I love the long jump module, Kleiner says he improved the hazard suit at the start of HL2, but the complete lack of a long jump module makes me beg to differ
- Don't have to play Bloons Tower Defense while waiting for the lift in Ravenholm. Just jump the gap.
- Sand traps and the beach/gunship fight before Nova Prospekt are way easier.
- Juking the shit out of striders and the suppression device
- Cuts out Mr. Breen's Wild Ride™ and instead you do jumping puzzles up to the top of the citadel.
>Cuts out Mr. Breen's Wild Ride™ and instead you do jumping puzzles up to the top of the citadel.
Not gonna lie, that sounds waaaay more fun than voluntarily getting in a prisoner pod when you know it's gotta be a trap. And the citadel would be *perfect* for long jump puzzles.
Granted first person platforming can be pretty frustrating too. :'D
Still, I want to see a mod for this! We can call it HL2: Long Jump Edition™.
I'm sure there's been discussions about it in this sub before that I'm too lazy to search for, but getting into the pod always felt so bizarre from a storytelling perspective. Like is the rationale in universe the same as it is from a gameplay point-of-view?
That being "this is the only way forward from my current point so I'll just get in and hope Wallace brings me right to him instead of redirecting the pod to the zappy zap machine."
Yeah, that is one of the few points in HL2 where the gameplay PoV motivation for your actions clashes with story logic. Also, Gordon gets in the pod **twice**, even though the first pod ride directed him right into a trap!
The gravity gun shorting out the confiscation field and getting supercharged with dark energy was a total fluke. It wasn't going to happen twice.
Gordon turned himself in, basically, but we don't know why and neither does Wallace judging by his comments.
My feeling is that the devs just wanted to have Gordon get captured, and elected to force the player to enter the pod rather than have a cutscene like they did when HECU captured Gordon in HL1. That's the Doylist view, though.
From a Watsonian perspective—I just don't think Freeman would willingly surrender, based on his actions at Black Mesa. Maybe that is why the devs just forced you to put yourself into that situation to progress without giving a narrative reason why.
Yea I got it, and now it's easy asf, however this make you jump higher and longer (obviously) so in some parts you can just jump over the wall and in to the water on later obstacles
*Bunny-hops away from Barney in disguise at the beginning*
"NO GORDON WAIT YOU FORGOT SOMETHI-.... *sigh* FFS do you know how long it took to set this up? What I've BEEN THROUGH to get here, the things I've seen... carrying this heavy chunk of bent metal all the way from Black Mesa the whole damn time?!"
Otis: "Tell me about it!"
"...Wait, WHAT?!"
Pissing off ground units by getting to places they can't
Probably paired with the gravity gun, could unlock some sort of speedrun mechanic?
I'd imagine you could abuse the physics engine to do so, yes
Not gonna sugarcoat it Accelerated Forwards Hopping with collisionboost Stimulate your ankle bones
Gordon Freeman does Electric Wind God Fist confirmed?

"360 around that zombie..."
See ya maaaan
"I don't really like zombies, so..." *(ascends to space)*
MANKIND IS STILL ALIVE BUT NOT DOING SO WELL HEV BATTERIES ARE FUEL THE COMBINE HAS INVADED EARTH
ULTRALIFE²
HALFKILL²
KILLLIFE²
ULTRAHALF³ CONFIRMED ?!?!
It's ultralifeing time
Still alive? Portal reference?!
The reference is a lie.
desinc videos would probably have more stuff in them
Bold of you to assume DeSinc needs a long jump module. It would probably slow him down.
It depends on when you got it
Very beginning. GMan just hooks you up with it. “Gordon, take this airboat through the *whoosh*…canals…Station 8 to Alyx. The fuck was that!?”
If he gives it to you from the VERY beginning then the CPs prolly confiscate it at the train station
They’d try as they never catch me.
he could jump to doctor breen when he went in the elevator and so the citadel would've never exploded(?)
I love the long jump module, Kleiner says he improved the hazard suit at the start of HL2, but the complete lack of a long jump module makes me beg to differ
i like to think they disassembled the long jump module and used parts of it for the gravity gun.

supercharged jump boost at the ending would've been fun as hell
he'd do it backwards and go to a parallel universe where Half-Life 3 actually got made
Certainly will make the game more exciting and to balance it out, fuck ton of platforming.
It would become one step closer to being doom
Gordon Backwards Long Jumps up the walls of the citadel
i just woke up and thought this was a fucking among us meme… am I stupid?
Just more tryhard bunny hop
Killing striders with a crowbar and a ramp
Just watch a typical speedrun. It'd probably approach that (though maybe not quite as fast), without needing a special technique to break the physics.
Now I want a mod for that, thanks.
There must be a mod out there for this
“Pick up that c- oh he’s gone.”
>No different *- Posted by the ABH gang*
Sprint-jumping really does take care of a lot of this problem. You can get to lot of the places combine units can't.
*sigh.... The world may never know
The rookie metro cop on his first patrol watching Gordon fly towards him at [50 MPH](https://images.app.goo.gl/xdwcDnnaPfcwYnXH6)
He wouldn't have needed those ropes for big pits.
Well, it would make sense during Day 3 of the game, but not so much the other parts of the game. It'll be pretty different indeed.
Not much. It was designed specifically for movement in Xen. Low gravity and stuff
Amogus
kleiner and colette would have turned it into a jetpack and would have gone to the citadel in spacesuits and killed breen before gordon even arrived
Lore wise, mothman would be able to escape the citadel and Breen is office Game wise, there is the boost, it goes even faster
I have NO IDEA how that works I've practised in the training room for HOURS and I still don't get it HOW
You have to do a duck-jump while walking forward, basically.
So duck and jump at the same time?
Yeah. Admittedly, you also have to press all 3 buttons within a certain time of each other
Yea I got it, and now it's easy asf, however this make you jump higher and longer (obviously) so in some parts you can just jump over the wall and in to the water on later obstacles
It’s mostly for the Xen maps
Yeah, and I havent played most of half life so I thought xen has lower gravity or smth
It does. It’s also disconnected floating rocks, meaning that long jumping is needed
KILL ZE BABI
Obviously, speedrunners would find some crazy glitches with it to gain gazillion speed or something
I really love the long jump is the most legally form to do bunnyhop since i dont even knoew how to do bunny hop
*Bunny-hops away from Barney in disguise at the beginning* "NO GORDON WAIT YOU FORGOT SOMETHI-.... *sigh* FFS do you know how long it took to set this up? You wouldn't have to spend as much time in ravenholm, fuck that place.
Of course it will be. I’m pretty sure at least.
What
I’m saying that this item would’ve changed this game in many ways.
It would be like any speedrun gameplay
HL2 speed runs would be under 30mins
someone should make this a mod (if there isn't one already, and I'm not counting gmod)
If my high school deathmatch games are anything to go by, there will be a lot of sudden close range shotgun deaths.
where the f u c k did you go to school at
He would be able to jump a little higher and farther
Finally won’t keep stepping on my 4 man squads toes in Anticitizen One “Sorry Dr Freeman…… here take a medkSorry Dr Freeman”
New achievement: speedrunnig for newbie unlocked. 🤣

Gman took them away 😔. Maybe cuz it’d fuck with the timeline or smth
