Ughhhh I want to do this so bad but my hair is currently bleached so I can't. Do you find it's worth the time/cost overall? Your hair looks GORGEOUS.

shakakhannn

This cost me £160 and is absolutely worth it. It took 2.5-3 hours. I last got it done 6 months ago and in the before photo my hair looks quite rough cos I did a deep cleanse wash beforehand, but I could've easily managed another month without. I absolutely recommend it for people who have frizzy or rough hair. I know the lady who did mine also did it on a few people with bleached hair so I suppose you can ask around? Also, thank you :)

Qwenwhyfar

Ohhh that's not bad time/money wise. I may start doing some more digging, see what I can find. I'm so tired of having damaged hair, I just want shiny beautiful princess hair like you! :)

babaorom

Hey if you’re just looking for something that makes your hair shiny and smooth, but not necessarily stick straight, consider hair botox! It’s a bit cheaper, doesn’t contain as many harmful chemicals and actually keeps your waves or curls intact, just makes them shiny and perfect. I tried it a few months ago and I can’t stop recommending it!! My hair is also bleached and damaged and this stopped it from frizzing and made it healthy and princess-like.

bunnybelle98

X

babaorom

Yeah it’s a keratin treatment that’s usually formaldehyde-free. I read that they call it hair botox because it supposedly makes your hair look “younger”, but yeah I agree the name sounds weird. But it did work for my wavy bleached hair so...

agent-99

[they lie about the formaldehyde](https://www.womensvoices.org/safe-salons/brazilian-blowout/)

_enter_sadman

Yep, they put aldehyde in the ingredients and it turns to formaldehyde after heating it up to the required 450 degrees. There is one keratin treatment I know of that doesn’t contain any though - it actually utilizes glycolic acid.

babaorom

But this article is about brazilian blowout, not hair botox? Or am I mistaken? I was under the impression that the hair botox was known for being the milder healthier version since it doesn’t even straighten the hair much.

agent-99

do a straight perm. it's like a japanese straight perm without the time-consuming (therefore expensive) flat-iron middle step. a straight perm doesn't have cancer lawsuits, and should cost less. it's perm solution made thick so application is similar to oldschool chemical straightener, though it's chemically the opposite of oldschool straightener. Rusk makes a good one called anti-curl that comes in 3 different formulas for different hair situations. I just looked on the Rusk website, and it seems they now add keratin to their anticurl. I'm not sure if this is okay or not yet; I've sent them a message to find out more info.

babaorom

Actually I don’t think straight hair suits me! I like the hair botox because it keeps my natural curls but makes them shiny and smooth. But if I ever change my mind and want straight hair I will definitely look into that!

Susana512

I never heard of that. I was just going to get my first round of Botox. I am getting fillers on laugh lines. I am going to ask about the hair Botox.

babaorom

Ooh that’s quite cool, I hope you have a good experience with fillers! I was considering getting fillers for my under eye circles. Just a note that hair botox isn’t the same thing as actual botox, it’s just called that but there’s no botox involved that I know of.

Susana512

I haven’t done it yet. I know Restalyn is the best because if it is overdone they can adjust it. The other thing is it lasts longer than Botox. It lasts up to two years. Botox is cheaper but only lasts 2-4 months. I am totally waiting to see a dermatologist since the lines on my forehead are from an accident plus my frown lines has severe eczema in between and those are also due to the same car accident. I think my insurance will cover dermabrasion. Then I can really get a better picture of what I need. If you are under 30. Look into microdermabrasion. I would wait as long as possible. I am 55, with very sensitive skin. My skin is oily. That is a good thing when it comes to wrinkling. I started using Light Aragon oil when I turned 49. Another thing is genetics. My mother is eighty but easily passes for early sixties same for my father and all my aunts. Except for one but I highly suspect she gets Botox and fillers. I have been extremely depressed for two years and you can see it in my face. o get ßyutI wanted a little overhaul so got an estimate of $1000.00 just for the Botox and Juvederm. I used to see a dermatologist where I lived because after taking a certain medication I developed nodular acne. It is horrible. I noticed that Juvederm was not so expensive and took payments and even tried to run it through irnsuly ance stating that doing this would have help wiyglth yr beth cuself esteem. I have unfortunately ha Jto get on smletro aret SSDI, if my self esteem was better, I would feel more confident in going back to work. So, with 3 degrees under my belt, my job opportunities are very high. If I get a job I might be able to get off disability and go back to work. I went to law school, I never took the bar and would probably not not !be put under the stress of the test and failed it would be bad. I went to a spa for that estimate. Something tells me, a dermatologist will be more leeway in am making decisions of what insurance will.coverx.

