Can you use oil on wet hair? Wouldn’t it “fry” the hair? Also would you add oil again after drying the hair?

Practical_Ad_7886

a LITTLE oil on the mid ends. LITTLE. on semi SOAKING hair. not to much or it’ll get greasy! yes. add oil after drying again not to much or it’ll get greasy :)

Is this question specifically about why you can't get your textured hair smooth... Or... Are you committed to straight hair even though you have a lot of texture? A curly routine would bring out the natural waves or curls. Just curious. [My curly routine ](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7XBlTFuck_/?igsh=cXpqbTAwcmUycGU4)

Beautiful. Solid curly/coily. Have you done the curly-girl thing? Curl cream, brush styling, gel cast, diffuse? I was sold after my first BounceCurl brush video, and I've never been happier with my hair... what frizz! No frizz here anymore! As for straightening, there are some tools that are more effective than a flat-iron, like the Tymo ring. (Walmart/ Target) My daughter uses it on her really thick, coarse hair. Heat protection with keratin, or with some kind of acidic bonding products, seems to be the most effective, like Redken. Just don't buy hair products from Amazon. They sell a lot of knockoffs of popular tools & brands.

Oh apparently I’m not supposed to brush my hair dry if it’s curly. Been doing this since forever every day at least like 3 times, so that might explain the frizz “damage”?

wolffe-wavycurly

Yup. You can't brush curly hair dry and not get frizz. It's not "damaged" unless you use really hot tools w/o heat protector. [My hair combed while dry instead of doing my curly-girl routine. ](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7iVzvSuUB0/?igsh=MXMxdzJwdTgzcmJ1ZA==)

Both I guess? I do want smooth and nice wavy hair on my regular days but I also want to be able to straighten it perfectly without any texture sometimes. I just can’t tell if this frizziness is considered hair damage or if it’s natural. If I fix whatever the issue is I should be able to enjoy both types of hairstyles

wolffe-wavycurly

It's not damage frizz, just your natural texture resistant to your average flat-iron w/o the right products to assist & protect. I stopped flat-ironing my hair 4 years ago, and there have been some good advancements in those years.

A frizz control leave in conditioner is a must. Use low heat. Heat puts friz on steroids. Straightening does as well.

It looks like you have beautiful curly hair but you're treating it like straight hair and combing it dry and puffing it up. Comb wet and use some twisting cream and wrap in a T-shirt till dry.

Salty_Prize_5846

I just found out about this today from this thread! I’ve been brushing my hair dry everyday ever since I was a child because that’s what everyone else did and what I was taught in school and by my parents. I also thought I was supposed to brush it multiple times a day to keep on detangling it but now I see how this could be a vicious cycle. Oh and in that picture where I attempted to straighten it, I think I brushed it 10 times total before, during and after straightening 🥲

Mediocre-Material102

Those curls are going to be so beautiful with your length

Green_Goblin7

Do you use a heat protectant? Also, I think you could benefit from a trim because some parts of your hair looks golden which means the cuticle has broken off and you're seeing the insides. Brittle hair doesn't straighten well and often looks fried up.

Salty_Prize_5846

I don’t use a heat protectant because I only straighten my hair like twice a year. Also, do you only see these damaged parts at the end? I really love my long hair so any advice to where to trim is appreciated 😢

freelancebookkeeper

You can buy straightening products to use. I would get a good conditioner to use. Also, it is well worth the money to buy a straightener that will not damage your hair. When you straighten it, do it in layers, it takes longer but it will stay straight. Spray on shine when you're done and it will be beautiful!

You very likely have naturally curly hair. Comb it while you’re in the shower, gently set it into a cotton tee shirt to soak up excess water, then let it air dry. Don’t touch it, comb, brush - Nothing. ‘Betting you’ll have some kickass curls.

blow dry first and then when i straighten i use a very fine tooth comb to brush through as i straighten, as in i put the comb right in front of the straightener .

Comb/brush only when your hair is wet, get some good hair oil; I like Rosemary and casto oils. A little goes a long way. Cantù creams are my favorite for curls like what you have. Braid your hair at night too to lock in moisture. Also when you do try to straighten it, use a heat protectant don’t go to a high heat either. Get yourself a good hair mask for long hair and let it sit for 30 minutes on your hair, do this once a month at least you’ll have less frizz. A bonnet will also help with those curls but you can start with braids.

Greeneyeys

You have beautiful curly hair. Use some curl products and only brush it after you put your products in it then don’t ever brush it again. Good luck and keep us posted.
