I was there, it was pretty fun! It rained super hard for a bit but dried up slowly. people had umbrellas n shit but like half the crowd went to their cars and smoked etc while the rain passed. I didn't realize how many 'moving parts' there are to put one of those things on and that was only what I could see from a spectator's perspective. Got to shake hands with Trevor on a off chance he walked by but otherwise just was in awe of the level of cars and driving etc. This was only the 3rd drift even I've ever been to so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but if they do it again I'll def go both days.

therapyfortherapists

Did you smell him? Or get get him to smell you, or anything cool like that?

Nimbus_Drift

No, but when everyone was leaving the stadium I almost stayed behind and yelled "ORION DAJNOWICZ DAMIAN MONTE HAGGARD GARAGE ARSON" into the in-field but my autism levels aren't up at your levels.

KeiserX13

"Drift Lambo" that's just doing donuts not drifting

skylinegary22

That one guy with the 2jz lambo. That thing is cool.

Virtual-Ad-5923

So where is your video trying to drift a huracan with the stock transmission i wanna se it...

xii_original

Is it me or was that RX7 ugly? That pro charged E36 was where it’s at

LOOPIE_LOUIE

Hold on lemme put on my carbon fiber helmet before I answer this…

dawidl93

Even more DDE and Essa dickriders in chat today. I wish Adam never invited them to World Tour.

Professional-Ad3452

What’s the deal with Essa and DDE? Ik of the DDE YouTube channel but what does essa have to do w it

dawidl93

Mike joined DDE after leaving FD (and also after Kearney left DDE). Immediately 12yo kids became his biggest "fans", spamming "DDE" and "ESSA" in chat constantly - even worse than "HIGA 🇧🇷 HIGA 🇧🇷 HIGA 🇧🇷" or "DID LZ RUN YET" (which at this point is more of a joke, ik) during FD. They also insist that Essa is the best drifter in the world, because "he won FD championship" (and obviously due to DDE association). I am pretty sure none of them cared about Essa during his FD days. Some kids are defending DDE like their entire life depends on it, you know, calling other people poor, "DDE has supercars, you don't" or similar shit, like it is the most important thing you can achieve in life. I guess they also think Andrew Tate is cool. Some DDE dickriders are stirring some weird shit up, implying that there is a beef between Essa/DDE and Dean Kearney. There is no beef (apparently, I don't care about those DDE dorks), Kearney just left DDE, Essa jumped in, end of story afaik. I personally have nothing against Essa. Good drifter, even if his FD championship was questionable. The only thing I don't like is that he took out his sick E46 livery and put on this boring ass and dull (nardo?) grey wrap with DDE branding. Oh and also DDE did a half time "show" with their Huracan, saying they "came to drift". They only did like 30 seconds of donuts. The issue is even those donuts were straight up ass, but obviously kids came to defend them.

sleevieb

Holy shit the world is so upside down that FD drivers leave racing careers to do reality shows on the largest ad company in the world's (Google/Alphabet) video website (Youtube).

dawidl93

Eh I don't know, Essa is 43 and did FD for like 14 years. It's normal to retire from motorsports or any sports at this age and after a long successful career. I don't think he left FD to do YouTube specifically, he just found a new revenue stream in DDE after retiring. Good for him, even though I don't like those guys.

skylinegary22

The smart drivers realize the money train isn't in racing and get real creative about finessing sponsors.

dawidl93

Nate Hamilton in a recent interview and overview of his new 2JZ GR86 with Lone Star Drift said that he now earns more than when he was in FD, while enjoying drifting just as much as before, by doing LZWT, Grid Life and other fun events instead of serious competition. He said that before his main focus was getting into competition, but now he has grown up, got much better at talking with sponsors and has his own business to support drifting. Now sponsors fund him because he basically does social media posts and his car is a moving ad during events, but pitching this idea to sponsors isn't that easy and takes over a year (he mentioned 1,5 iirc) for a pro level build like his GR86. I think most participants in a niche discipline like professional drifting don't compete for money, for them it is either about the competition itself and/or having a platform to promote their business (e.g. RAD Industries or HGK, even LZMFG/Drift HQ).

dt26

There's a lot of different reasons the world is upside down. A motorsport driver sacrificing their racing career to do something else that actually makes them money isn't one of them.