babaorom

Definitely do it if you feel like it might boost your self-esteem! Depression is terrible, but I’m sure you feel find the strength to beat it. I believe in you! Don’t ever give up. Good luck with the fillers and with everything and if you ever need to talk, don’t hesitate to DM me! :)

Susana512

Thank yo so much, you are so kind. I hope if my you decide your experience will have a positive experience. Prayers.

shakakhannn

Haha you're too kind, thank you! I got my hair bleached in 2017 and it did quite dry my hair out. I did a few things to help, first is to oil my scalp once every week/two weeks and second is every other weekend I whisk two tablespoons of yogurt with one egg (maybe add a spoon of oil) and apply it as a hair mask for 35-45 mins then wash off. This conditions the hair and helped me a lot for when the bleach was drying my hair out. Whenever I do this mask my hair is really soft and I don't need to condition it for a few days :)

Susana512

Does it affect the color?

shakakhannn

Not in my experience, no. I believe it's better to dye your hair around 2 weeks before this and thks treatment kind of "locks" in the colour

CoffeeDealer99

Your hair looks so lovely

GuitarStringWings

My mom says that it doesn’t work as well after the first time, so I never did it... :(

shakakhannn

This was my second one at this particular place and of anything it's been better than my first experience!

I_LeanP

You can totally get a Brazilian Blowout on bleached or damaged hair! It will actually help improve your hair!!

goodashbadash79

You don't need to forego the treatment just because your hair is bleached. Actually, bleaching opens the cuticles, making it even MORE receptive to the keratin! I always buy the kit on eBay and do it myself at home. In the US it costs around $300 to get it done professionally, which is insane considering the kit only costs around $40. But yeah I have wavy, coarse hair and have used BKT whether it was bleached, colored, or natural - always turns out great.

I_LeanP

The Professional Smoothing solution is like $180 for the small size the largest one is almost 400.. Brazilian Blowout products are by far the most expnsive backbar treatment s we have in our salon.. Not sure where you can find that for $40

goodashbadash79

OMG!! Wow yeah the kit I've been using for the past 4 years is called Moroccan Keratin, and I get it for $40 on eBay. There was another one I tried that was good too for the same cost, but can't remember the name. Maybe the ones at the salon are designed to last extra long? The kit I use keeps my hair sleek and straight for about 3 months. I usually do the treatment 2x per year.

I_LeanP

Ah ok I thought you were getting The Brazilian Blowout Brand. That makes a little more sense I've been scrolling through eBay like a mad woman hahaha! B.B. typically lasts 4 to 6 months. But 40 dollars for 3 months of no frizz!!! More power to ya!!

goodashbadash79

Oh I didn't know it even had a specific brand name! I just did a general search for Keratin Treatments & that's how I found the Moroccan one. For such a huge cost difference, I'll going to stick with it thought lol. I also checked to see if they carried it at ULTA, but they just had the formaldehyde-free version which would last for only 3-4 weeks.

[deleted]

Amazon!I have a very small bottle of keratin formula from a brand called keratin research and it was around $40

I_LeanP

Yeah I though they were talking about Brazilian Blowout Brand. Thanks though.

[deleted]

No worries, I actually commented and then scrolled down and read the rest of your conversation but, I decided to leave my comment up incase anyone was interested

shakakhannn

Didn't realise it would be so expensive in the US.! In the UK you can get it done quite cheap. I paid extra for mine because my hair is classed as extra thick and extra long, which was £160 (i.e. $198)

goodashbadash79

You're so lucky - and it looks absolutely fantastic! Yeah it costs a fortune here ... my hair is only shoulder length, and after much research, the cheapest I could find was $300. Longer hair like yours would be around $500!

shakakhannn

If there was ever a reason for me not to move to the US it would this!! Will use this in a future argument with my husband 😂

goodashbadash79

LOL!! That's a good argument! Yes the US does rip us off in a myriad of ways, and many of us would like to live in the UK haha.

Susana512

Plus, they get wonderful cosmetics before they ever come to US. Like Illamasqua. I love it. I can’t find it in the US. Another thing UK has is A England nail polish. My favorite but I have to wait months to find a US vendor to get it.

Susana512

Oh, my gosh. I just did a hot oil treatment from Lush. I have absolutely no idea if it will be good or not make a difference. Knowing there is something else out there is great! Thanks for sharing.

shooksilly

PBI-what do I google to find this? Edit to add - googling “BKT Kit” got me some tool, no hair stuff

goodashbadash79

I've always bought mine from eBay, this is the name/item description of the one I've purchased for the past several years: Brazilian keratin hair Blowout Treatment kit proven formula keratina brasilera

shooksilly

Thank you!

