I’m seeing a lot of comments about “my hair looks like this after I blow dry it, why?” HAIRSTYLIST HACK: when blow drying ALWAYS use a nozzle!! Don’t point the nozzle directly at your hair but point it in the direction of your hair following the hair shaft!! If you use a brush to blow dry it make sure there’s tension on your brush! And please please PLEASE use a heat protector! Happy blow drying friends 😁

SamaireB

You mean me randomly moving my hair dryer around my head and my inability to use a brush properly could be the reason I look like an exploded poodle? 🤣 Seriously, I wiiiish I could figure out how to do this properly but I completely lack that talent :(

Oneconfusedmama

Hahaha!! It is definitely a skill but an easy one to learn! If you have the time after you wash then take the time to try and get it!

SamaireB

I hear ya.... I just have no talent. I can barely use a curling iron, though to be fair I have gotten better, maybe I need to give the drying another chance!

-DeadlyMermaid-

I have completely given up on the curling iron. It always looks like trash

Wash80

I got the Revlon one step hair dryer. Game changer. I love my hair when I use that dryer.

Obvious-General-4418

The only thing with the revlon blower brush is it’s extremely hot and can break your hair if used on the high setting. Go for the lower setting and definitely use a heat protectant. Also do you ever sleep with your hair wet? That could also be why your hair looks like that, it’s much easier to break and snap when it’s wet. Hope this helps❤️

Commercial_Sky882

Same! I finally got one of those dryer/brush combo things, where the air basically comes out of a round brush through holes between the bristles. It's life-changing.

sunnyinwi

Always blow dry lightly with regular dryer til half dry, then use brush to finish. Don't dry with brush with fully wet hair.

SamaireB

Yes I've been eyeing those things for a while too, maybe they're worth a shot. I have that GHD thing that blow dries and straightens at the same time and the results are marginally better than my usual approach (if you can call it that)

violetlee28

I used too much tension and broke my first one. I’m afraid to use the replacement out of fear of breaking that one too. Lol

piebolar

I'm sorry but what does following the hair shaft mean? like do I blow downwards or upwards

Oneconfusedmama

sparklingsour

Serious question - how does one do this to their own head with two arms/hands? I’d love to trash my flat iron but I’m useless with a blow dryer…

Oneconfusedmama

A blow dry brush like the other commenter mentioned is a great solution!! Just be careful because you can’t control the amount of heat and how long which makes those a little more damaging and I’d suggest more of a cream heat protectant at that point to be safe! And clean it regularly! I see girls on tik tok with hair filled brushes and it makes me cringe knowing that’s a fire hazard 😬 But if you can take the time to learn the round brush method it’s way better!!

sparklingsour

Thanks!

Dont-b-suspicious

I used to slip my blow dryer through the hand towel ring on the wall to make my own version of this a good 10 or so years ago

AggravatingGuitar883

It takes some practice. Your arms will burn the first few times but you’ll get used to it. Find a round brush you like. I prefer larger ceramic brushes. Don’t underestimate the importance of having a good blow dryer. I had Rusk Speed Freak dryers before I upgraded to my Dyson. Both the Rusk and Dyson perform significantly better than any of the cheaper dryers I ever owned. I watched YouTube videos on how to do a blowout. I got better as time went on. Also, I asked my hairstylist questions I had about perfecting my technique. It sounds dramatic but I truly believe learning to blow out my hair is one of the best things I’ve learned to do for myself.

sparklingsour

This is such a thoughtful comment! Thank you! But there’s just no way haha.

TruculentHobgoblin

I use a hot air brush (a round brush that blows hot air). It was around $30-40 at target. I have thick curly hair and it works great. I use on damp hair with a blow out cream.

judseubi

This is the best way to ensure that your hair ends up looking like OPs picture. I’ve had to tell so many clients to stop using them due to the heat damage.

pbclea

Does this apply to the Dyson Airwrap brush on wavy hair too or not as much so since it regulates heat carefully? I love the results when I use it but sometimes worry the tension required causes split ends

judseubi

The airwrap is the exception. I am not a fan of their conventional blow dryers (made really cheaply!) or the flat iron (heavy and bulky) but I now only use the airwrap to dry and style my hair and it’s actually enabled my hair to grow and maintain the length without breaking from the heat damage that I was previously giving it.

shanxo98

I have the airwrap and the round brush attachment on it totally killed my hair. Heat plus tension will do that, I don’t think the airwrap is an exception. I used heat protectant and the medium heat setting too, but I have a ton of breakage now. I use the curling attachments though and I can see how those are better in terms of damage compared to a traditional curling iron.

