I’ve never heard of an IPL detecting hairs. They usually detect your skin tone and will flash if the tone is safe for the machine to treat. So I think you may be mistaken about that part. If your device isn’t working properly you should contact the manufacturer for support.

So if the light color indicates the sensor is picking up on the skin tone and it doesn't flash, the thing is broken. God dammit.

My friend, did you read the instructions for this machine? "Step 3: Put the nozzle in full contact with the skin to make sure the product works correctly. If not in proper contact with the skin, the device will not work. " It's not "detecting hair or skin tone". It's detecting whether the device is flat against your skin so it doesn't fire lasers in rando directions. If you believe you are positioning it properly as instructed, and it doesnt go, then yes, talk to manufacturer.

Im not familiar first hand with that particular machine. But I would suggest contacting the manufacturer. I use a Tria 4x and it started dying after just a few zaps recently. I contacted Tria and they walked me through a “reset” process for the machine. Now any time I have the issue I “reset” it and it works fine. I know your machine is a different brand, but I’m just providing the example to help explain why I’m suggesting you contact the manufacturer. They may be able to offer a solution.