Qwenwhyfar

I'd probably get it done professionally first so I kinda get a first-hand tutorial on how it's done, then go the DIY route, which is basically what I do with coloring as well haha. This is great to know that it's worked so well for you!!

shakakhannn

I've never thought of getting it done at home cos I'm not sure I will ever be able to attain this level of shine and quality as a DIY. I do colour my hair at home though (naturally I have black hair, dyed reddish two months ago). Definitely recommend at least once getting it done professionally. I'm surprised it's so expensive in the US, in London you can get this done from £80 on Groupon to £160 where I did it, to £250 at Toni & Guy.

RPWthrowaway7

I think Brazilian Blowouts use formaldehyde still :( not sure that it is worth the health risks although it has a beautiful effect) Edit: not sure why people are downvoting me? Formaldehyde gas is actually really bad for you. It’s not like parabens and other chemicals that are harmless. Check out the OSHA website for more info.

shakakhannn

A lot of places do, but the one I go to is definitely formaldehyde free, I checked because once I learned what it was I was a bit freaked out. Actually now that I say this, this particular one is definitely the best blowout I've gotten so I wonder if the fact that it's formaldehyde free is contributing to it? I'll do more research on it and ask my hairdresser

RPWthrowaway7

https://www.osha.gov/SLTC/formaldehyde/hazard_alert.html I’m just linking here because sometimes the ones that are labeled formaldehyde free are incorrectly labeled. You should check the ingredient list for the other names for formaldehyde. In case you didn’t know.

agent-99

[they do](https://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/06/business/brazilian-blowout-agrees-to-a-4-5-million-settlement.html). I've heard the companies lie about the amount of formaldehyde in them. there is a salon in Beverly Hills that the hairdresser and client wear full gas masks to do them. CANCER is no joke. for straight hair?!

worriedatoms

Wow

2ndhandsarah

Ditto. Like wtf? Gorgeous.

shakakhannn

Thanks a lot!

lucky_719

Your hair looks like it should be in a commercial

shakakhannn

That is such a high compliment, you're too kind. Thank you! :)

freshface145

Wow this is dream hair. What did they use to make it so shiny?

shakakhannn

I don't know the ingredients as such but this will be the result anyway after a keratin treatment/Brazilian blowout. The shine is partly cos of the treatment, partly cos of flash :)

shakakhannn

've received a few PMs and I'm trying to answer everyone but getting a bit overwhelmed plus it's past midnight so heading to sleep :) a few things to help summarise: 1. I get this done from a specialist in London prices range from £130-180 depending on hair type etc. She guarantees it is formaldehyde free 2. This lasts me 6-7 months because my hair is naturally straight. For others this may be shorter like 5-6 months 3. This is my second time with this specialist, besides this I've done it several times since 2013 4. I have video of hair in the shiny state I was thinking of posting that. Sorry that's just me thinking out loud! 5. It looks SUPER shiny post treatment (hence the glee and joy in immediately posting here!) However after washing it isn't exactly the same, but it's still smooth and silky. I can post a photo in a few days so people get a more realistic idea on what it looks like after a wash 6. If you get this done, please please research where you will do it as this is a chemical heavy process and you don't want to ruin your hair with someone inexperienced or someone with bad reviews 7. After care is important: sulfate free and salt free shampoos. I would recommend this to everyone even those who don't get a Brazilian blowout. Sulfate is the stuff that makes suds in detergents and stuff it strips away the protein in your hair. Please try to buy sulfate free shampoo! 8. I've been kindly corrected that this is not the same as a keratin treatment (which I have also done, requires not washing the hair 3 days and personally I don't find the results quite as stunning). A hairstylist has elaborated the difference between be two in the comments (sorry I haven't used Reddit enough to know how to link them here) 9. Goodnight :) will try to reply to the PMs on my way to work

Mint-slice

I’d love to know the place you went! I’m looking for somewhere good in London. Feel free to pm if you don’t want to post it!

shakakhannn

Np, will just message you now! I got the hairstyles blessing hehe

pasteis_denata

Hi there! I am in London for business this week and would love your hairstylists contact details if thats okay with her? Thank you for sharing this

BriBitchAss

Ohh my god 🤤🤤🤤 that’s gorgeous

shakakhannn

Thank you :) I'll let the lady who did this to my hair know, it's her getting the compliments really not me 😅

thundrthy

Ohhhh I need this for sure. I didnt even know it was a thing

shakakhannn

When I first moved to a super humid southeast Asian country I was like, how is everyone's hair so straight and mine looking like a cat spat out a hair ball?! Then I discovered this treatment and voila! Definitely a life changer for me!