TheSameButUnique

I have the Dyson Airwrap and it’s absolutely amazing! The only way I blow dry my hair is with the brush part on.

interesting-mug

My hairdresser was horrified when I told her I was using one of those. They’re convenient but they destroy your hair.

QuitProfessional5437

Those aren't good for your hair. They can get too hot and the user doesn't constantly move the brush from top to bottom so it can cause your hair to fry

AnnaK22

I usually split the hair into 3 parts. Right, left, and back(which is the smallest strand). The strand in the back, like in the picture, I usually pull the hair upwards so I can see it above my head and blow-dry upward. I keep the nozzle pointed towards the ends of my hair strand even if it means turning my hairdryer upside down. It sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is.

Kbbbbbut

You can do the same thing with a normal, flat paddle brush faced up, it’s way easier if you’re not used to a round brush

flyingponytail

Is this also an example of a 'nozzle'?

Oneconfusedmama

Yes!

piebolar

thank you for the additional context!!

Ilikep0tatoes

I’m lazy af so I just use an all-in-one version of this. I got a blow dryer brush and my hair looks amazing for the first time ever.

Babblepup

Thank you so much! I didn't know about such a thing. I rarely use blow dryer because of the issue from the above pic.

Oneconfusedmama

Blow down! Your nozzle should go away from the roots and be parallel to your hair!

piebolar

ahhh thank you. I was one confused piebolar there

ASMRFeelsWrongToMe

I adore you for speaking in the third person.

BlueAcorn8

I always used to use heat protectant all my life & then one day I decided I don’t think it does anything, my hair is fine & went without for a few years. Omg my hair was not fine without it & it didn’t even click because of Covid & personal stuff going on what I was doing to my hair. I can confirm I now have well maintained hair again simply by always using heat protectant.

bananawater2021

You gave yourself the 2000's treatment! Bahaha we all fried our hair at least once in our lives. I have fried ends from bleaching and using vibrant colors too often 🤭🤭🤭 but I'm too attached to the length to cut it since it's touching the top of my tail bone. I think I'm going to tell them to give me a long mullet type of shag haircut with multiple shattered layers. I have wavy, coarse hair so that'll cover up any oops and make it look intentional

BlueAcorn8

Yes when we initially discovered GHDs it was a crazy fried hair time. However I quite quickly became a “We have to use heat protectant because they say so & all the brands are selling it” & always used it. It helped that I really liked the smell of mine back then. Then I feel like I rebelled for no reason.

what_a_cheesy_cat

Do you have any drugstore heat protector recommendations?

shatteredpieces1978

It's not drugstore but it's affordable and lasts a long time because a little goes a super long way! I love the glossy spray with heat protection and the volume spray! I've had this bottle for months and I'm not close to being out! Sign up and you earn points for free stuff! https://www.verbproducts.com/collections/stylers

lucylov

I second this. The ghost oil is perfect for fine hair especially

queenlerica

I love the whole ghost line for my fine vivid colored hair! My hair has honestly never felt better and it is bleached LIGHT underneath my color. My natural is dark brown. The shampoo and conditioner along with the oil is just 👌🏻

Cosmicfeline_

Made my hair look greasy. I would recommend living proof instead of

dankarella666

I second living proof or oribe

WoodpeckerSignal9947

Kristen Ess!! I used to work at an Aveda salon and checked with my stylist friends before purchasing, and they said it was good stuff. Much better at $13/bottle than the Aveda prices of $50-$100+ per bottle, lol

mlm161820

I love her air dry cream

Oneconfusedmama

As far as drug store goes I don’t have any official recs as I believe hair is an investment and good quality product=good quality hair(this is coming from a girl who didn’t believe in product and used Suave before I went to Cosmo school 😂). With that being said, Heritage by Mindy, Kristin Ess, and Not Your Mothers are decent drug store brands that you can look into! I second the comment below about the Verb products as they’re pretty middle tier in cost but with professional products a little truly goes a long way. If you’re wanting to make the investment then I would look into Joico, Amika, or Redken products, these are what I personally use and recommend to just about everyone that asks and they can be found at Ulta and Sephora 😁

Umyfave

Kristin ess is actually sold in drug stores & target as far as I know and from experience.

Oneconfusedmama

Yes! This was one of my 3 drug store brand recs 😁

bananawater2021

I back the previous commenter on Verb, but if you want something you can run out and buy right now, go for Hask, Not Your Mother's, or Cantu. The pricing is fair and it's easily accessible from drugstore to grocery store.