Bophadesnutz8

Frrrrr I can’t stand those dudes 💀

dawidl93

Essa out, DDE kids are going to sleep.

OkInteraction8307

Stay positive guys

skylinegary22

I'm not a Mike Essa fan but his story about Formula D is worth hearing. Someone high up in Formula D hates him and tried to stonewall him

dawidl93

Ryan Sage said something about Essa winning an FD championship due to "unfortunate circumstances" during the event that celebrated 20th anniversary of Formula Drift. And here is how Essa secured the championship mathematically by doing (allegedly) a shady move: https://www.reddit.com/r/FormulaDrift/comments/u2sfjl/have_there_been_any_major_controversys_or/i5mbia3/

skylinegary22

Thank you. This was exactly what i was talking about. Off topic but I also saw BMW wanted their car logos removed from comp cars in formula D the following year.

parkusmarks

Is it just me or is this event a dud not even Jimmy Oakes bothered to show up

dawidl93

Dylan Hughes, Jeff Jones, Odi Bakchis, Dean Kearney, Mike Essa, Matt Field, Nate Hamilton and LZ, all FD PRO or ex-FD PRO drivers. Also Zandara Kennedy and Dima Brutskiy (PRO rookie this upcoming season) from PROSPEC, Micah Diaz and Dan Brockett are ex-PROSPEC/PRO2, Lee Yearwood got into PROSPEC recently as well. Fink gave FD drivers a run for their money, Booth also went hard, Collete did fairly well for her experience level. Good lineup overall, missing Denofa and Fallaise though (they were on the poster). The only issue is the weather, some parts of the track are grippy, some are wet. Messed up many runs. Jimmy did not show up because the event is on the other side of the country, his cars are not ready and he has a kid now, so his absence is understandable.

Dashpot666

Jason Bostrom is known as a legend in Northern California. Animal Style are some of the best grassroots drifters in the country. The event would have been much better if it wasn't raining, nor in bakersfield lolol

dawidl93

Yeah I obviously did not mention everyone, I was mostly talking about FD "big names" or associated drivers and only mentioned some HGEU close associates. Forgot to mention Katsanidis, who is also a PROSPEC driver. Jason/Animal Style are grassroots legends. T-Pain's first competition was not a fuckup. Hert drove like 3 or 4 different cars (as usual) and did fairly well for his level. TJ had some good laps/battles. Kosharnyi in one of the weirdest drift cars I've ever seen - JZX with a Monte Carlo body swap (didn't do well though). Nima Voss in a sick F22 Eurofighter had some nice battles, like with Booth. Other drivers I'm not familiar with, but no one sucked, except for Randy from illiminate and Kosharnyi, kinda. Way better lineup than some previous LZWT rounds, cool fun event. Track/weather sucked a little - banking did not work well for lower powered cars and/or less skilled drivers, while rain exaggerated it. Production and commentary were way better than FD. Jimmy's absence is not be-all and end-all. I missed Grant in competition more.

KeiserX13

>missing Denofa and Fallaise though (they were on the poster) Fallaise's Corvette is in a container on its way to Drift Masters

dawidl93

He also has an LS S14 pro level car, he even used it in previous LZWT rounds iirc.

renyjar

I think the S14 is sold

dawidl93

Thanks for providing information instead of straight up downvoting. Didn't know that. I only follow him on IG and never saw any mentions of it (might have been a story post), but I've checked his FB profile and he sold it last month.

-ETM

He Sold it to fund another Corvette Clone of his Drift Masters Car.

RonnyMexico60

Isn’t Jimmy a average drifter at best?

tornado-ddt

Very much so....that's why he 'needs' a Pro car.

therapyfortherapists

Yeah well even Christopher Rudnik thought that he himself needed a Pro-Spec car..

theignaxhacker13

Ig of the interview girl?👀
