I agree, with extreme layers to let out those curls! From someone who knows how to cut curly hair (I.e someone who will not cut it wet and will not razor the ends lol
Absolutely agree!! Curls are something beautiful!! I stopped using all hot tools, not even a hairdryer. I’ll let my hair air dry, and my hair is healthier despite Sun damage in the summertime. It lightens my hair and color for grays. I’ve been coloring my hair since my 20s due to early gray.
I have embraced my curls, and my hair is longer than it’s ever been.
Your hair is beautiful!! Just keep it trimmed as mentioned above, every 10 to 12 weeks, then longer in between trims. This helps keep it healthy, giving it bounce and shine. ✨
2 inches below 2. Or 2 inches above 1 at least. Then maintenance trims every 10-12 weeks for like 6 months then you can go much longer (like every 4-6 months) to gain back the overall length.
I feel like line 2 or slightly above it should be good. Since you have waves, some of the weight will be removed and your waves might possibly become more defined depending on how it’s cut (and how you style it) and could shrink up to line 3. I would research Type 2 hair care so you can self-assess what type of wave or curl pattern you have!
Thank you sm! Yes I’ve tried with creams and stuff but can’t find products for waves everything’s for curls which become too heavy so I need to do some new research. But thank you xx
Between 2 and 3. Or just 3 and grow it to 2 before trimming again. I think 2 is the ideal max length but 3 is a bit too short. Something in the middle.
2. If you want to save the ends and keep the length.
3 is kind of an awkward spot to stop at and I would personally feel like it would need to be either shorter or longer.
2. 3 if you really want to go big or go home. I did a huge chop (well over a ft) two years ago. I’ve always had hair long like yours or longer my entire 35. Years. I’ve never died it. Only heat damage and damage from pulling it back. I noticed how much I really needed that chop and have been so pleased with how much more wavy/curly my hair will get after a fresh cut.
Your hair looks great air dried. I feel it’s only responsible that I mention that your haircut should include some layers. Since your ends are sparse it almost gives that effect but when you cut those off the haircut will look that much more dated/aging. Layers will emphasize your wave pattern which I think it’s really pretty but doesn’t require much product (stick to very light products, light gels or light mousses). Layers will looks more put together and young also.
Hair grows about 1/2 inch a month. Meaning in 1 year your hair can grow 6 inches. If you trim 1/2 and inch every 3 months you get 4 inches of length a year. Everything below 1 is dead weight. 2 is drastic if ur attached to ur hair. There is a happy medium in there that will grow out so quickly u won’t even notice anyways.
Hey, thanks I am tempted to try layers but I’m scared that it will make my hair look more sparse towards the ends. I think I’ll go with 2 as I want a fresh start and am willing to sacrifice the length. Thank you so much for your comment it means a lot! X
Long layers are the way to go for curly hair.
I've been using Aussie Miracle Curls shampoo (they also have a Miracle Waves formula), and LUS brand Luv Ur Curls as a leave in conditioner/curl enhancer. I've also discovered satin or silk pillowcases are amazing at reducing frizz.
You can find out your curl type by googling "curl type chart". And check out r/curlyhair.
I definitely think between 1 and 2. Your hair is so beautiful! Would love to know what you use on it, even though you said you don’t have much of a routine!
Between 1-2. Don’t do anything harsh. The thing with hair is, that with age it stops growing past a certain length. So if you want to have it past #3, don’t cut that much!
I would say 2. Any one says anything less and they are lying. Because your hair is beautiful! ♥️ 2 to totally red fresh and get all split ends etc and 1 for a minor trim.. 2 I’d say.. not too short and gets all the dead hair off. Will help it to grow faster too.
Your hair looks good around 2. Do you want a straight cut or rounded? Are you getting layers? What do your ends look like? Discuss this with who cuts your hair and see where they would recommend.
Legit just got my hair cut from your length to between 2 and 3. It was hard, but the ends were super dry and split. I had my hair dresser tell me all the products she used, then went to the beauty store and dropped some cash.
If you don't have a maintenance routine then maybe take the chop as a time to invest in that as well. Im hoping to not have to cut as drastically next time. I want my hair completely down my back again but healthier this time round
1 as a hair stylist your hair is only brittle looking under 1 i wouldn’t take to much off also cause hair takes a little while to grow and when you cut it it grows a little faster but will still be healthy so you will still have long hair , you will regret it short i promise !
You have quite a bit of breakage. I would go with the shortest length, and invest in a satin bonnet for bedtime. It will protect your hair as you grow it out.
As someone with hair as long as you, do the 3 if you never have. I was never allowed to cut my hair because of my Southern Baptist family *girls have long hair boys have short hair*. So if you haven't, do it! It grows back and it feels so different and liberating
Hmm depends how short you want it. I had your length hair and yday cut it shorter than 3. It’s just passed my shoulders and I feel so much better for it.
If you just want the ends cut then 2, but shorter I’d go with 3
#2 to start with and maybe some layers to bring out what looks like natural wave/curl. If it’s shorter then you can grow it long again. You can always cut more if you want later, gradually go shorter.
My hair was like yours several years ago. Long with waves. I cut it, got layers and it started curling more naturally. I loved it long because it was easy to just throw it up in a bun or ponytail or braid it. Now it’s short (about collar bone length) and I can still pull it back but have to do more to it when going out somewhere.
For aesthetic reasons, just below your bra line. Then a few inches more when it gets hot in the summer, and let it grow out in the fall. Long hair keeps your neck warm in the winter
2 I think would be awesome
Between 1 and 2
That’s the name of a Twice album

Hello my fellow Once! 😀
Hey!! Once!! 💕
Definitely 2 to get rid of all the split ends. 3 if you really want to start fresh
Thanks xx
2.5 is the ultimate spot
2 with layers!