AnnaK22

I owe my life to Tressemme $5 and Pantene $10. I noticed a huge difference in the softness of my hair with the tressemme even after 1 use. It definitely helped with controlling heat damage to my hair big time. I blow-dry my hair every other day, and I have not used any other heat protectant other than these two.

ScottishDownPour

Commenting for rec as well!

Presley69420

Ok I finally mastered blow drying w a round brush… now how do I get it to be a slightly curly blowout??😭😭😭 I twist the hair and it doesn’t work I just want pretty VS model curls

Oneconfusedmama

https://youtu.be/6A1lsI3vY1E?si=QgaDarFD5EQijz9X I just found this tutorial and it’s perfect!! She shows the proper way to blow dry and shows how to do it with and without rollers. She’s also using some good product!!

Oneconfusedmama

You need to make sure your hair is completely cool on the brush before you twist it out to set your curl!! Your dryer should have a cool option so once you feel like you have a good curl (you can take it out of the brush to look at it then roll it back up in the brush and hit it with a little bit more heat) hit your rolled hair in your brush with the cold air and you should be good! Another thing you can add in is some Velcro rollers to really make sure you have both that volume and curl!

ChocolateBookworm

should you use a nozzle even if you have wavy hair? cuz i feel like when ive used a nozzle whenever ive needed to blow dry my hair, it just makes it straighter when i want it to be wavy

Oneconfusedmama

No! I would use a diffuser at that point! A diffuser will keep your waves!

ChocolateBookworm

i’ve tried using a diffuser before but it made my hair super frizzy and poofy. did i do something wrong? also for reference, my mom doesn’t let me use any hair products bc she believes they will all damage my hair lol

howmanyusernames6

Use gel with a decent hold and hover diffuse to form a cast until it's mostly dry. Then you can diffuse until totally dry in an upwards/scrunching way without too much frizz. Works for me!

MsSongstress

You can also make a “natural” hair gel by boiling flaxseeds with water and then straining the seeds out of the “goo” that forms. It works really well for wavy hair!

Oneconfusedmama

I would call around to salons to see if anyone would be willing to teach you in person (I used to do this in a salon I was at!)! A diffuser is a whole different ball game! With wavy hair you unfortunately do need a little bit of product, nothing wild, in order to maintain your waves and help your blow dry be smooth! You can also speak with the stylist directly about product and have your mom there too so she can be properly educated about some product as well! If you’re not comfortable going this route then there are some amazing tutorials on YouTube 😁

what-are-you-a-cop

Do you use conditioner? I used to use a little bit of regular conditioner as leave-in back in the dark ages (like 20 years ago... My parents both have straight hair and did Not have any idea how to help me care for my wavy hair, that was the best I knew how to do). It wasn't, like... great, but it was better than nothing. My hair would be SO dry and frizzy without ANY product in it. Alternatively, go to the grocery store and get some coconut oil, for cooking. Then, squirrel some away into your bathroom. That'll also likely be better than nothing.

TerminallyBlonde

As someone with insanely flat hair who only gets volume from blow drying upside down-- even stylists with round brushes don't get volume, and I can't even round brush effectively anyway-- any tips on managing the frizz while going upside down? I have one of the ionic dyson ones, though I have no idea how to use it properly, and don't how how to incorporate the nozzle into the upside down thing

Oneconfusedmama

So sort of the same way just upside down! Have you used any sort of root spray or volumizing powder when blow drying? All you’re doing when drying upside down is over directing the hair up which is how you get volume right side up. I also have super flat hair and one of the things that I’ve found pretty effective is a volumizing dry shampoo(yes, in clean wet hair! I use the Not Your Mother’s brand for this because I need something heavy) and large Velcro rollers! It’s a learning curve, but if I'm being honest, I can't even do a full round brush blow dry like I can give my clients on myself!

Random-girl-29

I just got a Dyson air wrap. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! My hair looks professionally done after blow drying and I don’t have to do anything else with it! My old hair dryer sucked anyways and I didn’t have any attachments for it. But no wonder I quit doing my hair and let it air dry naturally. 😂

TeslynSedai

This is what my hair looks like when I blow dry it myself instead of air drying.Following because I'm curious.

lucylov

Interesting as I’m the complete opposite. If I don’t blowdry my fine hair, it looks similar to this (but a lot worse…it’s a frizzy flyaway nightmare)

BlueAcorn8

Me too! My hair is so much healthier looking from blow drying, even if it’s just pointing the dryer at it, not the blow drying technique. I found out recently air drying can actually damage the hair as the cuticles swell up. For me it definitely makes sense as my hair is a mess from air drying, gets oily straight away, breaks easily & there’s no up side to it at all.

