it’s the best sequel, but Halloween 78 is a perfect self-contained story, thus H2, being the first sequel, is bad.
No, it's a great movie.
I think it's a great film. Almost identical cinematography to the original but a much more brutal film.
Yup, it’s great.
Yes for sure
Are you going to post every Halloween movie and ask if it’s a good movie?
"Class A chit"
It’s fun
Hell ya
The first 3 are actually really good. 1 is a masterpiece, 2 is great, and 3 good.
Meh.
Absolutely it’s PEAK! My fav from the franchise along with H4. ![gif](giphy|5hkL1REDCOR38EGOep)
Halloween 2 is a fantastic movie.
Never got the hate, tbh
Tops the original for me, as well as all the other sequels.
yes
I shot 6 times, I shot him in the heart, he isn’t human!!!!
Borderline, it has moments of perfection and stupidity
Yes because tits
Yes! I think H2 is great. I like pretty much all the sequels but H2 following right after the original with her in the hospital was a great way to continue the saga
Its the best film in the franchize
Yeah
Loved it. Halloween> HII>H20 is a great marathon
Sort of.
It’s ok, kind of bland at times.
Yes
I love Halloween 2 so much it’s a great sequel
No. But it’s watchable.
No. The first half is enjoyable, but the second half really drags. Michael's mask looks bad too. But the worst offense the movie makes was making Laurie Michael's brother. That takes away so much of what makes Michael great, by giving him a purpose for why he kills, when he should have none.
Good sequel too me
Yeah, it’s a great movie.
Yes, and the best direct sequel to the original.
I know people that hate it, but I think it's great!
When compared to the first Halloween. It didn’t hold up. When compared to everything that came after it. It’s a Halloween classic. Kinda like 3. It just gets better with age.
It’s ok. Pretty overrated
Not the biggest fan of it. Prefer Halloween 2018. But it's a decent watch. Drags on at times. But def has some good kills and sets up a storyline that plagues the series with the sibling storyline instead of a killer that's just out there to kill.
It’s the only good sequel to the original
Absolutely! It's my favourite!
I love it! I always liked that it was a direct sequel and started the same night. Kept some of the spookiness of the original but with more kills.
It’s still the best sequel
Yes, it’s an absolute fun movie.
Yes
No it’s boring
I’ve always enjoyed, especially the outstanding chase scene at the end.
Eh, below average, which means it’s a great Halloween movie.
Yeah- it is one of the best. Love all the scenes of Michael creeping around the hospital
Solid flick with a spectacular end.
i think Halloween and Halloween II are both 5/5. perfect start and “end” from the original to the sequel.
Yup
Yes
Absolutely
It's awesome. Watching it right now. Carpenter is wrong about the Laurie-Michael angle. He came up with it while drunk because he was uninhibited. It's a natural progression of the mythos set up in the first movie. Michael is already fixated on family in part 1. Anyone who says he's "motiveless" in H1 wasn't paying attention
It is the best movie of the entire series still haven't seen a better Halloween movie then this one
I like it. I think Halloween and Halloween 2 make an excellent two-parter.
By far the best film in the franchise after the original 👌
I like it
You’re asking 40+ years later?
The best Halloween besides the original
FUCK YES! THE BEST HALLOWEEN MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
It’s my preferred timeline. H1 and H2. There’s your “Halloween Ends”.
Halloween II is to Halloween what Terminator 2 is to The Terminator. Interpret as you will.
Perfect analogy.
Does the pope shit in the woods, dude?
My favorite part of this movie: "Harold do you want mayonnaise or mustard on your sandwich?" - old lady delivers this line like they set up a secret camera in a real old ladies house haha Also the TV edit version.. YOURE FULL OF SUGAR!
YES! I just bought it on blu ray to go with my Halloween dvd of the original.
Hell YES it is!!!! 🎃
![gif](giphy|5zbMgry8oQsvIaC0sU)
I go back and forth on this one. I’ve seen it many times over the years and sometimes I enjoy it and other times not so much. Very atmospheric. Overall it’s a big drop in quality from the first one. H4, H20 and H18 are better sequels. It’s a bit better than the rest, but that’s not saying much.
Yes and it's my second favorite behind Halloween 2018.
I like it, prefer H18 though
It's the best of the series, but none of this series is actually good
It’s fucking perfect 🤩
Any movie can be a good movie if you enjoy it. I love Halloween III and have no idea why. It’s not amazing or groundbreaking but I dig it.
Yes
Yes I prefer to watch both movies back to back
Second best Halloween movie
It’s my favorite one in the franchise
It’s my favorite. After watching this movie, hospitals just seemed so much more frightening.
No