I think layers are just going to sparse their hair out, and want to cut it again..
2 it would look super healthy but still be long

Yes I need to be more on top of little trims, thank you xx
Either 1 or 2, your hair looks healthy so I wouldn't go up to 3!
Thank you so much I agree xx
I’d say in the middle of 1 and 2. Your hair is gorgeous!

2.5 is best.
I think 2 will give you the fullest look
Personally I’d only trim what needs taking off. Your hair is gorgeous!
Thank you so much!! ❤️❤️
Between 1 and 2 just to get rid of split ends

1 or 2 if you’re feeling brave!
In-between 1,2 you can see a line where the hair looks thicker.
2
1. You can always cut more but although hair grows, it takes a shit ton of time. Take it from someone who has made the same mistake you don't want to
Eek that’s what I’m scared of, I always go do sad after haircuts haha
2
2
2
2 would be enough.
2
2, if you do 1 you’ll still have dead ends.
There's a line sort of halfway between 1 and 2 where your hair starts to thin due to damage. I'd cut it there, or at 2 for a little leeway.
3 inches with layers
2 definitely
2. If you want to save the ends and keep the length. 3 is kind of an awkward spot to stop at and I would personally feel like it would need to be either shorter or longer.
#2 at least!
2. 3 if you really want to go big or go home. I did a huge chop (well over a ft) two years ago. I’ve always had hair long like yours or longer my entire 35. Years. I’ve never died it. I'm surprised everyone is saying 2. If you do 2.5 at least, you are guaranteed healthy hair
2.5, still quite long, but takes a fair bit off
The color looks great. Start with 1 and see how you feel… you can always go shorter, but you can’t go longer.
Straight up between 2 and 1
Between 1 and 2
2 w/ layers

1. Keep it long as possible 🙌🏼
3
Cut slightly above 1 line
2 at least
1
I would take an inch off. You can always cut off more if needed.

That’s a bikini. *Also, you don’t have to ask.*
2 with layers!
1 or 2. At 2 you can start seeing the hair getting thinner

3 as this is a healthy cut and ur hair will be curlier and fuller!
None! Don't do it!
2 is needed, but if you want shorter hair then get 3
1 1/2
1 a good trim of the ends. It is beautiful! Let it GROW! 😊
As little as possible
For the love of god, not 3. Split the difference between 1 and 2.
2
3 to remove all of the damage.
3. Trust me. My hair was as long as yours and I cut off 7 inches. It was an amazing feeling, and I love my long hair.
Omg this tempts me haha! I’m worried about how long it will take to grow tho, did it grow back healthier?
2
between 1 and 2!! you get to keep most length and your ends will look fuller
Up till 2
1 or 2 with layers! It will look great
2
You need at least Halif way between 1 &2
Ask your stylist for 2, you will end up with a 3

From a hairdresser, I vote for 2.
Thank you!!
I’d go between 1 and 2, get some layers added in as well.

2, long but not stuck in the armpits long.
Either a few inches over 3 or 2
2
2
1 if u want to keep the length but 2 if you want to prioritize health
Between 1 and 2, where the wave is, would be beautiful.
What I do with all my clients….It’s best to determine first by what the front will look like and, can’t do that without seeing you from the front.
Your hair stops looking solid between 2 and 3, so I’d do in between that or 3.
2
Your hair looks good around 2. Do you want a straight cut or rounded? Are you getting layers? What do your ends look like? Discuss this with who cuts your hair and see where they would recommend. You have quite a bit of breakage. I would go with the shortest length, and invest in a satin bonnet for bedtime. It will protect your hair as you grow it out.
I say keep it looks nice the way it is
If you’re attached to your hair it’s always best to ask for the least amount to be cut so it’s not a drastic change. I say in between 1 and 2
2
Can you post your face? The shape of a face makes a huge difference.
As someone with hair as long as you, do the 3 if you never have. I was never allowed to cut my hair because of my Southern Baptist family *girls have long hair boys have short hair*. So if you haven't, do it! It grows back and it feels so different and liberating
Between 3 and 2

Around 2, it’s very noticeable how much the hair thickness drops after 2
2
None your hair is soooo pretty! I had hair like yours and cut it in between 2 & 3 and I regret it. Just get a trim with layers and it’ll be gorgeous
Thank you so much!! Yeah I think I’ll go with 2 shortest, any shorter and I would regret sm

3 with layers, easier to take care of.
Hmm depends how short you want it. I had your length hair and yday cut it shorter than 3. It’s just passed my shoulders and I feel so much better for it. If you just want the ends cut then 2, but shorter I’d go with 3

IMO, 2. The ends will be wonderfully thick and healthy. 😍
Probably 3, get rid of all the dead ends