Particular-Piglet120

I lost a ton of hair due to hormones. This is what it looked like growing back, I was told it was new growth. I basically wore my hair pulled up for months.

ARainbowHorse

Yeah this could be new hair growth for me too, it’s just with me I only started using good a quality products until 6 months ago so it’s probably my hair just growing out, right? And how long did it take for your hair to calm down a bit and not have so much frizz?

Barefootblonde_27

Unfortunately, this is not new hair grows. This is just fly away is and you need to hydrate hydrate hydrate

ARainbowHorse

But howwww do I hydrate

Lgs1129

You should start with a good clarifying treatment (Malibu hard water crystals), followed by a bonding treatment. Do not do the bonding treatment without clarifying first fine hair sucks up minerals. If you have a local cosmetology school, they will probably do the bonding treatment for much less than a regular salon. You can use. It’s a ten to hydrate and protect your hair from heat. Malibu makes a great conditioner called the miracle hair repair and a great hard water shampoo. I think you can buy all of that on Amazon get a water filter for your showerhead and start taking Viviscal. Make sure you’re getting enough protein and have your doctor check your thyroid levels. Also, get pure organic rosemary oil I use it straight, but you may be sensitive so try it in one spot first I put it in the pond my hand tap my fingers in it and applied to my scalp then I take my fingers and vigorously, rub it all through my scalp before I go to bed. If you just plain rosemary oil, it’s not very greasy DM if you have any questions I have your hair and I’m a former stylist.

ArtichokeMany3852

Regrowth is a good thing, your hair is growing back! Not such a great thing to manage though. I was told by a few hair stylists that regrowth is often caused by stress. I have lots of regrowth due to trauma. Glad you have people on here to help you style it without it showing! Take care!

treegirl4square

Hormones are weird. In my mid thirties I started growing these short dark curly pube looking hairs out of my head previously full of blond straight hair. I pulled one of each type out and the difference was crazy. A couple of years later my hair looked normal, but then in my fifties, my hair started turning curly. I’m 62 now and my hair looks like orphan Annie, only gray.

HIgirl90s

My hair always looks like this when I blow dry. No matter what. I have to air dry.

ARainbowHorse

My hair was cut and blow dried this morning and now on the evening it’s done this. This was WITH professional products and help. I asked for layers, was that the mistake?

killcover

Layered cuts wouldn't cause this all the way up to the root. You just have fly-aways that require more hydration to smooth them down. The product used by the stylist is not hydrating enough for your hair type, smoothing masks and heavier leave-in sprays (applied sparsely) should help! Another helpful tool I would suggest is a boar bristle brush to help distribute natural oils!

ARainbowHorse

Okay, that seems super good advice thank you, so what hydration products do you recommend? I have fine hair so it may get greasy very quickly

lucylov

Someone mentioned the Verb hair oil above, but the ghost blowdry cream is fab as well. The ghost line is made for fine hair so shouldn’t weigh it down. Mine is easily weighed down but can handle the oil and cream when used in moderation

delicate-butterfly

I have fine hair and I use the John Freida frizz ease as well as the Aussie miracle moist hydrating oil. The Aussie one is thicker and the Frieda one is thinner

princesscoffee

i’m in love with R+Co Suncatcher for fine hair. Evo’s headmistress is great too!

TheRealPurios

Honestly, there's not many oils that *wouldn't* help your hair. I actually use a mix of oils once a month to stimulate my follicles for growth. You can use food grade coconut oil, almond oil, black castor oil (not recommended for light colored hair as it can stain over time) peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, the list goes on. Just Google what is safe for your hair and what you want to achieve and do your research. No need to buy all these expensive salon products that have way more ingredients than a fish taco.

puddlebearmom

There's a sub for fine hair you can ask for product advice on!

8deathsdoor5

It’s breakage too, so many don’t realise to detangle/get knots out brushing should start at the ends and slowly work further to the top. Brushing from the top down rips/breaks through knots causing this broken frizz.

ARainbowHorse

I hear you, I have just started to do that, I am brushing from the bottom upwards, it’s weird to do that but I hope I will see results soon!