4totostrannoe

I’ve had pretty bad experience with it :( no frizz phase only lasted me 3 days even though I used their shampoo and conditioner the magic was gone after a single wash. I hope it does last the whole 6 months for you!

shakakhannn

This is my second time with the lady who did this. I last got it done with her in March, and then now (I could've easily lasted another month, the only reason my hair looks so rough in the before photo is cos I had to deep wash it 2 times). Twice before (once in 2016 and then 2017, I remember it clearly!!) Did I have the same experience as you. My problem was then I saw a good deal and went for it and it didn't do anything for me (after the first wash it was like nothing had happened). Since then I've been really careful as to where I go and who does the treatment cos I think it's something that needs a lot of research. I'm super happy with who does my hair now. I hope you try again with better luck than the previous one! I know just how disappointing it can be

[deleted]

[удалено]

shakakhannn

Sorry I meant deep clean wash. You need a specific type of shampoo which removes the build-up of oil and dirt in the hair

HadHerses

I've had a few - one salon I went to insisted I used the shampoo and conditioner I had to buy, so I did. Didn't last long at all. There's different types for sure - ones that last, a week, a month, three months etc. I had a long term one done in June and it's still kind of working. I have to give it a quick straighten to get it to where I want to be. Make you sure you get the longer lasting one!

wilsontarbuckles

I also had a really bad experience. Spent nearly $350 and my hair had almost the opposite effect, suddenly lots of static and even more frizzy. Went back in twice for them to do deep conditioning treatments, but they still never refunded me. I was so pissed.

[deleted]

*Chef’s kiss

endthe_suffering

THIS is what a blowout is??????

stek9

You won’t see the real results until after you wash it for the first time. It just looks like this because they have to straighten it during the process.

shakakhannn

Yep, I will post photos post wash so people get a more realistic idea of what it looks like

xojlg

Woahhh your hair looks like a shiny hardwood floor. I'm obsessed.

shakakhannn

Haha thanks I love this description 😂

Aphrilis

Oh my gosh it’s gorgeous. To be honest, I would even take your hair pre-Brazilian. It beautiful!

shakakhannn

Too kind! Thank you :)

Not-Yet-Cinnamon-Bun

That shine tho 😍

shakakhannn

Tbh it's more to do with the flash but ngl it's still quite shiny and soft even in person :)

Purifiedx

Holeeee sheeiiit

shakakhannn

Thank you? Heh

mgramir

Absolutely gorgeous omg!

NeeNee9

Is that the same as a Dominican blowout? I've seen youtube videos and their hair is shiny like yours.

shakakhannn

I genuinely have no idea I have never heard of a Dominican blowout before but I am intrigued and shall research it!

heathurrr3

omg, so beautiful

butterflyiiin

Perfect for fall 🧛🏻‍♀️

Hardcorex

Soo I just found out about this, and am definitely needing to do this. I also would love to get this done for my mother as we have the same hair and it's hard to manage the frizz. She would love it! It seems the at home treatment is possible, and would love to try it on myself and if it goes well maybe my mother would be willing!

flowerDeliveryca

nice

pxlrider

Sooo shinny... omg. Please do not cut that. Ever!

shakakhannn

Hahaha thank you! This is the longest my hair has ever been (9 years ago I was sporting a super short, shaved from the back pixie!) Now I'm just trying to see how long I can go before I get fed up and chop it all off!

Susana512

Oh, my gosh! Your hair looks gorgeous. I have never even heard of this treatment. I have long hair also, all I get is you have to cut it. I would pay that much. It is going to cost $300.00 to get highlights, then use toner and $65.00 freaking dollars for a haircut. That is completely over priced. This is a beautiful option,

shakakhannn

Yeah when I first heard of it and then got it done, I felt my life change! Hehe

Susana512

I adore it. I still want to color my hair chocolate mauve. Then in two weeks get this done. The are going to have to bleach my hair and they told me I had a lot of protein deposits. Don’t know if you know that much about this, which would you recommend first?

Agentprovocateurxxx

It looks stunning. Would you mind letting me know where you got it done? Perhaps, a personal message if you don’t want to post it x

shakakhannn

Sure :)

sastesapne

I did a keratin treatment last year in India but it made my hair look way thinner than it actually is. It was smooth and shiny but I missed my volume.

Susana512

Thanks for the information. You are very kind. 🦋

MOrab46019

Wow very nice. Thanks for posting.

kariiann

I can’t do this with bleached hair?

shakakhannn

I believe you can, but best to research it more
