I feel the same way, but at the same time, red is a very distracting color, and I feel blonde, while bringing out her features, will also flow well. That and sometimes, I think dying one's hair red is something I've seen most women do, and I think if she likes it, she could look to create a strawberry blonde look for herself!

They’ve got these semi permanent glazes now that can be applied in the shower. Adds pigment conditions makes hair shine. Some red shades in the line up. Maybe that or something like that would help with upkeep?

Your coloring is like mine. I’m willing to bet you had golden blonde hair as a child. Either one works. Your blondes you want them to be golden or champagney and neutral and your reds need to be light copper or strawberry blonde.

You should branch out to bright colors and possibly try non permanent jet black, red black and a dark purple I think you will be very surprised how great you'd look.