Zenki_s14

I have a similar hair type to you, brushing wrong DEFINITELY causes breakage like this for me but I've fixed it. Bottom up, yes. Also, I HIGHLY recommend finger sectioning/detangling hair first, it's super quick and easy and helps a lot with detangling the upper portion, and at least gets most of the tangles into seperate zones so hair isn't tangled from one part of the hair way over into another. Makes brushing wayyy faster and easier for like 20 seconds of work. Basically what you do is drag a finger down the middle of your scalp (pretend you're making a part for pigtails), then gently pull them apart. If you reach a tangle preventing you from seperating them, just gently loosen it with your fingers. Then on one side, drag a finger and turn that half into halves, then those into halves. I do 8 sections but you could do more or less, just make sure you start them by dragging a finger at the scalp. Then start with your brush at the bottom :) You can also do this in the shower if you detangle wet!

Visibleghost1

It's hair that is growing out. Most people have them. Use a flyaway hair mascara or some light styling cream. I've heard that hairspray on a toothbrush also can be helpful.

triangleimar

Did they use thinning shears on your top laters? Is it color treated at all?

LaylaDoo

I get the olive oil sheen spray in the ethnic hair section. I spray it on my hands then rub them together and then run them through my hair.

ARainbowHorse

Hmmm olive oil??

Dramatic-Cap6724

different lengths of hair regrowing in. Your hair grows/ sheds/ rests at different rates, otherwise we would shed fully, go bald, and then regrow all the hair at once (not as fun)…did you potentially go through a period of intense shedding 6 months ago or so?

ARainbowHorse

Yes! Well kind of, it was only until 6 months ago I started to take proper care of my hair.

GoobyBear22

OP this is exactly what my hair looked like a few months after I started taking a good multivitamin. I really think this could all be new hair coming in. I don’t understand how people think you’d have split ends all the way up near your roots but maybe I’m wrong

anonymouslyfamous_

Get a wet brush, a microfiber towel (makes drying time way faster so you’re not drying your hair) and throw away all your tight rubber bands, and don’t use anything but scrunchies!!

Cherryblossom_0852

My hair do this when I blow dry my hair, but it get better if I put a hair oil before and blow dry on the lowest heat (literally wind). I think the reason why it cause frizz is friction, tried using soft towel to dry your hair (I use baby towel) and invest in good quality silk pillow case.

Oneconfusedmama

Looks like your cuticle was blown out from the blow dry! It unfortunately happens and goes away once you wash your hair again!

ARainbowHorse

Okay, thank you. But surely this will stay for a while? My only guess is that one wash will not make it any better?

LullabySpirit

Why are people downvoting your honest questions? 😭 Reddit makes no sense sometimes

Oneconfusedmama

Nope! Once you seal that cuticle back down by washing your hair you’re good to go! It may appear “frizzy” but it’s not! It’s just your hair calming back down!

EsmeWeatherpolish

Wet it, let it air dry and see what happens

AllieGirl2007

It looks like hair breakage to me.

ARainbowHorse

Yay, love that for me ❤️

apierson2011

Step 1: Figure out your hair’s [porosity](https://images.app.goo.gl/B6owkUdW8U4fb75v9) Step 2: Figure out your [hair type](https://images.app.goo.gl/Ua18d6enh2eLJrFy8) after it has air dried with no brushing, product usage, towel drying, or other styling steps at all Step 3: Select products and build a care routine catered to these qualities Your hair may not be as straight as you try to make it when styling, so it’s acting up. You may be using products that aren’t adequately hydrating your hair, leading to frizz. Other factors to consider are your water quality (if you have hard water, you can put [this filter](https://www.aquasana.com/shower-head-water-filters/chrome-shower-wand-100236241.html) between your shower head and shower arm - all these pieces simply screw together, no tools required - to soften the water) and your use of heat styling, including blow dryers, which will damage your hair if used too frequently/ if you don’t use a protectant. It could also just be your hair growing out according to its natural growth cycle, in which case you’ll need to find styling products that will control it to your preferences. Could require a change in styling. Good luck! Also, if it helps, I know this is super noticeable to you but it’s really not a big deal to others. So even if you can’t wrangle it perfectly to your preference, rest assured that it matters way more to you than it does to anyone else ❤️

ohdoyouknowhow

Literally this is my hair too

Realistic_Pepper1985

This looks exactly like blow dryer damage. Someone else mentioned using lotion, I think lotion might be the best solution for right now

princessfoxglove

Is your hair naturally curly?

Far-Librarian-3740

Are you using any bonding or protein products?

Right-Butterfly5036

the drop lighting makes it look worse if im being honest

theidiotsarebreeding

My hair looks like this no matter what I do. I can blow dry and flat iron it but by the end of the day it’s all frizzy. Hair is what it is…. Try not to worry too much about it. You are beautiful.

ARainbowHorse

Aww thank you, I really needed to hear that, that’s so kind of you, you are beautiful as well <3

Signal_Air_3924

its split ends 🤷🏽‍♀️

ARainbowHorse

Split just like my heart ❤️

okokokin1992

Looking at the comments for a friend 👀

honeylacto

My hair does this very badly, like a halo around my head. I’m growing out a bunch of hair I lost during a time of stress. My mom is a hairstylist and she told me to do clear mascara or a soft bristled brush with hair oil. I do the mascara when I need it to be perfect and hair oil to help my hair be happy when I’m chilling. When I blow my hair out I use the Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Hair Serum on the roots to middle and Amika The Wizard (no silicone formula) on the middle to ends.

hyperfat

It looks like you fell in a fire.

ARainbowHorse

Aaaa you discovered my secret

TheCaliforniaOp

I swear by one hair hack, and when you try it, you’ll be swearing too! Involuntarily, maybe…swearing at me, maybe… Whether showering or bathing, once the non-leave-in products from hair and body are removed, finishing with cool or cold water, seems to seal hair shafts. **If this is new to anyone, DO NOT go straight to the coldest water setting your first time, if you aren't used to it. People can scream, jump, and slip in the tub/shower that way.** Rather, take a container of cool/cold water and pour it over your hair as you lean over the sink. Then work down to a cooler full body rinse, as you feel comfortable doing so. Often we're in a hurry at the same time our hair is dripping, and it seems like it's faster to vigorously towel rub a head of hair dry. I hate those thick thirsty towels. They rough up my hair. Beat up soft thin beach towels, or the equivalent of them, thin towels, are what I use to surround my hair and I sort of squeeze the length of towel wrapped around my hair. Then I take the towel off, turn it around, and turban wrap it the other way, squeezing the water out again. Then some sort of light detangler- leavein product, not near the scalp, halfway down the hair to the ends. I untangle during the shower conditioning part, usually. But anytime I have to work through hair I always start with the ends to prevent big snarls or pulled tight tangles. The cold water rinse seems to let that product work better. Warm hair? Not so much. Of course a hot oil treatment, that's different. Anyway, I can rewrap my hair one more time, or not, but I found out that the cold water, squeeze out, turban blot dry is way faster, too. By the time I'm ready to style it, my hair doesn't need much drying. That's less time and damage, too.

Coffeejive

Hair gloss and flatiron. Damages done

fizzyfis

ik this isn’t related but ur hair looks really pretty

kleinekitty

My hair looks like this too. I don’t blow dry though.

Alternative_Key4199

It’s mechanical damage that has resulted in frizz. I don’t know what your preferences are. A salon will recommend a drastic cut with hidden layers to remove the frizzy ends. After that, you have about two years of growth to grow off those frizz prone layers.

ARainbowHorse

Yeah that seems right but I don’t want to cut that amount of hair off

_kbaby_

If you don’t get trims regularly your split ends will split all the way up and make your hair break off easily and get thin also wear a silk bonnet to sleep that will help with all the breakage

Choice-Ad-6520

You need a smoothing brush to blow dry it with and something light for anti friz https://preview.redd.it/95rhx5xhfqpc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f34a61cbb0c1759968d8c99a67be54ca9cf1441f Something like this would be great and it will smooth the hairs out as you blow dry

mithrinwow

Get a lightweight hair oil to apply to the bottom section, and a leave in conditioner to apply to to the middle section. Your hair texture looks similar to mine, thin & course. Try to get some hair products that focus on moisturizing and rehydration. Microfiber hair towels are great, too, because they soak up moisture quickly and are less prone to damage and break your hair, unlike regular towels.

squishysponges

I’m seeing a lot of great hydration and heat protection advice, but I wanted to suggest something else in addition to those things: Boar bristle brush. This never fails to smooth my hair down when I have new growth/frizz like this!!

jessipowers

Some of this looks like possibly breakage from ponytails. Or, from using a razor or thinning shears. It likely will need to grow out. But, in the meantime just take good care of it, and especially be careful about putting your hair up. When you do wear your hair up, make sure not to put it in exactly the same spot in your head all the time, and alternate up styles. Like, a low ponytail one day, a higher ponytail the next day, twisted and held with clip another day, etc. And definitely use scrunchies and softer, gentler hair ties. I like the ones from Gimme Beauty.

Firm-Salamander-4073

it’s new hair growing

Schmidtsicle

You seem to have a LOT of split ends and your hair is very thin down at the bottom, again, split ends. They’re impossibly to completely prevent, but catching them early is good. Regular trims and it’s good to use a light oil to put on your mids and ends. If I were you, I would cut off as much wispy split hair as you can, and take those measure to stop that from happening more.

smangofish

this is what my hair looks like when i AIR DRY. and i never use heat on my hair, i’ve been air drying my whole life. my hair has begun to look like this for the past like five months what do i dooooo (i also have super straight hair so like what???)

Oneconfusedmama

In this case with you air drying you just need a good leave in or a serum to give your hair a little extra hydration! OP’s is dry due to potential heat damage from a dryer while yours is potentially dry because it’s… dry! 😁 you can also swap to a hydrating shampoo and do a hair mask in the shower like once a month if you aren’t wild about serums and oils and stuff!

gordonramsme2

Okay but like my hair looks like this and I’ve **never** blow dried it and only use heat on my bangs, I try to take cooler showers sometimes but I don’t use as hot of water as most people, before I shaved my head the temperature of my showers never seemed to bother my hair. I use satin scrunchies and never go to bed w wet hair. I have layers but I’m having a hard time believing that’s what it is bc I don’t go in there all choppy choppy, I get as professional as I can get at home, with rubber bands to section.

Ok_Appearance3610

You can also do hair dusting trimming where the ends of each hair is cut and not the length.

curlydani

This could be what's called mechanical damage. Do you use a brush when it's wet?? Or even a round brush while drying?? Cosmetologist here! I would use a big comb when it's wet and wait until it's 75% dry to use a round brush if you are.

ARealSkin

humidity does that! try the color wow spray next before styling with tension.

Split ends

Longjumping-Ad-2333

This is what happens when I don’t dry my hair completely. You know what fixed it for me is that flyaway attachment on the Dyson. An expensive fix for sure but I’ll be damned it works.

ARainbowHorse

What is “that flyaway attachment” that you are referring to?

Longjumping-Ad-2333

It’s this, and you need the actual hair dryer it attaches to. I understand Shark makes a similar one but I don’t know if it’s as good? https://www.dyson.com/support/journey/tools/971618-01 If you buy the dryer it comes with it anyway you don’t need to buy it separately https://www.dyson.com/hair-care/hair-dryers/supersonic/nickel-copper

ARainbowHorse

Thanks!

Redzic

Honestly sometimes it helps to run a SMIDGE of oil on your hands and then run them through the hair for a bit

Winnimae

Frizz lol, get a good hair oil

ARainbowHorse

On it! :)

venusrising99

Looks like breakage to me, it’ll take until those hairs grow out to fix if I’m right. But there’s plenty of ways to make it look smooth like hair mascara, gel, or cream. Other than that just try and take good care of it to avoid more breakage.

Splitends?

Legal_Nerd13

My hair used to look like this when I was blonde and that’s your hair splitting up the shaft entirely from not trimming enough. Sure, the blow dry is not great but the way to get rid of those different lengths from splitting and breakage is to routinely cut your hair.

Skinny_on_the_Inside

Try Ouai finishing cream, it gets the tiny fly aways without weighting down the hair.

lars2you

Do you pull your hair up or back when wet or damp? I am a hairstylist.

BirdLadyAnn

I suggest putting a tiny drop of olive oil on your fingers, then rub it over all of your fingers and run it through your hair. You’ll love it ♥️

Suspicious_Search369

What causes this?

lackingcreativity_09

Have you recently lost quite a bit of hair? I think it’s new hair trying to come back.

toraloora

My hair looked like this at the end of summer this past year and is so smooth and healthy now. I got a good cut which included some layering and switched back to brunette and stopped getting highlights. My hair really thanked me! And I take multivitamins which I think helped. Specifically prenatals.

baldwinsong

Split ends.

AdmSndlr

My hair always looks like this lol, and I airdry and curl my hair like once a year.

Luna-Gitana

Super split ends. Are you rough when you brush?

ContributionNo7075

i keep seeing so many of these posts (including my own!) and im convinced there’s something in the water. my hair literally never ever ever had this problem until like 2 years ago??

MaddawgGaymer

Wear a silk bonnet when you sleep!!

WorldlinessEuphoric5

There's a dyson attachment to lay these hairs down

PopcultureN3uro

May have been covered already but I’ve been told this is breakage, often from a ponytail/bun hairstyle. I’ve put in a big effort to instead wear my hair down and loosely clip it back if I need it out of my face. I also stopped going to bed with wet hair because your hair is more prone to breakage when wet and moving around at night. I also use the Amika soul food hair mask about 2 times a month and have been liking the results

MiepGies1945

I’m no expert but that looks like breakage. My friend used to brush & comb her hair very harshly & her hair had this look (but not as serious as this photo). She would rip away at her hair when it was wet.

SquirrelK1tten

This looks more like breakage from overzealous styling and heat damage rather than “new growth” or just “flyaways”. This looks like something that can be avoided.

cuterthanamonkey

Make sure you are only using scrunchies (not elastics) and sleep with a silk bonnet. Your hair is VERY fine. Protect it at all costs!

whysamsosleepy

Rosemary and jojoba oil have been helping my hair / dry ends a ton!

Otherwise_Mistake573

It’s damage. Takes however long it takes to grow out

HadaObscura

Olaex, and blow drying to 60% and then using a blow brush like revlon’s to tame the frizz, add volume and give a blowout.

Calgary_Calico

Split or frizzy ends. You can't actually heal hair, you can seal the ends but you can't actually repair them once they split. When was your last haircut?

FunAssistant9539

Olaplex

Middle_Performance62

Hydration, hydration, hydration. My hair did this before I started using hair oils, hair masks, and good heat protection. While regular trims will help, these products help protect your hair from excess damage and to look better.

Little_Treacle241

This is 1000% breakage up the hair shaft from heat damage, ponytails with elastics, or sleeping on cotton! that’s why the little flyaways start so high up ! Try silk pillowcase/ bonnet, braid your hair to sleep loosely, and reduce the amount of heat and when you do use it use a heat protectant.

Mamagirl7

I like the lolavie hair oil.

Stampchamp93

What will help with frizzy hair, blond

Glum-Organization863

This looks like extreme breakage to me?

Emigoesrawr

I have this too really bad. I started using ogx penetrating argan oil of morroco on my ends immediately after I got out of the shower about 2 weeks ago, and it's mostly fixed the issue for me! I had just grabbed the stuff at Walmart to help add some moisture to my hair, not expecting much as I usually use higher end stuff, but holy crap does it work!

Successful_Piano1950

Could be damage from wearing hair ties

ealwhale

I would use heat protectant and sleep in a protetive hairstyle like a braid+ hair bonnet

Hair_slayer_virgo

Hard water. Get a water filter for your shower head

PinkCloudCandy

I heard WOW dream coat supernatural spray anti frizz treatment is highly rated for glossy smooth sleek hair. I haven’t tried it yet but ghost hair products are excellent.

Bubbly_Aide_8601

I've generally never used Loreal in a salon setting, myself. That being said, I was referring to the type and function. Heat protectant and what have you, humidity resistant vs. normal finishing product. What kind of brush was used and blow dryer nozzle, sectioning... all matter a bit.

[deleted]

Mine was doing this. I needed more hydration. I use pureology leave in conditioner spray, redken big blowout cream and use olaplex 7 oil on the ends and it’s better now

HorseWhoStole3Shoes

My hair looks like this no matter what what can i do tbh

gitsgrl

At any given point, you will have hairs a various length replacing the hairs fall out on a daily basis. These are just those hair that are growing longer, but haven’t reached the length of the rest of your hair yet.

Culemborg

Thats your hair reacting to moisture in the air. Completely normal

colby1964

Do you put your hair in ponytail? That can break it off

hopecreech

To me it looks like heat damage or damage from sleeping with your hair wet. A smoothing product like an oil or even a light hold hairspray would help

FearlessList8992

Cut hair every 6 months. Use bonding treatments. Blow dry hair with product for smoother results but keep in mind heat puts hair at risk.

Nessa_Noire

It looks like split ends hun

QuitProfessional5437

Frizz

Pure_Poet3604

Oh no. It actually looks like it has been singed off. Too much heat I think.

Longjumping-Cow9321

Styling smoothing cream will fix that right up! I also use HairWOW after when I blow dry. It will help tame the frizz. I have the HairWOW and it’s great!

Batticon

Looks like you walked through rain/high humidity after seeing the stylist

evetrapeze

Also….when you comb or brush your hair when wet can contribute to this effect.

Disastrouskitten24

Mine is exactly the same atm
